ZitZot: NEC CRV43 – 43″ curved super LCD

NEC’s huge CRV43 LCD display – which offers a gently curving 43-inch  2,880 x 900 resolution panel – has finally got a release date and price, though don’t expect much change from $8k.  Intended for graphic designers and command/control users, the CRV43 runs at double-WGXA resolution and connects with a single DVI-D or HDMI 1.3 connector.

nec crv43 1 480x330

Contrast is 10,000:1, while the CRV43 puts out 200 cd/m2 brightness and has a 0.02ms response time.  Those wanting this for design work rather than just desk boasting rights will be pleased to hear that it offers 100-percent coverage of sRGB and 99.3-percent coverage of Adobe RGB.

    2,880 x 900 – what the f**k can you do with that lol, it's hardly a HD resolution…. and there are better 42 inch flatscreens with higher contrast ratios that costs half as much, then half again. what a waste of money this is….

    Would it have killed them to add another 180 lines to move it 2880×1080? I bet that would double sales of that screen.

    Funny how so many people complain about it's price and resolution specs….my guess is those whiners didn't read the explanatory text about this new display, "Intended for graphic designers and command/control users"
    This LCD display is just not developed for your fancy games and theatre like wanting to watch widescreen movies.
    Just read before you whine…

    What the hell is with all the comments from people who quite obviously didn't even read the article.

    "Intended for graphic designers and command/control users"

    The summary is a little over 7 lines long, how could people miss that?

    This would be a perfect replacement for the multiple display setup we have at work..
    For $8k we'll make do though!

    I am not at all impressed with this. There are still approximately 270 degrees of viewing angle that this thing does not cover. For that kinda money I want a full 360 degree surround monitor. Think about the potentially useful applications! For example when playing a racing game you could look over your shoulder to see the car behind you!…..
    Actually scratch that… I want a monitor that is 360 x 360 degrees. Imagine the potentially useful applications! When play an aircraft simulator you could look down and see the floor of the plane or look up and see the buttons and knobs and other sh!t on the roof of the plane…. or look up and see the rotor if it's a helicopter, or look back at the passengers behind you or look over and see your copilot!!!
    So to sum up, NEC are going to have to do a lot better to get my money.

    Actually it's not lcd, but system made of 4 DLP projectors. That's why the response time is so low. 0,02ms is unreachable for any LCD.

    @ #32

    Dude, the apple 30" cini display is for graphics design and stuff too but it can still be used for games and movies. LCD TVs can be used as a PC monitor. Who are you to tell people what this LCD is for? Sure if it had rediculously high refresh rate you may have and argument but it has a 2ms response time. The Apple 30" cini display has a 16ms (!) response time and people still game and watch movies on it. The only huge difference between this and MOST other LCD monitor on the market is the size. That's it. It shouldn't cost 8k. Between three to four grand maybe but eight is rediculous. Two 30" monitors would have a wider resolution both lenght and width and you can get that for 2k. Two 30" Samsungs. Arguably the best 30" monitors on the market.

    Know what you're talking about next time before you make as ass of yourself.

  39. Robert
    June 6th, 2009 | 00:01

    @moerty

    That's not true. There are LCD monitors with 2ms response time. Samsung has them just to name one.

    To add to my previous post with the money saved by buying two 30" monitors over this one one can used the money save to have a custom bezel+mount created to eliminate bezel interference. With that you could buy 3 30" displays for 3k and with the 5k saved have a custom bezel fabricated that shouldn't cost more than a few hundred. Use the rest for a vacation!

    erhm.. nope, 1080p = 1080 pixels high.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080p

    Assuming a 16:9 ratio, 1080p = 1920×1080

Economic times now are hard, you should know that by now, given that this is a pirate site. If prices go up, so does the advertising and the need to make money. Give this site a break and stop your whining otherwise go and start your own release site.

  46. Kim
    June 6th, 2009 | 05:39

    It hasn't got 1080 pixels because it is in a letterbox shape, when you but a blu-ray that is letterbox the picture is only 1920×1080 if you include the black bars. It's like widescreen compared to 4:3, widescreen has 1024 pixels across, 4:3 is only 720.

    This telly looks very cool and I think I would get one just so I don't get the black bars when watching a movie, I hate those things. I've got a 42'' telly and it cost 1/8 of what this does, and it's a Samsung plasma, it has a contrast ratio of 10,000:1, it is only 1280×720 but you can get a 1080p telly for alot less than £4,000.

    IT'S NOT A TV, IT'S A LCD DISPLAY INTENDED FOR GRAPHIC DESIGNERS AND COMMAND/CONTROL USERS. SERIOUSLY, HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO SKIP YOUR EYES OVER THE FIRST FEW LINES OF TEXT? [/cruise control]

    @ 39. Robert, thanks for telling me I'm not right, but all I did was quoting the text from the editor dude, so please read what someone is actually saying before you start flaming your arse off like 75% of the people do here.
    Quoting some text from you "Know what you're talking about next time before you make as ass of yourself."
    I think that line of text is better suitable for your accusations.
    Now please, get your act straight before you start spitting fire into the wrong direction bro.

  50. Fred
    June 6th, 2009 | 17:23

    @40 Robert

    Perhaps you've misread the specs – it's actually 0.02 ms response time. Now show me an LCD monitor that can pull that off :P .

  51. SemDD
    June 6th, 2009 | 23:20

    This monster is most probably targeted precisely for air traffic controllers and real high-level military purposes, though i will doubt about the requirements for the air traffic – a couple of years ago they still didn't allow normal LCDs to substitute radar screens on ship decks, let alone the ATCs in the airports.
    As such a niche product, it is a luck we are able to know anything about it. My bet: the series is already sold in advance to a paying customer that simply doesn't give a **** about the price tag. And mind me, i WOULD want a rebate on these ;)

  52. Robert
    June 6th, 2009 | 23:52

    @SirMoMo

    Dude, you're telling people to stop whining because the monitor wasn't made for what they want and assumed they didn't read the specs and told them they should probably do so before posting like they were children or something.

    Again, doesn't matter what the specs state. People will use it for whatever they want regardless of the specs. Games can scale or have custom resolution profiles created to fit the screen.

    And regardless of what it was made for 8k is totally rediculous. I think 3-4k is even too much. Maybe 2k. The resolution is basically 2 19" monitors side by side.

    @Fred

    You were right. My bad.

  53. Mike

  54. SirMoMo
    June 7th, 2009 | 11:38

    @ 53. Robert,

    Yet again you fail to read what I said.. you told me I am making an ass out of myself. Stop saying crap that isn't the issue here, again you start talking about games…This Display is and wasn't designed to be used for games…geez man. Why can't you just stick with the things that are being said instaid of making your own side of the story here bro. And for what you say about that the resolution is basically two "19 monitors side by side, yea that is true, but this display doesn't have the two monitor gap, and has a curve, so my guess is that those two things are also in the price included? (and I never even mentioned anything about the price, so I am curious why you need use those facts as a response towards me all the time)
    Now with that said, you can keep having a go at me to any extend you want, but I really can't see why you would wanna do that unless you fancy making yourself want to look like a horses rear end.
    Alas, I'm gonna stop wasting my time responding to your utterly useless posts(for me they are due to the offensive nature)and focus on some newer posts. So please don't expect any replies to you from me on this thread anymore, unless you have something useful and thoughtful to say.

    Cheers dude!

    SirMoMo, again, doesn't matter what it was made for.

    Stop being so hung up on the specs. (Which is why I keep stating specs.) The price of 8k is unjustifiable. Not even half. Doesn't matter what it was designed for. At the end of the day it's a monitor that provides in general the same exact functions as most others on the market today. Talk to me about 8k being reasonable when a monitor provides a function that enables users to see the future.

    And games can be run on any monitor regardless of what it's made for as long as there's an input.

    curved screen is a nice concept and great for simulators, and other things that may require extra wide view(like a view of my lower region), but i havn't seen any software that compensates for the curve, all video outputs are desighned for a flat surface, so when that flat surface gets curved it will look kind of wrong unless they make a driver to take advantage of that feture,

    also for real graphics desighn the vertical res is way too low.

    8k well if you need it you will pay what ever it takes, or get tow of them one on top of the other and double your virtical size(hopfully bazell to make it one large screen.

    6 min in photoshop how it should have been
