Is this a minor or major upgrade from the last one? I recently upgraded to 5.54. I’m not sure if this warrants another upgrade unless the new features proves useful to my needs.

Hopefully this version will start quicker then the previous one.
In the past when Winamp did not have so much extras, it started up in just a second, now it takes at least 5 seconds.
Much better than i-tunes as far as the ability to manage music on your i-pod as well as copy from your i-pod to your computer. Must have if you have an mp3 player. Great software.

I still have my old 256MB mp3 player. Never tried it with Winamp before. Guess I’ll give this new feature a good try sometime. Thank you Wizard.

This is only good for playing mp3 and few other audio files for video winamp sucks. Not the best player, but it’s OK.

hmm.. when i click installer exe it just loads and loads and nothing happens except my antivir going nuts notifying about TR/Vundo.GEN trojans. I mean that would be understandable on keygen but on installer exe its never happened before.

I download from Pulse’s upload. I did a major scan with AVG and finds 3 little trojan sleeping nicely in my APPdata temp directory. It’s strange because i scanned installer/keygen and finds nothing with my up-to-date AVG. Any other ideas?

Try AIMP2 player,
its so much better than winamp.
The best is it got tabs for playlists, like opera or firefox, it take realy low resources, got lots of small features like integrated clocks for autoshutdown or autostart, quick search, fast library and lots of pluggins….
I used winamp for years, and i thought it would be hard to let go, but what made me is, that all shortcuts global and local i set just like winamp has, so there were no transfer period of getting used to it ^^
I discovered it when i was looking for another media player, couse i was listening to audio books (dark tower) and i always lost track of where i was when i switch to music listening, but multiple playlists in AIMP solved that problem…
I realy like this player, just like i love KMPLAYER for video

For those of you saying Winamp is bloated lets hear how minimal your player is. I use Winamp and have these features: iPod support, media library, auto-tagging, global shortcuts, minimize to tray, and sweet visualizations (milkdrop2). All while using an average of 11MB of RAM and only 22MB of diskspace. So with Winamp I’ve got plenty of features and minimal HD and RAM usage. Lets hear how Foobar and Aimp2 are.
My guess is your player takes up nearly as much HD space and RAM and is lacking in features.
I downloaded Pulse’s link. And things are strange. found trojans with AVG. Post here if you find a method 2 fix it :/ gona have 2 format 2morrow 2 be safe.

before reformating try this.
1. Turn off system restore
2. In RUN type: dllcache and hit enter then delete the contents of that folder
3. Put your windows CD in you CD/DVD drive.
4. In RUN type: sfc /scannow
5. wait for it to finish.
SFC = System File Checker it will replace any changed system files with the originals.
If you are using a patched uxtheme file you will have to patch it again because sfc will restore it.

@48 Ok, so now that we know what you’re concerned about (15MB HD space, and 7MB RAM) which are both less than 1% of their respective totals, are you as critical about every other program you run? You do realize that at some point popularity is a large plus as there will be more plug-ins, more skins, and active development. Too bad it doesn’t support any portable media players either, guess it can’t play with the big boys like Winamp and iTunes.
@51 I won’t even argue, Foobar2000 is the Linux of the media player world. Its hard to configure, looks like crap, and the developers don’t seem to care. I’ll admit, I’d use Foobar if it looked good and came with everything I wanted instead of me having to search endlessly for plug-ins and complicated to install skins.
i would also like to know why to use the pro version? i have been using the free version for years and love the shoutcast stuff. i just don’t see why i should go to the pro version.

I like winamp but I use foobar cause my songs go to the next one faster than winamp. In winamp you have to wait 5-10 seconds to change a song whereas foobar is instant. Winamp is good for browsing online music stations but all you have to do is go to shoutcast and elect a station and tell the OS you want foobar to play it from now on. Saving resources and hassle.
@44 not on mine it didnt. all 100% clear this end. prehaps its cause im running vista x64, maybe thats why it never did anything just sat there, i have just checked again and the file looks clean via all the anti virus, but it wont launch, just sits there doing nothing

well you started resource managment discusion, so dont turn it on me.
I used winamp for many years its good player,
but all it features i got with AIMP2,
but cant say that other way around. here is some EVERY DAY functions that winamp dont have.

playlist tabs is what I use every single day you can see tabs of – favorites, audiobook dark tower, and default that oppens when mp3 is clicked (can be set however you want)
this is almost as big break in playing music as browsing without tabs and with tabs.
Another thing u can see is separating folders in playlist, which make it much more transparent, and manageble especialy if you got opened lots of mp3.
Clock u see up can start/stop/ playing or shut down computer at given time – very usefull evean for shut down PC only or as alarm clock if you like to wake up to music. Quick search is fast and easy but u can always set advance search at key “j” like winamp (I did).
next thing i like is that i can physicaly delete track from HDD, right from playlist.
and ofc he got tag editor, audio converter, audio library lots of plugins and skins…. all very intuitive.
it has possibli other cool functions i dont know about yet, since I’ve been using it only for 2months so far…
but you are right popularity is something good, thats why i am spent 10 min to do this to gain this great player some popularity so its get better and better,
winamp was on market for more then decade, and i think its stuck with it old features… and not moving forward, thou i did not think it before i start using AIMP
about portable players
on my iPod shuffle i use script shuffle-db
that is right on player, so i can just copy any mp3 there, run script(1second) and listen… i hated iTunes

try this out http://vundofix.atribune.org/ scan in safemode then let it scan again on startup… should delete the files but it will keep trying to run the program but it will say the .dlls are missing which is what that program deleted…
after you get logged in u can search or look for the actual files.. u can start by going to run and typing in “msconfig” then on the startup tab look for the files and prevent them from starting up/delete the directory they’re in etc…

@52 hard to configure???? I dunno I know plenty of noobs who get it going just fine with asio support even. Plus your comment about how it looks is pretty mute considering its an audio player (well thats all I want from it) so what the hell do I need to look at a pretty resource sucking gui for when I’m LISTENING to music with the app minimized in 99% of cases or do you sit there and stare at the gui while the music is going do you???
Besides inbuilt flac is another great reason I prefer foobar2000. Mp3 is great and all but damn they do sound like crap compared to a nice flac

Pulse’s link for elysium’s winamp DOES install somekind of process/malware that activates itself every windows startup and spreads multiple (afterall I cleared around 200 trojans off my windows/syswow64 etc folders last night. If you installed the same and your antivirus didnt whine about it, update it or change it to working one. I dont know if it’s pulse’s own trick or elysium’s but never ever had problems with “original installers” like this before. When I cleared registry for that dll launcher it applied and took it off from startup programs it works ok now but I still feel that I should refresh system again. If you want to update winamp, get core’s rls for reliable source.
If you’re thinking about using this app BE SURE TO UNRAR the installer and remove utu.exe. That is the stupid malware/trojan. You can unrar the file with Winrar

got the virus myself and from the looks of it admin have not removed the effin post yet. use superantispyware, the free version will remove the infection or you can get the pro version off of rlslog too.

Yeah I got the dam trojan too, and have been trying to get rid of it since yesterday. Spybot finds it(virtumonde.dll) but can’t delete the registry key, the latest vundofix nor microsoft’s MRT even registers it, so i’ve been running a scan with avg spyware, then I’m gonna run a avg rootkit scan, then nod, then superantispyware to make sure I get the sucker gone.
If anyone’s gotten rid of it, without having to reformat, plz tell me what program you used and what else you did, thanks.
