Words From The City PDTV XviD-WPi

The guys missed this one yesterday, and I have been looking forward to seeing this so I thought I would post it. In short, this is about the rise of Australian Hip-hop, and its culture in Australia, and the world. It has a rating of 7.1/10, but has only had 10 votes (not bad considering it only get released yesterday in Australia). I’ll let you make your own mind up about this one!

Words from the City is a feature documentary exploring Australian hip hop through intimate and candid observations of some of the nation’s most potent and compelling MCs.
Focusing on the unique lyrical and verbal artistry of the form, the film follows a diverse range of artists from around the country, including Wire MC, Hilltop Hoods, Downsyde, Layla, Koolism, Bliss N Eso, Maya Jupiter, TZU and MC Trey. From social and political rage to personal and cultural storytelling, from laneways and parks to festivals and nightclubs, the film explores the diverse environments that shape these artists and their urge to make their voices heard.

Filmed across one long hot summer against the backdrop of an increasingly conservative mainstream, Words from the City follows the daily lives of these artists at the vanguard of Australian hip hop, a movement that is exploding onto the musical landscape as one of our most powerful and energetic creative forms.

As the saying goes “May you get a plague of redbacks in your dunny” – Australians will underestand.

The Hoods are Adelaidians – yeh!!!! (and ain’t that unbelievable – from the ‘City of Churches’ (also the serial killer capital of Australia))

there is nothing funnier than strines whining ‘yes, we do have culture, mate’
unless it is their bathetic attempts to prove it by allusions to crocodile dundee or quoting gibberish dialect

quaint, yes. amusing, if you are drunk [ie australian].
    culture, no

don’t fret aussies, californians are no better

Australian hip hip. baah, Australian sheep shaggers more like.

    December 13th, 2007 | 03:22

Yo Londe I think your confusing us with New Zealanders, we don’t shag sheep like they do! Also whats Australian HIP HIP, sounds like a sick new music genre, LOSER!!! How about you get a clue mate!! Aydin you also have no idea. Gibberish dialect HAHA oh my god…..the only gibberish here is that crappy thing you have tried to string together called a paragraph. Oh and culture well heres a quick dictonary leason on the word………The totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought. SO im guessing that means we have a culture even if your great opinion on the world of hip hop doesn’t think so!!!
Movie comes out tomorrow go buy it!!

great film, and a rich local scene, rockin raps and beats.

re: the whole ‘what is/ is there oz culture’ thing – that debate was so last decade. oz hiphop, oz street art, oz design, oz fashion, oz rock, oz indie, oz writing, its all rockin.

if your dissing it, its because you don’t get out enough.

thanks step for that example of what strines consider a ‘dictionary’

i suppose down there ‘your’ is used exclusively instead of the ‘you’re’ that people who speak traditional english use wwhen they mean ‘you are’.

just like i suppose you are telling us that there is no difference between ‘heres’ and ‘here’s’. fyi the latter is what you are searching for

indeed, who needs new york, london, paris, hong kong, tokyo or los angeles when we have the cultural mecca of melbourne.

i have to wonder, if oz is such a paradise, how come everyone leaves? you only have to go to earl’s court in london to see the cesspool which has been unleashed on europe by these cultured citizens of the antipodes.

final and conclusive comment on stine ‘culture’
posted today by one of the admins of this site!

” The first thing I have to say about this movie is it is a Australian film and since I’ve been living in Australia a while now i can tell you Australian films suck even the Aussies will tell you they suck. If you haven’t seen a Australian film before get this release so you can find out for yourself that Australian Films suck. Note: This view has been based on past experience of living in Australia and hearing Australian views.”
