ZitZot: Aquos HDTV, Sharp TV with LED backlighting

LED-backlit HDTVs once were an expensive rarity, but that’s changing. Sharp Electronics’ new line of Aquos HDTVs offer the premium of LED backlighting. The advantage of LED backlighting: It can boost black levels and minimize power consumption, even while still providing a superior level of brightness.

The new 32- ($1,100), 40- ($1,700), 46- ($2,200) and 52-inch ($2,800) LE700-series Aquos LED TVs use Sharp’s UltraBrilliant LED backlighting technology, which features a full array of evenly spaced LEDs behind a diffusing panel. The 120-Hz TVs are rated for 4ms pixel-response rates, and have motion-smoothing dejudder technology. The TVs also have an immpressively wide angle of view, 176-degrees.

the Samsung LED's are great and I can't imagine these Sharp screens being any less in quality. I've always preferred plasma over LCD but the way LED technology is going, plasma better keep on their game.

Martin you are a certified douchebag!

Firstly, the TV has **LED** backlighting not LCD backlighting you tool, and how is this news? Samsung and Sony along w/ LG and Toshiba have had LED out for months. How is this news worthy? Besides, Samsung and Sony's LED backlit TV's would put Sharp to shame.

Get a life. Stop posting stupid crap from Zit Zot and crawl back into your worthless hole.

Samsung screens FTW! No argument there. SONY and LG are fighting hard for the 2nd spot.
Can't say the same for their overpriced crappy mobiles though.

I think he meant LED backlighting. OLED is greater than LED which is greater than LCD. This has been around for a while. Wait for mass production on OLED before getting a new HDTV. It's not worth the price to upgrade if you have an HDTV at the moment.

Actually, LED isn't necessarily greater than LCD b/c it *IS* LCD – it's purely an LCD TV w/ LED backlighting. Comparing an LCD to an LED LCD to an OLED is a mute point. Comparing OLED to an LED backlit LCD on the other hand is a valid comparison.
But what most people dont realize is than LED and :CD are in fact the same – just the backlighting provided is different.

@12 – all the articles at zitzot (and previously rlslog tech news) are direct copy n' paste, have always been.

That's why zitzot is such an epic fail – it's not even a decent syndication site.

I see why this is valid/newsworthy here.

This article is about the price being lower than other namer brand LEDs
LEDs improvement over regular LCD is less power consumption
OLED is WAY more expensive but it also blows everything here out of the water.

Oops, This is valid/newsworthy here because we watch movies and play games that we download here on something so i thinks its fine to inform us on new things releasing to market like this.
