PS 3 Finally (probably) Hacked to run “backup” games!

Well, there you go. Some guys managed to do it! Finally there is a solution to play “backup” games on PS3. This is not usual modchip method but, instead it’s just “plug and play” called PSjailbreak. You put in prepared USB stick which greets you with GUI and then select game to play. Simple as that! Compatible with older PS3 and Slim models. Read source links for more info.

And the first people to buy one of these will be Sony to find out how its been done, quickly followed up by a firmware update to stop it…..

The Internet updates to firmware has made mods like this useless…

Damn I just get in, sit down and come here and see this. Ps3scene is overloaded, can’t read about it. Weird yesterday TEAM JUNGLE who did the xbox360 drive hacks announces to work on ps3, and now today we hear this, and this isn’t even from teamjungle it doesn’t appear, whatever it even is.. can’t get on ps3scene yet.

    This is cool news…….

But does anyone know of an Xbox 360 tool that is kinda similar to this one at all being you do not have to open up your system and do all that tricky stuff to it??

It’s a softmod, and NO HACKERS/CODERS, no legit one’s anyhow, have EVER, EVER charged people for a softmod. This is NOT a modchip, it’s a piece of code on a $5 usb stick, their charging like $180.00 for. If this is real, you can damn well bet real hackers will figure out what’s on that usb stick, and reverse engineer it, and post the code for free.

  19. 9inchnail
    August 19th, 2010 | 21:02

The software alone won’t help you, it’s already available online. You need the stick, it has a chip built in. I’m not saying there won’t be compatible sticks that can be flashed and then used to jailbreak the PS3 but right now you do need the stick they’re selling.

So let me get this straight….A simple “piece of code” on a USB stick is all it takes to jailbreak a PS3?

when sony designed the ps3 they had copyrite fraud in mind. these guys are still way off in “hacking” the ps3. the peice of code that has been produced to bypass has taken over 4 years. and as mentioned above this peice of code WILL get and update fix from sony as soon as mass production of this key is available.
The question i put to you is will all modded ps3 that receive this update get banned from online use just like their rivals xbox.

Consoles are rarely cracked primarily for pirated games, only a few of them were. Mostly they are cracked in order to run Linux or for other stuff, pirated games are just a by-product of that. Since \Other OS\ option was there for some 3 years, Enthusiasts never had a reason to crack it… until now.

The PS Jailbreak is the world’s first PS3 mod chip, it’s a small USB device that plugs into the front of your PS3 console that will then un-lock your console to be able to play un-signed homebrew applications and allow you to make backups of your original games onto your hard drive. The device will be totally firmware upgradeable and supports all models of the PS3 console in the market currently. It boasts an update blocker to prevent any future updates interfering with the device and the markers have supplied the first piece of homebrew software for the PS3 which is their easy to use backup manager software. It’s a totally Solderless PS3 mod chip device and does not require the user to open their console for installation, this means not having to void your consoles warranty to install or use it. The PS Jailbreak will extend the life of your console by allowing the user to not use their discs as much and opens the doors to tons of 3rd party applications and possibly even ports of existing software for PC could be made to be used on the PS3 while using the PS Jailbreak.

    well I guess I’ll go buy a PS3 now ;)

  29. Nope
    August 19th, 2010 | 22:55

It’s true but at the same time you won’t get anything out of the hack – the system emulates a debug version of the PS3 console which is easily fixed by a mandatory update from Sony.

Which they can embed in future games too or revoke keys.

  31. @NOPE
    August 19th, 2010 | 23:28

they have inc a update blocker to preventing sony updating. in the mean time dont use new games yet, simple, there will be a work around, just like a jtag xbox where you remove the system update folder to prevent accidental updates apparently theres already clones on the way (within 2 weeks) that will be cheaper. let the new era of ps3 RISE!

this is awesome news but the only drawback is the price………£93 daylight robbery plus an external hard drive 2 store all the games cause the ps3′s will get full very quickly and it will be £150 – £200 toooo expensive

  38. awesome
    August 20th, 2010 | 02:43

while this would be pretty awesome in reality it costs a hella lot of money to develop games if everyones just downloads & copies them sony loses money & in return less games get made which will kill of the system like it didi ps1 & like its down with x-box & why the 360 has crap games now compared to ps3.

  39. Smeggit
    August 20th, 2010 | 02:53

It’s probably a marketing ploy by Sony, they’ll get a bunch of PS3 sales then put out the patch to fix it.

  40. shadowlord
    August 20th, 2010 | 02:54

I agree. I’ve had an x360 for years, and just bought finally a slimline PS3, and PS3 is honestly better.
    1) No charging for online playing
    2) Plays any video you throw at it without having to re-encode it.
    3) Graphic’s are noticably better on PS3, and honestly better versions of the same games as on x360.
    4) Much more functionality then x360 has over all.

    @21: Not!
Remember the superwildcard for SNES? I don’t think anyone ever ported linux or any other OS to that. The only use was to play backups and homebrew games…. I still have mine and it still works… can copy a cartridge to floppy disc, then play from floppy, or plug a cable to your printer port on your pc and use that to serve the games that you either copied from floppy back to your pc, or of course downloaded from your favirote console BBS… (or these days grabbed a torrent with every SNES game ever).

And one of the reasons I modded my xbox back in the olden days was to be able to play DVDs… DVD players were still expensive, and microsoft required you buy their remote to play DVDs… modding it me to play them using the regular controller…. not to mention xlink, I used to play forza on that quite a bit… (for those too young to remember, xlink kai let you play games thru the net in lan mode without an xbox live subscription)

  44. RU
    August 20th, 2010 | 06:56

PS3 is better. No red ring of death and you can upgrade the internal hard drive by just formatting and replacing it. No special bullchit formatting encryption required. Plus it does HD audio no problem where the the Xbox requires re-encoding streaming content.

  45. a7mag3ddon
    August 20th, 2010 | 08:21

Of course the other thing to remember is that whilst the device will avoid updates which is great, the games may not. Like on the PSP a time will come where the game will insist of having the latest firmware or it wont run.

  46. jaar
    August 20th, 2010 | 08:47

@45 and the other thing to remember is that jailbreak is also upgreadable, we have to wait to see that

  47. SaulFinbo
    August 20th, 2010 | 09:15

    @ 40 shadowlord
The only comment thats correct is playing games on-line for free.
    I have a moded 360 a PS3 and a Wii with USB loader.
A PS3 will not play any video you throw at it! I have plenty of avi’s listed on this site that don’t play audio and/or video on a PS3 and the same goes for the 360.
Next is the games, Xbox 360 games look and play better than PS3 versions FACT… I have over 50 titles for each console including GTA, FF XIII, and Dragonball blast and all look better on Xbox360. Most PS3 games 90% only run in 720p where as most 360 games 90% run 1080p and you can notice a huge difference. I’m not a typical Xbox fan but if I hadn’t bought a PS3 first I would never have bought one after seeing the difference. The only thing I always use my PS3 for is watching Blurays for obvious reasons.
Sorry for the rant but I hate it when people say things that are just not true.

  48. Nate
    August 20th, 2010 | 10:26

awesome…. is it for real working??

  49. horsemeat
    August 20th, 2010 | 13:53

On the PSP the games could be modded to not require firmware updates (if it didn’t use the new features).

Anyway if it can run unsigned code, then what it stopping this exploit from opening another exploit to boot a firmware from a memory stick?

Even if not then the new firmware features can be emulated or run native, and the firmware version be duped…

The only thing that bothers me is this hack only support firmware 3.41 which removes otheros. Until someone finds a way of putting otheros back in it’s still a :( for me, but then again unsigned code + linux = fully unlocked hardware no? :D even better than otheros.

I’ve downloaded the file the FiReBiT put up, and it’s just the backup manager file. From the looks of all the videos and documentions that are out, you will still need that USB Dongle to play the games.

  61. limp
    September 9th, 2010 | 23:53

hi is there anyway not to use a USB dongle and just use my USB Pendrive? and another thing is there another version for the 3.42 firmware because i already updated the firmware.

  62. sandy
    September 13th, 2010 | 01:06

im getting somewhere with this now, i formatted an old crucial 64MB flash stick to fat32 and made it have a boot sector and put the backup manager file on it. then i tested it in the ps3 but the ps3 when powered on with the usb stik attempts to read it on boot but fails and runs the OS from the hard drive.

the bootable stik format is DOS based since its been made bootable in windows. im guessing the ps3 doesnt boot like that. so i on the modchip usb stick that u buy there is a hidden boot sector that holds the correct boot code to allow the ps3 to boot from the usb stik and run backup manager.

problem i see is that even if this works whats stopping sony from changing the boot order sequence to hard drive first in a firmware update?

  63. truth
    September 17th, 2010 | 03:11

This still looking good, prob take a while but someone will figure out how to spread it.

@Sandy if they change the sequence, it’s just a matter of someone reversing it and update the hack. They’ll likely change the games as well, but again it’s just a matter of creating workarounds.
