Xbox 360 dominated Holiday sales
A little surprising news came from the United States. I personally thought that Nintendo Wii will dominate this Holiday Season, but the marketing of Microsoft was probably stronger: Market Analyst, NPD, has released preliminary estimates for sales of Gen-Next video gaming consoles through the 2006 holiday season. As per these estimates, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was the best selling game console in the US – through the holiday shopping season from November till December 25, 2006. Nearly 2 million Xbox 360 consoles were sold in North America during this period. Coming in a close second was Nintendo’s Wii, which sold around 1.8 million units through the holiday season.
On the other hand, that’s also pretty good number for Wii – considering that the Wii was launched not before November 19, which means that the sales figures are quite impressive for Nintendo. Sony’s PlayStation 3, which launched on November 17, came in a distant third, with approximately only 750,000 units sold from November through Christmas day. While lack of supply is being cited as the primary reason for Sony’s poor performance, it would be well to point out that both the Wii and the PS3 were difficult to find through the holiday season. And, Microsoft more than made up for these shortfalls. At any given point of time, there were more Xbox 360 consoles on store shelves than there were Wiis or PS3s available. But I’m sure this month will enter into history as the month dominated by Wii…

It wasn’t the difficulty of finding a Wii that hindered their sales, it was the fact that the 360 has got all of the best games available and the Wii has got very very few games even worth looking at

I just can’t see what you can have against sony, microsoft or nintendo(maybe that it’s been a bid kidlike). Most people give arguments like: they are liars, they are money thieving bastards, they steal ideas from others!Isn’t every industry based on using someone else’s ideas and trying to make them better?!?
Well people can flame the companys as much as they want but they will still be richer and do you actually think they (ALL OF THEM) give a shit about our poor asses!
The PS3 haters are rampant and who honestly can blame them. Your PS3 cash buys one Xbox 360 and one Wii. I’d gladly trade one box of semi fun for two boxes of fun.

The 360 and Wii certainly fall in to the fun category. The PS3’s price and the fact it doesn’t do much more than a 360 (gave or take blu-ray, which you don’t need) is it’s ultimate downfall.
One thing is sure, people will find a way to favour one console over another or inflame the notion that all consoles are nonsense.
piracy, piracy, piracy…..in this day and age all i give a shit about is the fact that A, it can/has/will be hacked and the games will be available freely online the only other problem i have is how to merge them all into my very own personal Wiistation 360 :p

Jeez nobody was having a go at Sony. We all know they are the electronic knigs and all that. Just suprising they decided to bring their console out that late, that is all everyone is saying. And in all fairness they should know better eh?

the ones that telling us that it was no problem to get the hand on a wii didnt live in sweden, on the first day it released it was out of stock. i pree booked, i put up a tent outside the game store. and still i didnt get one. but now i got mine
boght it yesterday. som of the people that did get they hans on one did try to sell them for a big overprice, like 9000Swe Kr thats like 800$ :S

But at least it was clarified. I kind of thought for the 360 to dominate sales almost a year after it’s release would have been astounding.

That correction that Neptune posted showed that these numbers are pretty irrelevant, so why the hell are people still arguing? No kidding the PS3 didn’t sell the most, even if the numbers had been correct, availability is hugely limited. The Wii was supposedly limited availability, but they weren’t that hard to find if you were in or near a major city. Is anyone surprised by these numbers? What I’d like to see are the PS2 numbers, which from what I heard were pretty high since the PS3 wasn’t available and is backwards compatible (the 360 really needs to get that together).
Well yeah.. lets compare Xbox sales with ps2 sales.
All xbox360 owners do think they have a cheap console LOL.
But if you want all the extras the PS3 have, you will pay the same. Like the wiFi adapter, the wireless controller, STUPID battery packs,the HD-DVD-addon, Paying to play online !..
All of those things keeps me from buying a Xbox360.

i do own a ps1(modchip) ps2(modchip) psp(3.02 cracked firmware -> can play all ps1 games) and i really don´t see any point why i wouldn´t like any of them .. so basically i expect the same from the ps3 i will own when its released in europe ..
never liked the xbox (halo was never that great sorry), and i haven´t seen a lot of games that i like on the xbox360 that are not supposed to be released for the ps3 ..
imo the wii is only fun if you have a group of people .. but then its indeed a lot of fun
only thing i like about the xbox are those xbox girls that do the promotion ;p
I really can’t wait to buy a PS3 to play… a GT HD Demo.. (cough GT4 @1080p cough)… the console has like 1 good game on it Resistance.. no rumble support = lol.
Also stealing Nintendo’s motion-sensing technology (at the absolute last minute) was truly Pro too.
