Does anyone still use win zip ?

    @1

    Nope

Seeing as Windows XP (and later OSs) supports Zip files natively
(as do both Mac OS X [via Unarchiver] and *n*x)

If you want a tool to 'zip' something, WinRAR or Izarc are the best tools.

    eeeeh…7zip anyone?!

    May 13th, 2009 | 22:45

7-zip is all I use. 7z is such a better compression format.

    @ Bitter
Usefull tools, but as "Knows" says 7zip is the best. It has the best compression format and it supports zip/rar as well as many other formats. Oh and did I forget to mention its free?

Once again people start the discussion Winrar, 7zip or something else is better. For the people that want to use winzip they probably don't care and just want to download whatever they prefer. Why not post in forums where people love the silly what is the best discussions.

Why the hell do people put Zip files in RAR files in ZIP files!! It saves about 100kb, does it really matter considering practically everyone is using broadband? Ridiculous! Please STOP IT!

good for personal archiving but otherwise 7zip sucks, so much slower at unarchiving rar and since thats 90% of stuff thats a fail

Substrata, if its scene stuff its packed that way so sites can add passthorugh idents, that cant be done with rar, but rar is used for the best compression/extract time

scene peeps only have to extract twice if your grabbing from web, 3 times

It all comes down to personal preference.

WinRar is limited to Creating Zip and RAR files,
But I fail to remember the last time (if ever) I threw a compression format at it it failed to decompress,
with the exception of certain 'split' file formats, and Blackhole archives.

    Izarc can decompress everything.
    and can create several formats.
(every format that is open, ie. not Rar as only the unrar.dll is open)
But it does an amazing job of the previously mentioned 7z format, which is a good compression logarithm, but I dislike the software.
    (WinRAR just feels cleaner)

But at the end of the day, as long as your users can decompress what ever you've sent them, it doesn't matter what software each individual uses to decompress.
    Any format is acceptable
[with the exception of HJSplit, which drives me up the wall]

well i used to prefer winrar but winzip pro supports the same things and winrar has been dieing on alot of people 5 people i know and 6 if i include me have had winrar being weird

    ie:
i got the sims 3 and tried dragging out the .iso and it wouldnt so i had to open the iso with poweriso from inside the rar and then i tried saving the iso didnt work again so i had to extract the files from the iso and rebuild the iso then it did it on several movies and other things and wouldnt extract the files luckly i had winzip pro 12 on my pc and it worked perfect for the rar's so i prefer winzip pro i used to use it before winrar and now im using it again since there is no difference except winzip works better and even allows you to veiw images like you can a folder unlike winrar js
