ZitZot: Rapidshare fined €24m for hosting illegal songs

File hosting service Rapidshare has been fined €24m by a German court and ordered to filter online content more effectively. German royalties collector GEMA, which brought the case against the company, had called on the Regional Court in Hamburg to order Rapidshare to prohibit around 5,000 music tracks from being made available online.

“The judgment states that the hosting service itself is now responsible for making sure that none of the music tracks concerned are distributed via its platform in the future,” according to a GEMA.

    I love Rapidshare. I connect @ 24Mb and I get 24Mb speed from them. 1 Gig takes less than 7 mins and it is cheap considering that 1 movie costs that much to watch at the cinema for 3 months of Rapidshare.

    i love RS… i can download 10 files at once and get over 4m on each ona 100mb line, ive used hotfile and other and there just very slow like 300k max download

    lol, the news was inaccurate, staff replied so they know it's inaccurate, but the staff here still wouldn't fix the news

    Hotfile suks to the max…. terrible speeds. Megaupload and RS is much better.

    The reason everyone is uploading to Hotfile is because you get paid every time someone downloads your file.

    GOOD! Im sick of seeing company's like rapidshare making money from pirated material. Its companies like this media agencies should go after, not the user like they do with p2p.

    Great! Fuk rapidshare. The greatest uploaders use several sites like rapidshare, hotfile, megaupload, netload with interchangeable links so you can download multiple parts at the same time for FREEEEEEEEEEE! All other uploaders are lamers and can kiss my azz!
