Larry just isnt funny. He has a few decent lines and some parts of his movies were OK but I just dont see him sticking around. Having a slogan like Get er done will only get you so far and last for so long.

I really changed my views on him when I saw his original acts and he was a clean cut, whiny sounding, unfunny stand up. I find it strange he keeps that Larry act even off stage-for years now. He has to know once the base of his fans know he really grew up a rich spoiled brat that his act would lose its spunk. Just sayin’.

Well said #66..if the The Jerk (1979)was released today ,just imagine the racist comments the reviewers would attach to this classic comedy. Thats right comedy..Stupid stuff that makes us laugh.No need to over analyze the plot or characters ..just sit back and enjoy. Larry will never be no Steve Martin, John Belushi,Chris Farley or John Candy but the premise is universal..Comedy is an escape from reality ..Characters are put in unrealistic situations with plots and storylines to match..Dumb and Dumber with a 7.0 IMDB rating is a classic…
Larry is a stupid character …He and Jenny cant act to save thier lives ..thats whats funny..

Larry the Cable Guy, Redneck Nonpareil. But what grabbed my attention about Witless Protection even before I saw it was the schadenfreude and scapegoating that greeted this movie’s release. Commentators on its IMDb message board brag about not having seen it, while competing for how low they can rate the movie. They disparage as mental defectives, rednecks, infants and senile anyone who could like a Larry the Cable Guy movie, complain that it “ridicules other cultures,” revel in its bad opening weekend as proof of their critical acumen, and express heartfelt wishes that anyone associated with this movie’s production are unemployed in the future.

I think this is more than the usual Internet sniping. Whether Witless Protection was a good movie became beside the point for me. This sort of spiraling reaction to an entertainment – written in echoes Orwell described as duckspeak – scares the crap out of me as a harbinger of a totalitarianism where conformity is mandatory and laughter is permissible only by an approved class. Comedy is the canary-in-the-coal-mine of a free society. When it becomes politically dangerous to laugh, we’re in more peril than anyone can usually imagine. If there’s anything political about this movie, it’s hard for me to figure out why it would be more offensive on the left than the right. Its comedy targets are the same as Michael Moore’s – the overzealousness of Homeland Security, corruption in the federal government and corruption in big business. Witless Protection could even get some brownie points from PETA for Larry the Cable Guy’s kindness to animals. It also strikes me that if Larry the Cable Guy were black, he’d have the same audience as Martin Lawrence. As a member of the WGA, I got most of this past season’s critically acclaimed movies as free screeners. I found a large number of them tediously naturalistic and tendentiously nihilistic. As an act of what used to be called a liberal sensibility, perhaps best expressed by the comedy stylings of Lenny Bruce – and out of a sense that a movie should be judged not by its trailer but by sitting through it all the way – I paid cash to see Witless Protection. You should, too. I don’t know precisely who gets pissed off when movies made for ordinary Americans find an audience, but I’m pretty sure I want them to be.

Witless Protection is the most funny and surprisingly smart comedy to come out of Hollywood in some time. Liberals will hate this movie, since there are some subtle jabs at the whole culture of modern liberalism. but for the rest of us, it’s an extremely enjoyable flick.
