Apple Store celebrates 1 billion sold apps

Apple is nearing a significant milestone: 1 billion apps that users have downloaded via its Apps Store. To celebrate, the company is hosting a contest worth over $10,000. To enter, all users have to do is visit the dedicated contest page, where an Apple counter is counting up. When the counter hits “1,000,000,000″, the contest is over. The prize package is worth $13,746, and includes a 17-inch MacBook Pro, an iPod Touch 32GB, a $10,000 iTunes gift certificate; and an Apple Time Capsule. The company also revealed the top 20 downloaded apps of all time, and this includes games Tap Tap Revenge, Super Monkey Ball, and Koi Pond, and a Facebook app.

Customers can enter up to 25 times per day, either by downloading an app or by visiting a separate page that negates the purchase requirement. (As reader “suefrost” noted, however, this isn’t correct; users who use the page without the purchase requirement receive a message “You have entered to [sic] many times today” if they try to sign up more than once.) Although the iPhone and iPod touch have been an unqualified success, a billion downloaded apps is still a spectacular milestone, as the service has been available for less than a year. In December, Pandora Radio said that over 2 million users had downloaded its free app; the service ranks third on a list of free apps that Apple has posted; Facebook and Google Earth are the top two.

Can's believe there are more than 1,000,000,000 idiots in the world.

The idiots are obviously the first two posters.

It's 1,000,000,000 apps. Not people, not iPhone, not subscribers.

I'm really glad the haters are usually idiots. That way they give themselves away every single time.

And poster no. 6 gets the next idiot of the day award.

    1B apps != 1B users or phones

Is it that hard to understand the difference?

I also really enjoy all the glorious misspellings I see here.

It's just iPhone, as simple as that. Not IPhone, iphone, I-Phone, i-Phone, IPHONE, I-PHONE or any other ludicrous permutation of letters you can come up with.

If only the haters were as smart as they're loud.

simon, poster no 8 is the typical apple fanboi. a spelling n4zi who thinks being an arrogant c0cky corksniffing patronizing pill0ck is cool….lol.

the point those other posters were making…which you apple fanbois missed because you were too busy being..fanbois…is that when most people read that, it looks like they sold 1 billion iphones-macbooks-etc…

its a publicity stunt thing, the way they worded it….while the majority of the sold stuff is d4mb software for d4mb4sses who have too much time on their hands.

microsoft probably sold 100 billion apps, you dont see them trying to make it look like they sold 100 billion pcs.

Damn people, get a life, seriously.
1 billionth download is a nice milestone and if you're a developer doing stuff for mobile platforms you should probably care. But in any other case, why give a fukc?
Arguing about this sh!t here makes you all look stupid :D

Thanks for the confirmation. All the insults, the d*ck, pr*ck, f*ck, and other niceties you have dished out just confirm you are haters. And (judging by the other posts I already pointed out) mentally challenged haters too. I'm having a good laugh over you. Thanks for the fun. At least you're useful for something.

and i m celebrating my wallet not being raped by Crapple's crap products. There are so many players out there that you dont have to waste time converting video, dont have to worry about whether an app is allowed or not.

So many bought these apps but 90% of the people that buy them use the app they get 3 times at the most and never again lol.
