Yahoo adds new features for webmail
US Internet titan Yahoo on Monday is introducing an upgraded free e-mail service with enhancements that include letting people send text messages from computers to mobile telephones. The improved Yahoo! Mail being rolled out around the world in the coming weeks is the most extensive overhaul of the web-based e-mail service since it was launched a decade ago. Because the text messaging feature depends on cooperation of mobile phone service providers its debuts are limited for now to India, Canada, the Philippines and the United States.
Yahoo doesn’t charge for sending or receiving text messages, but mobile telephone users may be charged fees by carriers that provide their services. Yahoo is making its upgraded service available to the more than 250 million users of its e-mail as it competes with rivals Google and Microsoft for “eye balls” that can be parlayed into advertising revenues. Improvements include making the service faster and enabling users to have instant message conversations with people using Microsoft’s Windows Live Messenger service. Yahoo will continue to offer its old e-mail platform, dubbed “Classic,” for those that don’t want to switch to the new program, Kremer said. Still, I’m quite sure I’ll stay with my Gmail account…

This isn’t that big of a change, considering you can send messages to people on Windows live and send text messages from inside Yahoo Messenger…And they’ve offered that for some time now.
Like you, I’ll stay with Gmail and GrandCentral (also from google) They are actually coding right now the integration of GrandCentral within Gmail.. so It’s just of matter of time.

i am sure i will go with yahoooo fuck gmail and i am using hotmail. LIVEEEEEEEEEEEE
most people in Romania use Yahoo Messenger at home and at work. i am one of them. my Google Account is used at maximum, except for the Google Talk because none of my friends or colleagues want to use it. very few new subscribers will use Talk because all the people that they know use Y!mess.
with this new feature (sms sending) even more will join Yahoo.
also i imagine that someone will reverse engineer this feature and be able to send SMS’s without using Yahoo software (only their servers) … hell … i’d do it
in Romania Yahoo messenger is the only messenger service that is widely knowned… although you get that stupid MS.MSGR… if you walk up to a kid in the streed and ask him about “MESS” he will know what your talking about ^^
about the new service… that’s quite cool… i have yahoo.go! on my s60 mobile… and i use it quite alot..more than SMS’s….
i’m also waiting for the goddammed “Windows Vista Yahoo Messenger !”
oh… i forgot… i hope it’s free of charge !!! i have a phone on each phone company’s in Romania… Vodafone , Orange , Cosmote… and… the only one not chargin me for Y!GO is ORANGE… so… i hope this service will be free…atleast for receiveing them…
There are still issues sending to AOhell accounts from Yahoo. I’ll stick with GMail
