Yet another new RLSLOG server installed!

Extreme situations require extreme solutions. It’s not that long since our last server upgrade, but increasing demand and amount of visitors forced us to upgrade again. And I wanted to be sure this server will last for a while so I decided to order a slightly more powerful box.

Just check the specifications:

  • Intel Corei5, 4x 2.66+ GHz, 8 Mb L2 – FSB 1333 MHz
  • Intel SSD X25-M 2x 80 GB – SATA2
  • 8 GB DDR3
  • Gbit Etherner NIC

Yes, this is Quad core with 2 SDD drives. I completed the transfer few hours ago and so far it looks amazing – this server is way more powerful than other 2 we had until now. The load went almost immediatelly from 20-30 to values as 0.5-2 and there is still plenty of free RAM.

As with every server upgrade, it’s possible there will be some bugs, but right now it seems to work pretty fine. If you find some problem, feel free to post it in the comments. Let’s hope this solution will make the site rock stable again!

Yay finally a good computer. Good going guys and gals :)

But FYI, the CPU you have does not use 133MHz fsb speed. It uses a quick path interconnect like the ones AMD has been using for a while now, only faster. Those solid state drives will help immensely with serving the web pages to everyone, more than any other part of the computer.

If you ever need to upgrade again, I would just put another SSD in it.

@19 the page load times and comments are loading fast as hell…almost too fast i still think im dreaming load times priovously would be the worst on any site i have ever visited

best site on the internet, so happy u guys got a new server. Long live http://WWW.RLSLOG.NET

  27. November 23rd, 2009 | 17:56

@23: we already sorted out this issue and banned the editor who was changing the links.

we are constantly working on banning spammers and websites they use, but there is simply infinite number of proxies and redirect sites so this can’t be easily fixed.

    November 23rd, 2009 | 18:09

@27 Martin, you’ll prob never defeat spammers, bad links etc, but you could look into something like the little “staff” logo at the side of staff comments, giving a logo to trusted linkers, would take a bit of work to find the trusted ones, but in the end ppl would only dload from the trusted commenters and the others would lose interest. Just a thought, but keep up the good work anyway, great site with great posts.

    @27 Martin

What you could do is make people register (and confirm) an email address, make people wait 7 days before they are allowed to make their first post and have a way to downrank/uprank users, similar to engadget. That would kill the majority of spammers overnight.

I wonder why you haven’t started doing you own software that would serve from parallel servers?

Is it cheaper to always go for a new expensive server than just to add another one? IDK, I’m just thinking in price:performance ratio here.

Still, it’s nice to see some improvement.

Congrats on the new server but dudes it took you TOO LONG for the love of God!

How could the previous server be running at 20-30% load and me not being able to log on 90% of the times I tryed?

Have you checked with your ISP? Maybe there is a problem there too?

Anyway, you should keep a closer eye to the missed connections. True, the site runs fine now, but last time I said that, it lasted a couple of days.

  92. Factory
    November 24th, 2009 | 00:12

@90 ..Ok i will explain why there wont be a trusted user base ..as refered to in posts 29, 17…. the admin that posts the links to his own downloads to hotfile or storageto gets paid to do so , like every 2000 downloads he gets 10 bux or somethin along those lines…

NOW u think for a second he would be gettin as much downloads to his links if theres a “trusted user group” …if anything he welcomes the spam links makes the user click his more so , now u know why fake links and spam (paid also ) links never get removed..u gotta think in different angles in todays world..

learn from sites like “one link moviez dot com”
they offer single links and they do it fast
    no fakes

why wait for people to upload when you can do so yourselves? you have enough editors.

  97. fed up
    November 24th, 2009 | 00:45

All I gota say is I hope this fixes all the freaking problems this site has. RSLOG use to be one of the better sites for getting stuff now tho 3/4 of the time it wont load and the site never updates. I’ll give it a few more attempts to see if it improved any.

@92…here the big kicker … rlslog gets on average 300,000 impressions per post multiply that by 30 posts daily u can start to imagine the money that is paid to him , he has no reason to get a user group that post verified links..
