YouTube confirms revenue from uploading

Google confirmed a small revolution: users uploading videos to famous portal YouTube will be receiving unspecified share from ad revenue. YouTube founder Chad Hurley confirmed to the BBC that his team was working on a revenue-sharing mechanism that would “reward creativity”.The system would be rolled out in a couple of months, he said, and use a mixture of adverts, including short clips shown ahead of the actual film. The offer applies only to people who own the full copyright of the videos that they are uploading to the YouTube website – this means you can earn some money only with your own videos, not by uploading the latest version of South Park.

Other video sharing sites such as Revver already split advertising revenues with users uploading original content, but only YouTube has managed to attract an audience measuring in the tens of millions. YouTube had not had a revenue sharing model was one of the reasons for its success, as that had allowed the website to focus on its key strength, making it easy to share videos with others. I am not completely sure how much money is Google going to share or whether it will be measured by views or clicks on the ads, but if you put 1 + 1 together and check some videos with over million views, this may have a really decent potential. May be it won’t take a long time to see “YouTube video uploader” as a regular job…

They’re making a big mistake with this, that they are.
It’s so blatantly obvious that they should fix their current problems instead of bringing in new features.

If this becomes as annoying as I think it will be, like those pre-movies on gametrailers, this will be the end of YouTube on my behalf at least.

    STOP THE HATE.

This will at least encourage budding filmmakers and TV producers to get off their asses and produce something useful and maybe fun. Hacking Windoze XP clips or fan shorts or whatever. You don’t have to watch it. Yeah, there’s a lot of substandard stupid shit on YouTube and Metacafe,Google Video, etc, but have you seen late night TV lately?
