Thanks who ever made this! It's BRILLIANT!!!!!!! sorry about my last post, winzip made it look like a zip or rar file so I thought there was no iso. I then restored to a point before I started and it had the "Hide extensions for known file types" disable. I straight away saw the iso and sung praises of cheer and embaressment! :)

I CAN CONFIRM THAT THE MEDIA CENTER VERSION IS 2005!!!!!!:)
BUT THE OS VERSION SAYS 2002!!!!!!:(

Come across my next hurdle, update rollup 2. I'll find a way :)

I couldn't boot from start up although I can run CD_START.exe. Is there any way I can add the registry entries manually?

MCE TO XP INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS THAT WORKED FOR ME!

Before doing this i downloaded 'Net framework 1' and 'Net framework 1.1 SP1' from a google search to help later on

After installing windows xp

1. Boot CD drive from PC startup
"Bart PE" package loads up (takes a cpl mins)

2. Click on minimised dos window

3. The message reads "Delete tyhe registry value installed (y/n)?"
	Type "y"
	Press Enter
	Press any key

4. Boot from CD again so that "Bart PE" loads up

5. Click on minimised window

6. "Delete the reg key..."
	Click "n" this time
	Press enter

7. "X:\i386/system327regadd..."
	Click "y"
	Press enter
Reboots - take CD out so it boots to windows

8. Restarts to windows
Put CD back in (on my pc it would not read cd in the normal cd drive this time, so i put the cd in the other cd writable drive)
Open CD and click on "CD_START.exe"

RUN STEP 1
	reboot comp yourself once complete

Open CD and click on "CD_START.exe"

RUN STEP 2
	reboot comp yourself once complete
you will be prompted to search for a file, so direct it to:
	your cd drive letter/cmpnents/mediactr/i386/mediactr
	reboot comp yourself once complete
reboots then f1 to continue in dos

RUN STEP 3
	reboot comp yourself once complete

Then install 'Net framework 1' and 'Net framework 1.1 SP1'

RUN STEP 4
	reboot comp yourself once complete

SHOULD ALL WORK FINE!

This works so well, what a super idea! Just make sure to boot from the CD as step one, and boot after each step. I used on VLK corp XP - worked no problems, all settings and other programs are intact.
Vista MC has few issues (like being unable to play via the digital and analog audio output at the same time) - this require so much less PC power - and runs on your old XP without a problem. Great work

See post # 99 by Karin, that is the way to go. Tried all other solutions/suggestions but only that one worked. Just download a copy of winrar if you don't have it. Also, one correction, it's actually an "update.exe" not a "setup.exe" that you run in the final step. Other than that it worked like a charm.

How can I install MCE apps? It keeps on showing that the app can only run on Media Center OS, or something like that.

Yeh I know some people have said only xp pro and not home but I thought I would try as some people seemed to have success.

Everything installed correctly.

BUT I run into dramas with the "creating user" in the final steps of completing connection with the xbox 360. Xbox finds the pc and gives the code but as others have said, can't quite complete the xbox 360 setup.

Anyone managed to fix this issue with xp home upgrade? If not, looks like I will have to find other ways to get media center. Be a bummer as it seems so close.

I have a genuine xp pro key on the bottom of my 2nd laptop which has never been used but I don't have the xp pro disc and tried to get a disc from somewhere else but it must have been a different version as it said invalid key.

I know this is rather old, but better late than never. Assuming you were able to manually install Update Rollup 2 & you have tried all comments left in the thread but, still seem to be stuck, the only scenarios I see that haven't been covered are..

A) If your using XboxMCE05Lite-enu.exe, you will need the hotfix KB895961 installed.. otherwise the setup will ask you to uninstall & reinstall, repeat, repeat.
B) Better yet, avoid step A & install XboxMCEFULL-ENU.exe (Google for it)
C) If you get this far & receive & error shortly after connecting, create a user group called "MCRD Users" & then reattempt the XBOXMCE setup, that should do it.

Good luck!
