whats everybodys deal with vista i run crysis on very high settings with a 8800 gts 2.0 vid card and four gigs of ram. And I still gets around fifty fps with no lagging. If your having that much trouble then maybe its time to upgrade your hardware.

Before anyone tries to imply different, download this and check the code against direct x 9, you will see that except for some minor changes, the code is EXACTLY THE SAME MS CODE!!!

Pretty hard to write the exact same code for two different peorgrams unless you had the kernal and script from the original alpha from the maker.

Yes lol I know that they are the same. You dont think that other people snatch quotes or stories from different sites and use them?

I beta test for Microsoft so I should know a tiny bit about what they do. In fact my beta test supervisor jason, has stated that microsoft does indeed have a direct x 10 for windows in the alpha stage. And that is where they stopped as they do not want anyone thinking they are going to continue with this for anything below Vista. Hence this is why this link states what it does. They got a copy of the MS Alpha for direct x 10 and are trying to continue it via sort of an open source type thing.

Caveman, Very strange caveman. We have Microsoft saying two different thigs here. ON the one hand in their archives they say what I posted, and on the other they say what you posted.

Is it any wonder their stuff is so damn buggy when they cannot even make up their minds about this tiny issue?

This is quoted directly from MSDN;

"Will DirectX 10 be available for Windows XP?

No. Windows Vista, which has DirectX 10, includes an updated DirectX runtime based on the runtime in Windows XP SP2 (DirectX 9.0c) with changes to work with the new Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) and the new audio driver stack, and with other updates in the operating system. In addition to Direct3D 9, Windows Vista supports two new interfaces when the correct video hardware and drivers are present: Direct3D9Ex and Direct3D10.

Since these new interfaces rely on the WDDM technology, they will never be available on earlier versions of Windows. All the other changes made to DirectX technologies for Windows Vista are also specific to the new version of Windows. The name DirectX 10 is misleading in that many technologies shipping in the DirectX SDK (XACT, XINPUT, D3DX) are not encompassed by this version number. So, referring to the version number of the DirectX runtime as a whole has lost much of its meaning, even for 9.0c. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool (DXdiag.exe) on Windows Vista does report DirectX 10, but this really only refers to Direct3D 10."

dx 10 will never come out for xp never
-----------
And you are a twit, directly from Microsofts site
"Download DirectX 10 for windows XP is available now. You can download it as the alpha version is said to be working by some users. It is said to work for Windows XP and with directx 10 games and graphics card, they should be able to play directx 10 compatible games like they play in Microsoft’s Windows Vista.

While in Vista, the name is changed to Direct 3D and this will be the new designation for all versions of Direct after this date."

Now doofus, are you calling Microsoft a liar when they say this IS available for XP??? I mean since they made the program and their partners made Direct X, dont you think for one second that they would know what is in their released products?

@60, yeah, I took the time a few years back to learn the guts of Linux when I saw Vista on the horizon, and nowadays I even do most of my *gaming* in Linux (Kubuntu), not to mention the less vendor-locked-in tasks like downloading and browsing.

Hell, with the latest release I'm pretty sure Ubuntu has the NVIDIA drivers enabled by default; at worst they're a few clicks away (and no browsing to NVIDIA's website required or anything), and even between just XP SP2 and Linux I've noticed massive differences in the speed of games. Anyone out there that's looking warily towards Vista, I'd say download an Ubuntu or Kubuntu live CD, throw it in your drive, try it out for a few minutes at least; you might like what you see, and you'll have to do SOMETHING when Microsoft inevitably stops updating XP.
