MMMM could be just what I'm looking for.
But does it stream directly over the LAN or does it go through the internet. I had a prog before which claimed to do what this can do but it streamed over the net = poor quality.
    Any links?

Can this be burnt to a cd? or does it have to be DVD? I don't care either way but would just like a little bit of knowledge.

Firstly let me say i love RLSLOG.net and all the imitators can not compare…

Back to this post, it is nice to see this functionality make it to the Wii :O)

Please i am not a pro so i might be totally off but,

@3 – I do not think that you are totally correct. It is true that you can access files from an XBOX360 but that can only be done in a couple of ways, so the XBOX does need help to accomplish this…and it can not be done on its own

Option 1) Through Windows Media Center: With an XBOX360 you can connect to an vista / windows 7 / windows xp media center edition but only have access to a limited codec (no support for xvid/divx only WMV) in my mind useless unless you are only looking for music and pics support

Option 2) You can use a similar application to the one above for the Wii…there are a lot of them out there…but the one that I found works the best is Tversity (beta RC6)

Here is a nice list of other options out there:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_center

@2 – I think that you are referring to an application like Orb (beta) which I think is the best solution for remote access to your movie collection but does not stream to any console without transcoding the file which causes loss in quality…and a lot of resourced.

Option 3) Windows Media Player: You can also enable sharing with windows media and the list should show up on the XBOX360 but I think that it is a little quirky compared to Tversity which is too nice in my minds…

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated…

so how do it work concretely? I never used this type of appz.
I run this on my cracked Wii and I can play any video that is on my computer through internet connection? can it play HD movies correctly with no lagging? Does it launch the video on my PC and then streams it on the Wii? (my PC can't play 1080p videos smoothly that's why I wonder).

@11 Thanks for the info about the CD compatibility! I had a few things burnt on cd and was having no luck with them and thought it was the quality of the media all this time. I have my wii modded with a wiikey and also have the new softmod for it.

Its not bad… not as good as the Xbox360… but not bad.

The only ones it can't do straight off is high def h.264 rips, but running them through a program redoes the audio and renames it mp4.

@Rasta321 the most easiest way to play movies off the PC from the Xbox 360 is to update your windows media canter put in windows media player 11 and share the files under windows media player 11 . I have windows xp media center 2002 and i have it running everything with no problems.
so it is possible to get Xbox 360 to run movies from the computer with very outside programming.

Why the heck does a Wii ISO have pc reqs?

  43. WANG
    January 13th, 2009 | 05:05

@43 – Because it's not a Wii ISO. It's an application that you install on your PC to use with a Wii via its Opera browser.

i unrar the files from rapidshare and get a bunch of files named pnt-mw19.001 all the way to .009 and then a .sfv file. how do i burn this as im not good with mounting?

  45. Rumpleforeskin
    January 13th, 2009 | 07:45

Unrar the pnt-mw19.001 file (actually you could start with any of the numbered files) and this will give you 2 files named pnt-mw19.bin and pnt-mw19.cue which contain the disc image. You could mount these and install from your HD or since you're "not good with mounting", you could do what I do which is to burn them directly to a CD using IMGBURN (freeware). That way, I can install it easily on other computers.

was there a server roll back?

  48. Anonymouse
    January 13th, 2009 | 08:06

    To End Confusion:

This program is simply a small webserver and app for your PC. The App transcodes your videos into a flash video (.flv) playable on the wii and the webserver serves up a page with the video embeded.

There is NOTHING to install on your wii, you simply use the Opera browser from the Wii Store to view the page being served up by your PC.

As this is transcoding to flash video, the quality will be terrible (think YouTube quality) and you'll have to have a reasonably fast PC to transcode the videos on-the-fly.

All in all, a waste of time unless you ONLY have a Wii and want to watch Videos on the big screen.

If you have a Modded Xbox, Modded Wii, Xbox360, PS3 or HTPC – this is a waste of time and effort for you – all the above already have much better ways of playing video than this.

  49. johan
    January 13th, 2009 | 08:24

    @49

did you try it for yourself? are you sure it's just hosted FLVs?

From the screenshots, it appears that it's more of an app than a webpage.

I think the webpage is to provide a link to access from the Wii's Opera that will install a channel that will stream files from your PC or SD card (like the Movie on Wii app from the same company).

  57. Armstrong14
    January 14th, 2009 | 06:52

Ok… Where is the torrent file? Not on Newtorrents, and where is the patch when you download the RS links? I got the disc image but there's no crack or patch on it. Does that mean it's already patched or what?

  58. yep
    January 14th, 2009 | 13:47

@Armstrong14 dunno if it's patched or not but it's "working" like that…

Anyway, this program seems to have some issues with folders. After waiting a long time to update my "video library" in the program, I can't see my folders correctly. Some are there, others you see in a flash then they disappear…
Also, all files seems to have been recognized but to display them I have to push the "-" key, and they are not even in alphabetical order (I tried by name and by year but it doesn't change anything).
When you read a video it literally streams from your computer resulting in a crappy pixelised image (like on youtube) and the video lag (I guess it depends on the connection of course).

Alan, you were saying "better solutions" ? Please provide me one ! thank you :)

  59. kodabar
    January 14th, 2009 | 18:44

I've had a good look at this issue of playing video on the Wii and the answers are all unsatisfactory.

I tried this, TVersity and Orb. They're all much of a muchness. They stream video from your PC to your Wii via Wifi. You need a WLAN set up already. If your Wii and your PC are just connecting to the internet through a router, then you don't have a WLAN. You need to set one up. If you have a WLAN, this works okay. You just point your Wii browser to a port on your PC and it connects to the media server that's running (which is all these apps really are).

Orb works slighty differently, but in much the same manner. You install Orb on your PC and it indexes your files and then streams them to the Orb servers via the internet and then down to your Wii again via the internet. It's a tremendously inefficient way of moving video a few yards, but it works. Your friends can watch it too, but only if you like your internet connection maxed out all the time.

There is a move to create a Media Centre version of Linux to run on the Wii, but this isn't ready yet. With that you'll pop a Linux disc into your Wii, boot it up and then be able to play media off an external hard drive or similar device. But it doesn't work yet. It's not so hard a concept to program when you consider that there's already a Gamecube version of Linux.

The Wii can play video without any of this, but only if you transcode (ie convert) your files into Motion JPEG format. This is a terrible format, but the only one the Wii supports natively. Unfortunately, the biggest SD card you can stick in your Wii is 2GB and, after transcoding, that's about enough for 90 minutes of video. So you won't be watching Lord of the Rings that way.

So, I'll be waiting for Wii Linux.
