YouTube will sell games and music
Google has announced that it is to start selling games through YouTube soon thanks to a partnership with Amazon.com, as well as MP3s through a deal with Apple’s iTunes store. YouTube, which is owned by Google, is one of the most popular sites on the internet thanks to the plentiful amount of LOLcats, faceplants, sneezing pandas and other truly fantastic videos, but has so far not managed to turn a single penny of profit. In an effort to try and get a bit of money out of the video-sharing website then, Google has partnered with Amazon and Apple to put ‘Buy it now!’ buttons below certain videos. The idea then is that if you were watching a gameplay video of FIFA ‘09 for the Xbox 360, for example, then you would be able to buy it on the spot if you so chose.
While game videos will be linked to Amazon.com, similar buttons will be available on music videos that will allow the user to buy the song through Apple’s iTunes music store. Both Apple and Amazon will be sharing revenue with Google as part of the deal, according to Reuters. Youtube, which is so popular that around 13 hours of video are uploaded every minute, will continue to explore other ways of generating profit, including on-site advertising. Google paid $1.65 billion USD for the site back in 2006, which is enough to put a dent even in Google’s bank account, so getting a few bucks back is a good idea.

long gone are the days of youtube being a site of vids of the people, for the people, now it’s just turning into another big business corporate schill
Yes, because all the people who flock to YT daily ’cause of no ads and free content will obviously embrace this idea with open arms and start paying for sh!t left n’ right…
hal redirect that communist angst into killing– I mean sacrificing yourself.
“YouTube will sell games and music”
And we’ll go to pirate bay and buy them
everyone complain to google that it will ruin the tube and they wont proceed!!!!

I don’t know what you’re all complaining about. Who cares if there’s a “Buy it now” button under the video. Nobody is forcing you to click it, and it wont stop you viewing the vid, so who cares?
Anyway, what would be better is if the person who uploaded the vid got paid a commission every time someone bought something via the “buy it now” button.
I think it’s a great idea as long as it’s just some subtle buttons. If it’s huge blinking banners and stuff then it might just be the death of YT considering there are other alternatives out there offering better video quality etc.
What??? That’s kinda lame, I think if I were to do online buying I’d rather still go through Amazon… I think that’s just weird…
I support this … because …
1. Contents are still free
2. Buy now is optional, nobody is forcing
3. Ads that do not harm the eye, no huge banners
4. Related contents, help in finding desired thing
5. Previews of music, games before you buy them
6. Google is not selling directly, its other sites which are masters, google is just helping find the right content
7. Possibility to earn some revenue if your video produces clicks / purchases (Google should think about that)
8. Google is always taking ideas from everyone, its not always dictatorship like MS
9. I still like Google
10. No other reasons
dudes no need to buy the vids and songs just get firefox and the plugin “unplug” and you can download the shi t for free! No need to even be worried about this.
“getting a few bucks back is a good idea” – no, it isn’t. Ads are everywhere, only yt is free so far
this should cover a very small number of the actual vids on youtube. Like movie trailers, music videos, and game clips. For everything else which is like 90% of youtube, there’s nothing to sell. Unless they put a link to buy diapers on a video of a laughing baby, cause that would be ridiculous. As long as they don’t pull a facebook on us, then i don’t see a huge problem.
very good move for them i think it could make a lot of money for them
