    keepvid.com is a great solution.

You can download from almost any video streaming site, usually in .avi,mp4, flv for linux, windows,Mac

The firefox extension is painfully slow, and is now listed on the top 10 ff extensions to avoid.

I’m gonna give this a go and see if it fixes the audio sync problems inherent with downloading files from these sites.

I would like to see more video sites have HD video streaming. The video looks good in the iriginal small window, but when you go full size, you can barely tell whats going on.

  15. April 12th, 2007 | 13:12

Stupid mean people will make useless remark like:
“Stupid people will pay for free things.”

But let them be mean as they won’t do anything else.
    Let them be.

When you have grabbed some videos from YOUTUBE.COM rename it from xxxxxxxx.flv to xxxxxxxx.avi and play it in Media Player Classic and it will work you won’t need the FLV Player

ripzor.com (mentioned by bossnanova) is good.

However, I usually go to this site to quickly rip Google/YouTube vids:

    http://www.videodl.org/

Be sure to change the file extension to “.FLV” after ripping.

FLV is a container, not a format. Nocato mentions changing the extension to “.avi” to play it in Media Player Classic. This is a trick that works, but it is not proper - the file only plays in Media Player Classic because of its native support that can read the file header and 4cc (you can rename an “avi” file to “mpg” and it will play in Media Player Classic also - but that doesn’t mean that it’s an MPEG!!!).

You can PROPERLY extract the video and audio data (avi and mp3) from the FLV with Moitah’s “FLV Extract” (free):

    http://moitah.net/#FLVExtract

You can then mux/edit/convert with a tool like VirtualDub (free):

    http://virtualdub.org/

There are lots of tools to convert to MPEG, but TMPGEnc is still one of the best. The latest version is available here (free MPEG-1 encoding):

    http://tmpgenc.net/

and TMPGEnc beta 12a is available here (free MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 encoding):

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27674

Also, you do not need a special player for FLV vids. You can add system-wide support for FLV’s if you have a DirectShow decoder/splitter that handles the FLV1/FLV4 4cc’s, and if you have a codec for the h.263, h.264, and VP6 formats (the most common encoding formats for FLV).

    Get Gabest’s FLV splitter (free):

    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=183318

Get the latest build of ffdshow, which is excellent at decoding many video formats, not just FLV-related (free):

    http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=173941

Or, just get the latest K-Lite Codec Pack, which includes Gabest’s FLV splitter and ffdshow (free):

    http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

And, if you want one of the best media players (with native support for some formats), get Gabest’s Media Player Classic (free):

    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358

or VideoLAN’s VLC Media Player (free):

    http://www.videolan.org/

I have K-Lite Codec Pack, which installs ffdshow, FLV splitter, and Media Player Classic. I play FLV’s with any media player on my computer - it’s awesome.

Most of you will already know about these programs and tools, but at there’s no harm in repeating - it may help somebody.

First thing is to play just about any kind of media file try using VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Second I’ve used mediapirate for grabbing the videos with no problems with sounds sync http://www.mediapirate.org/

Thirdly to convert them to a usable format I use either ImToo (not free) or mediaconverter http://www.mediaconverter.org/

You shouldn’t need to convert them though as VLC pretty much covers a format and it free.

I’m sure there are other but these just work perfectly for me.

Thanks to rlslog for all the great scene release nfo, you rock man!!!!

Meh, I use the free plugin to grab videos, and the free program FLV Converter to convert .flv files to .mpg. Then I just use Windows Movie Maker to convert the mpgs to wmvs.

I’ve tried several different programs… all of them work but the color changes. The people start to look blue…is there a way to fix it?
