Xbox Live allows voters to register for U.S. election

In further proof that the gaming industry is increasingly becoming a part of everyday society, Xbox 360 owners in the U.S. are being given the opportunity to register to vote in their upcoming presidential election via the Xbox Live online service. Rock the Vote, a non-government organisation established to engage youth in the political process, has teamed up with Microsoft to develop an initiative that allows Xbox 360 gamers to register to vote, take part in polls and voice their opinions to candidates via online forums. While the service became available on Monday August 25, registered voters will still be required to attend a polling booth on election day.

‘Xbox is a natural partner to help us reach out to youth voters,’ said Heather Smith, executive director, Rock the Vote. ‘To realize our goal of registering 2 million young Americans by this fall, we need to go where young Americans are, and there’s no doubt in our minds that many are on Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE.’ Whether the service will be widely utilised remains to be seen but if it does take-off, the potential implications for politics and society generally are promising.

I will vote now… Vote Obama unless you want another Clinton(much less a woman) and if you like US soldiers dying over seas vote McCain… the US is sick of idiots. please vote for the only president that will make changes to our corrupt country

“change” can still be bad, don’t think its a silver bullet just because its not the same face. 2 parties, just as evil as the other.

how are you going to prove that this vote came from an 18 year old unless it has some form of validation?

This has to be one of the dumbest ideas ever as this can be hacked and either party can use this to “pad the ballot” making sure they win

  5. Vote For McCain

It seems that some people don’t understand. You DO NOT vote on the Xbox 360. You just sign up. So when you do go to vote they’ll see a valid form of I.D. to prove that your 18.

I think it’s a great idea. It’s easier for me to fill something out on Live then it is for me to fill out a form and have to drop it off in the mail.

this is a good idea, youth nowadays are too lazy to get out of the house, unless it involves social gatherings or shopping

I’m not a citizen but will register and vote again anyway. Not the first time for me. They are making it easier to do this.
I will vote for Obama because he will help us take over America for Mexico by letting us come here in larger numbers. Viva la raza!
