I think you're the fool, who thinks blu-ray is it and there's nothing else. Think before you talk out of your ass. Atleast the other guy predicted 10 years before the next thing.

I had VCR skipped Laser Discs/VCDs and went to DVD. I'll jump Blu-Ray. DVDs will be here until BR dies. And it will die. I give it 5 years tops.

What I really want to see is a blu-ray player that plays DIVX7 (AVI and MKV in HD), MP3, CD, DVD, BR-R, MPG, MP4, WMV and supports USB and MicroSDHC card. Priced at £40. Now THAT may take a few good years.

Thanks for the info on PS3MediaServer, I've been using tversity to stream my hd files but I have to re-encode them first with ps3video9 or mkv2vob, I'll give it a try to see if it will play the mkv with converting it first because sometimes my sound wouldn't work on some movies even when I converted them plus if it will play a regular mkv that will cut my time in half.

I looked into that popcorn media server, and it sounds like what I was talking about. Read some reviews some good some bad. I think it was made in China and takes 2 to 3 weeks to get. People complained about it not working all the time and not having any customer support. Others praised it as the best media server and that could play anything. Do you know if it comes with a hard drive, I couldn't find that out but I did read that you can install your own.

Besides that my ps3 has been good to me for watching hd content, I got a 360 but it seems a little harder and longer to convert hd movies for it plus I didn't want to buy a wireless adapter, more wires.

To the guy who said blank blu rays are 100 bucks, your wrong maybe around 20-30 bucks if a blank br discs cost 100 bucks then all blue ray movies would cost about $125

still is MUCH more convenient DVD5 than DVD9 size vs price

hope that BR disc have a BIG drop, or i'll stick to DVD5 with x264 MKV rips :p

Oh and to add to the other person saying they can stream mkv HD titles to the PS3, there is one downside. You've only got a stereo audio output from that and it sucks . Unless I'm doing something wrong.

Didn't Sony already announce 3D bluray titles for the future with a software update for PS3 or other compatible hardware? (and of course a 3D TV).

BR will be around for a while yet… 10 – 15 years I would think.

To be honest who really wants anything above 1080p anyway? (for home use). And to say 10 or 15k are you insane? Maybe IMAX stuff will come on that… no other films would have a chance, 15x the resolution would also be mega expensive (TV wise).

Going from VHS to DVD was adapted quicker, because we didn't need to upgrade all of our equipment to notice the huge gains in video quality. A lot of people didn't make the switch until DVD players started selling for about $50 or less.

For most of us that still use CRT TVs, BR requires a substantial upgrade to get the full video quality gain. I think you'll see more people switch to BR when 1080p TVs get down to around $300-$400 (36" and bigger), and BR players are about $50-$75. Maybe in a couple more years.

To all of you wanting to know the what the new format of High Definition will be? I have watched a documentary on it. In Japan they are developing an 10K by 15K resolution format, ready by 2015. So how about "dem apples?"

You'd be able to see high def on a screen the size of a movie theatre. I guess the organic flat screens will emerge. I've also seen out of M.I.T. a new screen that rolls out like wallpaper — still development, but it's the future of screens. That'll play 10k by 15k.

Enjoy your 720p and 1080p for now.

One more thing…. how's a 10k by 15k resolution going to be downloadable efficiently… my poor bandwidth

dont get me wrong, soon as sony will release code for developers ps3 will be the first console that will use BDisc fully for gaming industry, this is a war and we are consumers… )

Dude where you think all of our HDrips come froM? to say we dont need bluray is to say we dont need HD content.

Just cause you dont buy em doesnt mean you dont need em

I know I appreciate all the groups that rip the blurays for us. I definitley need the format cause going back to SD now would suck monkey testi's three times over.
