XChat v2.8.5e-DVT

Hi everyone! This is a program similar to the famous mIRC from active group DVT, bringing us XChat v2.5.5e. If you’ve ever use IRC before you will most likely know what XChat is. If you don’t, XChat is the second most popular IRC client after mIRC. Crack is naturally included. According to the DVT NFO this version of XChat was released exclusively for members of the release scene.

XChat is an IRC chat program for both Linux and Windows. It allows you to join multiple IRC channels (chat rooms) at the same time, talk publicly, private one-on-one conversations etc. Even file transfers are possible.

Released exclusively for members of the release scene?

No way would I want to touch something like that. ;)

If its exclusive to the members of the release scene, it shouldn’t be here :P

The “release scene” is filled with people taking everything and making it public. I’m not complaining!

c’mon… Xchat is linux software, and should be open source. Charging for windows version is pure garbage… i’d rather stick to a free alternative, this is a shame for an open source community worldwide.

Atlas, it’s true that the Linux version is free, but the devs said that developing for Windows is a lot more demanding, etc.

Never understood the attraction to IRC. UGLY text only basic chat service for geeks who don’t like interfaces that work in an elegant fashion.

lol. they only charge for windows versions. But you can compile it from source…

15. Drazen
March 15th, 2008 | 00:38

Its open source but is not free , you can use it free if you can compile it under windows :)
Tho it can be found online for free compiled by other people under windows. Realy fuzzy confusing licencing.

the source code is free
he is just selling the windows binary (he could also sell the linux binaries, the gpl doesn’t force anyone to give for free the compiled version, just the source code)
you can find a free compiled version of xchat here http://www.silverex.org/news/

Lol @ #13. Go use your “elegant” Kazaa/p2p crap. Irc is for far more than just chatting (unless of course ur a n00b that doesnt know how to use it).

for their web site

Q. Why can’t XChat for Windows be free?
A. It’s free to try for the first 30 days! Building XChat for Windows is a difficult process, it requires quite some skill and expertise to accomplish. It takes time, and is by no means automated. This version also has some value added features only for Windows, such as opening irc:// URLs from your web browser in an existing instance of xchat, spell checking and graphical emoticons.

@26 fyi pseudo protocols like irc:// require only one new key entry in registry, respectively a line in opera or firefox config file, this can and should be done by the installer of the app. i am a wannabe smartass ;) BONG

X-chat,I never heard of it till now.
In fact if it hadnt appeared on Rlslog,i would have thought it as a adult chat program.

RLSLOG has gone to shat. I count at least 10 Scene releases that came out today that are nowhere to be found……instead we get posts on BS P2P CD rips and another Anne Frank movie. Time to find another Source for good Scene info I guess. This site had….excuse me, has a lot of potential, I just hope that potential didn’t leave with the admins who left recently.

anybody bother to run avg on this

Threat detected on xchat.exe
Win32/PolyCrypt virus

Just a word of advice whenever you download any app just run a check on it b4 installing it

AVG is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard… it has more false positives than anything.

Use something like virustotal or jottis virus scan and it will use multiple scanners to give you a better picture.

grab a clue. X-CHAT IS OPEN SOURCE. IT’S GPL. A crack? I’m sure that was hard to create with the source code available.

Duh.

FAIL.

Kennii, you must be somewhat new to all this scene stuff.
As a staff memeber of such site, you should know that this BS

Released on 03/14/08 for exclusive usage by
members of the release scene. This isnt something
to share with your school mates and not for sale.
Go and ask mommy to buy this app if you like it!

is in all of the DvT nfo’s, as all scene rls’s are supposed to be exclusive only for scene affiliated ppl.

First strike i’d say.. :]

in5ane (#23), don’t be a childish ass. Who ever said anything about p2p you damned muppet.

A 8 year old can figure out how to use IRC and download with it. The point being is the IRC is for Uber-geeks who stubbornly refuse to move into the future. I feel like it is 1985 when using IRC.

Yes, we get it. You like feeling that you are special because IRC is “no frills” and you can play channel Op and kick people. We get it nerd.

xchat is free and open source, so what the hell is the ‘crack’ doing?

48. Mugi
March 15th, 2008 | 13:25

Sounds like a big pile of virus here, nothing more, wouldn’t be to suprising either, don’t tutch it anyway as X-Chat is free.

Secondly I hate X-chat, you can eg only have one window viewable at a time… verry horrible application to chat in due that.

49. Blaenk Denum
March 16th, 2008 | 07:49

@48 (Mr Right): You’re the childish ass. IRC is a whole different protocol, it’s like HTTP for web sites. You can chat, do file transfers, and many other things. Most scene groups communicate using IRC. IRC isn’t solely for one thing, you can use it to get help with virtually any topic, to just chat, keep updated with news, join private scrimmages in certain games such as UT3, and much more. But yeah do us a favor and don’t use it, we don’t need pricks like you. Ignorance is bliss. The only reason you think it’s 1985 is because you have seen a client such as mIRC and how it looks very primitive, that’s it, your only complaint seems to be with the client. There’s nothing 1985ish about a medium of communication such as IRC. What other protocol or medium allows thousands of users to communicate instantly? Instant Messaging clients are meant for one on one or a few group conversations. Forums aren’t instant.
