X Plane 9-AVENGED
I’d like to officially introduce probably the biggest game ever published. X Plane 9 is a simulator, which beats anything released so far including a super popular Microsoft Flight Simulator: this super realistic game spreads over 6 DVDs and install size is almost 60 GB! Luckily for you, the basic installation has “only” something over 6 gigs, the rest is additional material and extra graphic, but you don’t really need this for trying the game out. X Plane 9 contains no protection at all which is little surprising, but at least you won’t have to hassle with cracks.

X-plane is very well reviewed and is a lot more in depth than Flight sim X is.
Xplane offers a lot more material for those that are really into planes and flying. I would say worth it.
Any indications about loading times? LOL.
60 GB is OK, rather than a 10 GB min install with DVD swapping LOL
X-plane 8 which came out around the same time MS Flight Sim x came out, knocked it’s socks of. You can’t compare MS Flight Sim to this. There’s more detail in this program and X-Plane 8 then there ever will be in MS. You really need to visit http://www.x-plane.com/ to really get a feel of how much more detail is in this than any other flight sim to date.
Expect the manual to be huge, and are there any cheats in this game?
Looks great. I’m not really into Flight sims though. It’s probably smart of them to leave it unprotected since most people with slower connections won’t download it all anyway. I would be okay downloading 60 GB (about 1.5 hours) but the 13 days or so on 0.5 MBit/s would really turn me off and probably many more.
This is probably a much more effective way to decrease piracy than copy protections (as long as it’s useful data of course, since it would just be removed by the groups otherwise).

@kup-it: It’s one of the best (free) flight sims out there. Take a look at the website and read how accurate this thing is. Microsoft’s FSX are pretty good, but compared to this one they are action-games

This is the full DVD9-Version, including quite enough to kick Microsoft’s baby out of the way. You need a bigger HDD if you wanna install FSX with every add-on.
X-Plane kicks the hell out of MS’s try’s at flight sim’s.. This is the best.. Always wanted to play it but was always huge amount of ISO. 30 gigs.

I had X plane 7.0 when it first came out around 4 or 5 years ago, and one thing that I loved about it was how flexible the program was, I mean, you were allowed to customize your planes in a way so unrealistic that it was insane. I was fixing B-52
with rocket engines instead of it’s original 8 turbojet ones.
That is one thing that FS9 or FSX will not let you do by itself alone.
i miss my good old fun combat flight simulators since microprose is gone. there arent even any worthy action pseudo flight simulators out there like strike commander. those were the good old days for simulations.

lol… 60 Gigas… but I must say, the screenshot with the amphibian firesquad airplane (Grumman or some’um) looks pretty dandy. I just installed FS2004 again, and it looks crap compared to this. Real flightsimmers use Xplane neways cause they can mod n tweak it theirselves. Im doing a real typerating Bomardier CRJ, maybe they should enhance the simulator here in Berlin with the software ey.
this game has been around for years, it used to be free online and they constantly add to it and let users create addons. it’s very well known to flight sim fans, think of it what linux is to xp or vista, an alternative, and some say better sim than ms flight simulator because it’s more geared to die hards and game addicts who like to tweak things.
X-Plane is the best flight sim available, period.

Great flightsim with good value for the money,unprecented freedom to tweak and create, superb physics engine and cross platform code, if you like this sim its a shame not to pay and support the team behind it.

it’s only $79, so if someone into f.sims, it’s worth it. 6 DL DVDs her mein sieze.
I’ve followed this program on and off for the past few years. They have done some incredible things with it. This program is used to train people not only how to fly, but how to deal with problems that can happen in-flight. If you can do well with this program, you can probably fly a real plane.

X-Plane, when used with the correct simulator controls/hardware, is actually FAA-certified for flight instruction. MS Flight Sim couldn’t even dream of such an endorsement.
That alone should make it obvious how X-Plane is just an entire other level from any other flight sim out there. Everything else is just a toy in comparison.

All links are good…..if you get a corruption message it will indicate that the password may also be bad on the next file. Unfortunately, you will have to download that one file that shows being corrupted.
Also, this games has great graphics, but it’s really a pain the butt to configure. The actual airplane graphics are really poor compared to Flight Simm X.

I have the same problem with installin on Vista “Please insert and x-planes 9 DVD to begin”. Should I write this to dvd? It does not fit. Should I make a virtual DVD or something?

You’ll need a virtual mount, or just burn it do a Dual Layer DVD.

It is supposed to be a good game but i will never find out i bought the game yesterday and spent all day trying to install it from 11 o clock in the morning to 10 pm and it olny showed me one part of the united states every thing else looked like water it said i have installed the united states with disk 1 insert disk 2 and press continue and nothing happened with disk 2.

Just thought I would throw my three cents worth of X-Plane history in. X-Plane uses “blade element theory” or a numerical integration technique to generate their aerodynamic forces. FS uses a basic formula model mostly based on averages. The “blade element theory” method generates very accurate data but requires more computational cycles — or put another way generally requires more computing power. PC’s are so fast now, that computational cycles are not as critical as they once were. In the beginning Microsoft had the superior graphics and X-Plane’s graphics were poor. With versions 7.x and later, X-Plane has closed the graphics gap. Also FS had the superior design tools, but again X-Plane has just about caught up to FS. Microsoft canceled their FS product last year when new leadership came in (Bill Gates left the company for others to manage/lead) and they eliminated the FS product even though the product was making money. X-Plane has just about caught up in every category and was nose to nose with uSoft when the FS product was canceled. I am hearing rumors that uSoft is hiring back some of the FS software engineers which could signify the FS product is coming back. Most FS uses are loyal and will not take the time to learn X-Plane due to having too many hours invested in FS. So in summary, do not believe all the bad hype that the FS users are promulgating; X-Plane is an excellent product and is getting better all the time. When X-Plane first came out the product cost just under $300 which explains why the Navy and NASA were some of the companies that could afford to buy X-Plane — most gamers and casual users could not afford X-Plane. However, with the price now being $29 you are getting a certified bargain! And no, I do not work for X-Plane but was the technical lead for one of the Navy’s simulation programs which used FS. We evaluated an early version of X-Plane which did not meet our needs, but as the X-Plane product got better and better we were looking forward to possibly converting our project to X-Plane, but our program was canceled due to budget cuts caused by the various Gulf Wars and myopic program managers that mostly did not have any computer skills at all. X-Plane has evolved remarkably over the last 10 yrs and I expect will be the simulation product of choice.
As far as I know, X-Plane will only work with Disk 1 in the DVD and w/o Disc 1 in the drive will only work for 10 minutes before restrictions come into play. This is for Version 9.x.

Austin Meyer originally come up with the concept of X-Plane and was a one man show during the formative years. The company behind the scene is Laminar Research. Now portions of the program; e.g. graphics, are sub-contracted out. I have talked to Austin a couple of times as I have called X-Plane with some technical questions and he actually answered the phone! I doubt that would occur now, but the product is growing in quality and the price is right — Enjoy.
