YouTube blamed for kid’s bullying
The parents of a teen who suffered a horrific beating from six other teens are blaming websites like MySpace and YouTube for allowing videos of such attacks to be broadcast on their sites. Six other teens beat up 16-year-old Victoria Lindsay on March 30, recorded it, and threatened to post the video on the two top visited sites. Lindsay has still not fully recovered her hearing and sight a week after the videotaped beating after telling coppers that the girls threatened to post the video of the beating on MySpace and YouTube.
The Plod have found the video and it did show Lindsay being severely beaten, unable to escape. Ironically the video never made it to YouTube, but it was run by the Orlando Sentinel’s Web site as part of its ‘legitimate’ news coverage. YouTube pointed out that once a video was complained about it was taken down. Unfortunately it does not know what is in the video when the user uploads it. That would require mind reading skills. The terms and conditions of the site forbid such content being uploaded. MySpace has a dedicated content review team that examines every video and image before they are posted to ensure that users do not violate the terms of use, the employee said.

This is wrong! We also have to find out what brand of camcorder it was coz that company is equaly responsible. Had there not been a solution to record that event, these brats would have never felt the urge to commit such a henious act of violence. There should be a statutory warning like “Video Recrding device – keep off from bully kids” written on all such devices. And we should have some kind of strong law in place to prevent such kind of event happening again in future.

Why aren’t the boys numbers posted? Those two are just as responsible as the girls! Even more so because they stood by and let it happen when they could have stopped it. And didn’t they also help drag that poor girl into a car to be dumped somewhere after she was beaten unconscious?

Its the easiest thing to blame youtube, video games etc, I grew up watching violent films and playing violent games and it hasn’t given me the urge to beat somebody up for no reason lol. The real issue is society in general is more violent, angry and aggressive than ever, I’m from England and can say for certain that its not a problem just isolated to the US, its global. A lot of people just don’t know how to behave or function in a civilised society. The solution is to stop inept parents from breeding, put them in jail, anything really, because its innocent people who ultimately have to clear up their crap.
There’s worse things. Like having your genitals felt out by 3 boys while the 20 or so kids are laughing in your face (it happened to a 11 year old girl). Still, this is inexcusable. I bullied other children when I was younger, but certainly not to this extent. I’d like to be left alone in the room with all 6 of them for a couple of, let’s say, hours.
The real reason is that the parent’s of the children doing the beating involved did a pathetic job raising them.
a) Parents should be able to smack a child when it’s misbehaving.
b) Parents should have to get a license to legally raise a child. Hell, you need one to drive.
c) Start supporting post-pregnancy abortion.

I wouldn’t put you in the same room with them. You might start reminiscing about old times and fun times. If you feel bad that you were a bully, you should go and apologize to the person you attacked or harassed.
And that 11 year old wasn’t bullied, she was sexually assaulted. Learn the difference and you might actually amount to something.

Just imagine how bad it will be one day if these little runts grow up and have kids too… These incidents are happening all over Europe and North America these days. I’ve never heard of something like this taking place in Hong Kong or Japan where parents are usually extremely strict with their kids.

How about looking at the REAL issue here? The non-chalant way of violence and how it has become part of everyones lives? How about taking a deep look into the mirror before you brush your teeth and try to count the amount of violent images you are subjected to throughout a normal day?
I grew up with very violent movies and video-games, so I am not saying its a direct cause. But the series of for example torture-porn films and Hollywood´s way of dealing with torture and violence (but not sex?) – is definitely something to think about, because I feel it says – “it´s OK to kill someone, if you believe they are bad”. Just look at the amount of school shootings since Columbine. The States are crazy with their liberal gun-laws, one reason I don´t wanna go there (because otherwise it seems like such a beautiful country!)

This sort of thing really pisses me off, These animals needs to be severely punished. Some people elsewhere have said “why didn’t she fight back” well if she did and started to win i am sure all of them would have ganged up on her and she would be worse off. I do not think the victim has a LEGAL case against youtube, but youtube (or more generically internet videos, virals) is socially responsible because they showcase this sort of crap and it makes it mainstream as far as youth are concerned, which in their minds makes is OK. I am not saying we need censorship, but when this sort of thing arises, punishment needs to swift and severe to discourage this behavior. I would like to see all the accused (im automatically placing guilt due to video evidence) pay a fine, lose their driving privileges till 21, and go to jail with a felony, now some of them are under 16, so they unfortunately will get off with lighter punishment. This is all in the scope of the legal system, now if I had it my way, I would put a combination of Krav maga and pistol whipping to good use.

Timmy, there is no reason that is a “good” reason or any kind of excuse for attacking someone without provocation. Ever. When groups of kids see other kids bullying they should band together and fight the bullies. Not with violence, if you don’t have to, but with brains. Remember, 20 or 30 little kids can humiliate 5 big kids by going around to their parents houses and holding a protest against the bullies. Embarrass the parents sufficiently and they’ll go after their kids.

It’s the age of the perpetrator that determines whether or not they are tried as adults – not the “childishness” of the crime. And this crime was not childish. It was a violent assault that caused the victim to be hospitalized.
Also, juveniles can be tried for assault and battery, kidnapping and any other adult crime a prosecutor wishes. And yes, they can be held at a maximum security juvenile detention center if found guilty.

here in austria those things happen pretty often lately, i think youth gets totally out of control these days, i have to think of the movie “the class of 1984″, in the early eighties something like cops patroling at schools was something totally futuristic and kinda horrible to imagine here in austria so this really was a good movie to shock and make people worry a little……today we actually have that in some schools, cops are patroling to ensure safety, teens bring guns, teachers are too scared to open their mouths, parents are clueless etc. etc. JUST LIKE IN THAT MOVIE! not in all schools but one or two or three schools are already too much. its a fact that with every generation it gets worse, things like the-class-of-1984 example here in austria proves that.

Well everyone says it’s because of bad parenting that stuff like this happens… Maybe it isn’t bad parenting. I know people who are perfect “angels” at home; when they leave, they change to a totally different lifestyle. You can’t just say it’s the parents’ fault. They may not have even known what their kids were like. My parents never knew who I was when I was out with friends (not that I really did anything wrong… A little minor drinking they never found out about), and these parents shouldn’t be held responsible anymore for their kids. I’m assuming they’re all 16 or over, meaning they can think for themselves; they know right from wrong. Some people (these 8 are fine examples) are just plain stupid. If you’re looking to get in touch with these girls, don’t get to them through their parents… Chances are if they go to prison, they’ll change when they get out.
True, movies like that shouldn’t be on Youtube. Despite what all online geeks say, it does give a wrong example for other people who will mimic these things. It’s not a videogame or movie, but an actuall event that is filmed!

I wish I had’nt watched that, it made me a little sick. I hate the way that kids have much more of a pack mentality these days, no one in the group tried to calm the situation. The last report was that she had still not regained much of her hearing after the attack. Just because you heard them telling each other to be careful of something in the house, doesn’t mean she did. And “dazed” does not begin to describe what you feel after you are struck in the head. She had a concussion, Jacko. And believe me, if you’d ever been concussed you’d know she was unable to function on any level at that point. The first blow disabled her completely, which is what makes speculating about what you or anyone else would have done in her place a case of grand standing.
there is one thing i never understand in such cases:
no matter with who i talk about it, EVERYONE says “if this happens to me i get my revenge and break their fu**in necks!”….”if my son gets beaten up i grab me those mofos and beat em up as well!” , and EVERYTIME such a thing happens to someone….obviously NO ONE DOES ANYTHING, there are no parents taking revenge, the victims obviously as well have no sense of revenge-feelings towards their attackers and so on.
..is it just me and the people i talk to who are willing to take actions to punish and revenge the victim or are we all just talkin and then when it really happens to one of us we all just shut up and let the whole thing go like all those other victims obviously do ?

The girl hasn’t gained hearing in her left ear, and still can’t see through her left eye.
I remember back in my “calm and peaceful” town in New Brunswick, 4 people I knew ganged up in my town’s sports center on a 16 year old kid from a city closeby my town… The kid was mouthing off to one of the guys, and when he went to the bathroom, the 4 guys came in with a baseball bat (all with bandanas on) and the kid was at the urinal… One guy started it by taking his head and bashing it into the wall in front of him, knocking out his teeth. There were only 2 guys actually beating on him, the other two were more watching and didn’t do anything… They beat him really bad (not filming it though), and then took off with a 5th guy, waiting outside the bathroom being the lookout. They took off in his mom’s van! LOL Everyone in my town knew who it was, they’re all idiots for doing what they’re doing. And the kid was found a few minutes later by a little kid going into the bathroom. They all got caught a few days later; only one of them was 19 (rest were minors) and was charged for beating the kid with the bat, and this guy didn’t do anything but watch… He protected the other guy (who had the bat), who ratted him and everyone else out… That guy better watch his back, cuz he’s got enemies now… Soo yeah, these “random” beatings aren’t so random… I can’t believe kids do this for no reason. The girls obviously had something on their mind OTHER than youtube, seeing as how they were yelling at her about something when she ran away from school. What the heck. People have no right to do this, and they could have wasily killed her. People who do things like this shouldn’t deserve to have a second chance, because they were taught everywheres they go (family, fiends, school) that violence is wrong.

taking turns makes this a one on one fight. she is repeatedly called to defend herself. it’s not like they just came down on her as a group.
if she managed to anger a whole group of 6 girls, she should have thought about what they were able to do. the girls obviously feel supremely ashamed at what has been said about them, or they wouldn’t go for complete privacy in one of their homes. there is an argument going on, the beating happens on the side of things.

If you want to bring up the argument of what happend to a civilized society look at it this way you and your parents neithier have the intelligence nor are the a supreme being that can tell what is uncivilized or not appropriate that is what we have laws for.
Well we caught up with S. Korea. there were stories like this years ago, with MUD’s, etc. causing beatings, and yes, even killings.
We as a society are experiencing an effect of the information age, and I believe its about time for a midlife crisis around 2020, but these are nothing but growing pains. People usually will invent/create new ways to interact (be it beatings or whatever) with each other in new and exciting (or disturbing) ways! Yay for humans! Boo to caring what pre/teenage girls are doing/thinking/singing(can anyone say Hannah Montana?)

Me personally have played all the GTAs, ALOT of FPS games, ive played Manhunt ffs! and what do i do with me life? i dont beat people! i bloody work!
Parents dont discipline their children enough. if i did something wrong when i was younger – i got smacked. and it brought me up the right way. never been in trouble with the police, dont have a criminal record. i wish we could do to people what they do to others in situations like this. i would love to show them how it feels to be on the recieving end of a brutal attack for no reason.

You all thought Idol was an innocent endeavor but look what it’s produced.
Youtube helps pander to those that want to be seen by everyone but there’s so much noise on there now you have to do something different to be noticed. So people resort to videotaping violent acts and let’s face it, it works.
Now everyone has noticed them and they have their fame.
So I say let’s ban all Reality TV and bring back reruns of the Dukes of Hazzard.
YouTube is now pulling the videos on this subject.

just saw the movie with audio. from what i understood the girl that gave the beating got cheated on by her botfriend or something with the girl that got beaten. don’t missunderstand. i totally dissaprove of the beating. i think psychological damage is worse that phisical. didn’t thing she wou;d get so banged up from those punches, didn’t seem so hard. still, no hearing or seeing is ***** up.

youtube has nothing to do with this for sure, maybe inorder for this kids to get more hit rate from the viewers of youtube fueled the idea of severely beating someone inorder to become popular. this kids might have planned this act a long time ago, the victim might also have provoked the suspects which had lead them to beat her up. or maybe she was unknowingly lured to the lions den all along and got assualted for no reason. or probobly the whole act was some sort of a gang hazing.
but after watching the video, its for sure that the victim did something very wrong to provoke the other girls. the video was both disturbing and funny. its disturbing because the victim was very helpless, she got beaten up and got unconscious and when she got her senses back they beat her up on the couch and then got beaten up some more, i can see that she’s very scared and she’s isolated too in a house where she’s trapped, i find it funny because one of the girls is very much concerned not to hurt or damage the furnitures than the girl who’s getting mobbed.
the girls are also profoundly stupid, they even provided proof and evidence for the cops when they started to film the whole thing… they are definitely going to regret this for the rest of their lives, they have mug shoots everywhere and their actions will stay attached to their names in search engines like Google and Yahoo for decades, and behold their masterpiece that will get them banned from certain universities and job employments as well….
