WinPatrol PLUS v12.0.2007.5 WinALL Regged-CHiCNCREAM

I installed this thinking it was going to be another crappy start-up program editor, with a few little extras. What I found was that this tool does exactly what it says, and does it well. It finds hidden files, BHO (and the like), as well as editing your start-up programs. I am running a bit short on time so I will leave it at that.

WinPatrol uses a heuristic behavioural approach to detecting attacks and violations of your computing environment. Traditional security programs scan your hard drive searching for previously identified threats. WinPatrol takes snapshot of your critical system resources and alerts you to any changes that may occur without your knowledge. You’ll be removing dangerous new programs while others prepare to update their definition/signature data files.

Program Features:

  • Detect and Review New Auto-Startup Programs
  • Automatically Disable Reoccuring Startup Programs
  • Real-time Infiltration Detection without slowing you down
  • Monitor IE Home and Search pages
  • Monitor, Stop and Control Window Services

This is pretty good at preventing programs from auto starting with Windows. Used it for awhile, but it tends to get annoying when the offending app keeps wanting to register itself for auto start-up. StartupMonitor and Startup Control Panel do basically the same without some of the annoyances of WinPatrol, and on top of that they’re lighter on resources.

here is an easier way to stop s#@$ from starting up

    press start >>> RUN >>>> type ” msconfig ” no quotes >>>>
hit the startup tab >>>> then simply un-check the programs you dont want to start up with windows or simply disable all

not quite jroc. if you do it like that msconfig will start everytime you start up. use the advanced settings of spybot to alter start up programs. or many other apps for that matter.

I find when I disable some programs in msconfig, they still start up? Also can’t actually delete them from start up, and msconfig gives a silly msg everytime u restart after changing something. Prefer WinPatrol tbh…

I’ve been using Winpatrol for years now and it’s a great program – proved to be a big help during a virus attack.

I have three questions about this program:

    - Is this program for XP or Vista?
    - Does this program run on 64-bit systems?
    - Does this program itself need to be among your startup programs or can you just use it once in a while?

    Thanks!

ya doesnt do nothing you cant do with windows commands, msconfig works fine that msg that pops up after you’ve used it only pops up once, if you click yes it saves your settings an it wont ask you again

    @11
you are right! always use msconfig.
just hate those programs that add themselves to autostart without asking. why can’t this be disabled.
i don’t need that autostart except for virusscanner and firewall.

Hijackthis is much better in my opinion.

As for msconfig i agree with number 5, i never use it, i just go into the registry myself and delete the key as its not hard to look in

    Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion

    in the

    HKCU
    HKLM
    HKU

    folders.

Please excuse me for being a noobie.

How do I know which programs to disable?

Are there any problems if I disable all?

While I use MSCONFIG, there are programs that seem to just have a name and be related to nothing, as well as those that you just can’t seem to guess who it belong to.

I’ll give both this and the “autoruns” atrial
