Windows Vista SP1 to appear today?

Microsoft Corp. will release Windows Vista Service Pack (SP1) on Monday, Feb. 4, according to reports Friday from Tech ARP, a Malaysian Web site. Other sources, meanwhile, claimed that Windows Server 2008 will also reach RTM (release to manufacturing) in the coming week. Vista SP1 will make RTM on Monday, said Tech ARP, with computer makers receiving media later in the week to install the updated operating system on new laptops and desktops. Bits will also be posted for download on Monday, the site claimed. “Microsoft will be deploying SP1 in two ‘waves,’” said Tech ARP. The first, on Monday, will include just five of the 36 available language packs — English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. The second wave, slated for one to two weeks later, will include all 36 language packs.

Previously, Microsoft has said it would break SP1 into two stand-alone installers for businesses: a 450MB package that includes the five packs, and a 550MB installer that offers three-dozen languages. Both are expected to be available for download from Microsoft’s Web site. SP1 will also be offered to users through Windows Update, Microsoft Update and presumably Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). That update will weigh in at around 65MB. Microsoft explained the smaller size in a change-log posted to its support site: “Windows Update…utilizes an efficient transfer mechanism to download only the actual bytes changed.” I guess the following hours will tell us if this rumour is based on truth or not.

@100…… I want what your smokeing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote “Don’t install XP SP4. It will kill your PC.

I got word from a MS employee that SP4 performs software overclocks of all major components which can result in lower end PC kit to fry.

Vista SP2 increases performance by 33% over SP1, which means it will speed up your system even if you don’t install SP1…

The future looks promising for Vista; not so much for XP.

    February 4th, 2008 | 06:53

well its technically monday in parts of the US, and I still see no update on MSUD. I hope it comes out soon- fix this broken OS and to 110, you obviously dont play games that use DX10…anyhow I just enable classic mode, turn off all fancy effects, and it looks like any other windows. I micro-managed all my services and all their startup modes, and, with the help of 4 gigs of ram, I can fly thru vista. But I get you. I want XPsp3 that uses dx10. that’d end it.

  21. fart
    February 4th, 2008 | 10:35

@120 sp1 is gold but hasn’t been released yet.

there’s a RC refresh 2 that is very stable and doesn’t show any build version on your desktop or computer properties when you install it, but it’s not RMT.
wait a day or two… or a week.

All of this is so much a guessing game. Why do you think there is a ‘?’ at the end of all of these stories titles? This is ALL based off this post:
    http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=505&pgno=0

The guy who wrote this cites no sources or anything. Just that “We just received word”.
I want Vista to run smoother as much as the next guy, but lets wait until a REAL news source reports this. Not a bunch people quoting this lame TechARP article.

    Hi Guys,
Since I have stepped back from my duties at Microsoft I thought Id take the time to post here. Vista SP1 will resolve any of the issues experienced using Vista. XP sp3 will be released also this month however I think you all should give Vista a go. If you`re thinking of using a cracked copy of my software then think again as I`ll be dedicating my time to tracking down and ass raping you pirate scum. I`ll make sure I have your mother and your sisters too.

this isnt a rumour, its just not accurate. the service pack is finsihed, its RTM, but for download it will be available in the mid march, and over the automatic update mid april.

    http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsvista/archive/2008/02/04/announcing-the-rtm-of-windows-vista-sp1.aspx

    “…
Here’s the timing for SP1 availability for current Windows Vista users:

    * In mid-March, we will release Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update (in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese) and to the download center on microsoft.com. Customers who visit Windows Update can choose to install Service Pack 1. If Windows Update determines that the system has one of the drivers we know to be problematic, then Windows Update will not offer SP1. Since we know that some customers may want to update to SP1 anyhow, the download center will allow anyone who wants to install SP1 to do so.
    * In mid-April, we will begin delivering Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Vista customers who have chosen to have updates downloaded automatically. That said, any system that Windows Update determines has a driver known to not update successfully will not get SP1 automatically. As updates for these drivers become available, they will be installed automatically by Windows Update, which will unblock these systems from getting Service Pack 1. The result is that more and more systems will automatically get SP1, but only when we are confident they will have a good experience.
    * The remaining languages will RTM in April.
    …”
