Windows Live Mail with 2GB soon

Microsoft means his fight against Google and Yahoo seriously. With starting a new portal, they are also going to offer new mail service. Windows Live Mail is expected to launch in June and will offer a 2GB storage. The webbased email service has a Outllook look and feel. The email can also be read offline using the Desktop Live Mail client, this client will also be able to access IMAP and POP account. The service will be free but ad based.

It will also be possible to get you Live Mail in to Outlook but that will cost 19 Euro a year. Anyway, I don’t see any reason why should I pay for such a basic feature like POP3 access, when it’s everywhere offered for free. It is expected that together with the launch of Windows Live Mail, also the new messenger client Windows Live Messenger (8.0) will be released. We must wait a bit before saying the final verdict, but my opinion is that Gmail is still the best option in current conditions. I prefer good user interface and simple graphic before tons of gigabytes…

“…before tons of gigabytes…” Dude, Gmail also has 2GB and they give every Gmail account a few bytes fer second. Gmail will continue to own MS.

yeah i know google has 2 GB+ of space, I use it, but I meant it in slightly different way - every new mailbox provider tries to advertise this huge space for your mails, but it’s nothing extra nowadays and it can’t succeed without good interface and features…

Indeed. I must say that Gmail changes E-mail. No more 20 “RE:” mails. :P

    I have an Hotmail Live account ( I’m a beta tester ).
The interface is one of the things I like because it’s outlook based and for the people that uses outlook at work or home it’s very familiar. therefore easy to use.

The ad banners sucks, it takes to much space.
    I still prefere Gmail.

And is you can keep your hotmail address.

I use MS Live aswell, its actually rather good but its better if you use IE, they haven’t bothered and I believe rightly so to support all browsers (as they don’t want everyone to use IE). It is similar to inbox.com but inboxdotcom supports firefox..

Final comment: good effort from MS (its about time), gmail and MS can live quite happily side by side in my opinion, heres a thought, why not have/use both?

I use hotmail live atm, its very fast and flows really smoothly, hardly any loading times. One of the good things I like is that you can ctrl+ click your junk mail from your inbox, then right click anywhere on them and chose the option “report+delete”. It’s not so much being able to “report and delete” its the “Flash” look and feel of it where you can move practically anything on screen, or even say it has the look and feel of your Desktop, being able to drag folders about anywhere with no downtime.

Hotmail is a scam, it is completely useless. I’ve used it for about a year and then switched to gmail.

Ive had hotmail accounts for years, and still find them useless. New livemail is a lot slower than yahoo or gmail.both in IE and firefox etc…dont know why anyone would use it except easier signup for msn…sorry wlm:P

It doesn’t matter, Yahoo Mail has unlimited storage for free. Gmail is good, Yahoo is better and windows live is just (ONCE AGAIN) too damn slow.

The look and feel of outlook, is Microsoft just copying Apple AGAIN? .Mac offers a web interface with the same look and feel of the os x mail client. Of course, it isn’t “free”, $99 a year for 20 gb and a bunch of extras, web hosting, photo galleries, a virtual usb drive, remote back-ups, etc.
