EPiSODE group have released a documentry film called “Who Really Killed Jesus” it`s a 2008 film, directed by John Fothergill and Sean Smith. I did`nt watched this film yet  but comments are most welcome.

Plot: Who killed Jesus Christ? Who is really responsible for his death? Did Jesus was crucified / murdered by Jews? Pontius Pilate? Roman soldiers? For the film, numerous studies have been carried out, ao statement asked many scholars.

    I’ve seen a different documentary showing the Biblical timeline for Jesus as quoted from the scriptures themselves – and, there is some evidence that Jesus was a fictional character (the dates of certain events just don’t jive).

    But, assuming Jesus did exist, a guy named A.N. Wilson (an award-winning biographer of Tolstoy) did a biography of Jesus titled “Jesus, A Life.” In it, he has an interesting theory surrounding the death of Jesus.

    Pilate, himself, didn’t care whether Jesus lived or died. He was just a governor who wanted to keep his constituents (who happened to be Jews) happy. And it was primarily a group of Jewish lawyers and/or judges (the Sanhedrin) who wanted Jesus put to death. Here’s where it gets interesting.

    Most people who believe in scripture think that Judas, a disciple of Jesus, betrayed him to Roman soldiers sent to arrest him – his payment being 30 pieces of silver. But, the other disciples would have “expected” this of Judas – since he was formerly a revolutionary type of person. In short, Judas was the perfect “patsy.”

    Wilson suggests that a different person betrayed Jesus and, at the same time, had Judas “framed” by tossing him 30 pieces of silver at the time of Jesus’ arrest (in front of the other disciples). Wilson also suggests that Judas didn’t commit suicide because he’d betrayed Jesus. He committed suicide because, after being framed, he knew he’d not be able to convince the other disciples that he DIDN’T betray Jesus.

    So, who betrayed him? Wilson suggests that it may have been the only disciple who was NOT present when Jesus was arrested … a disciple who could ALSO describe Jesus to the soldiers … and a disciple who also happened to be a member of the Sanhedrin:

    Of course, all this is conjecture (grin).

    @39 being a spiritual amateur theologian I find your comments to be very very interesting. I’m very interested in the biblical timeline you speak of. I wasn’t aware the bible spoke of any dates other than what can be referred to as “analysis” of the fall of Babylon from which a date can be derived during that Old Testament account. The bible as far as I know from analysis would actually state Jesus actual birthday would have been in the late summer through late fall. Although I digress….

    I’ve never understood why a significant amount of Jews don’t want to admit to the cause of the death of Jesus. There are a group of Jews from that period until now who believe Jesus is the living son of God, maybe it is these Jews (Messonic or Masonic can’t remember actual spelling) who can’t come to grips with that period in history.

    Not to start a religion or spiritual debate….for those who don’t believe… seriously, what do you have to lose if you follow Christianity and it turns out when you die you are wrong? What do you have to lose if you DON’T follow God and when you die you realize you were WRONG? It really simply comes down to that.

    Jesus was real, there are historical records that prove this. Roman generals mention Jesus as early as 40AD..that’s 2 years after his crucifixion. One of the most famous of these writers is Flavius Josephus, a historian born A.D. 37. A Pharisee, he commanded the Jewish forces fighting against their Roman conquerors in A.D. 66, and was captured when Galilee fell and Jerusalem was razed. In The Antiquities of the Jews, xviii.3.3, written around A.D. 93 or 94, he wrote:

    “Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews, and many of the Gentiles. He was the Christ, and when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men among us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again the third day; as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him. And the tribe of Christians so named from him are not extinct at this day.”

    An Arabic translation of this passage reads:

    “At this time there was a wise man who was called Jesus. And his conduct was good, and (He) was known to be virtuous. And many people from among the Jews and the other nations became his disciples. Pilate condemned Him to be crucified and to die. And those who had become his disciples did not abandon his discipleship. They reported that He had appeared to them three days after his crucifixion and that He was alive; accordingly, He was perhaps the Messiah concerning whom the prophets have recounted wonders.”

    Another ancient historian was Cornelius Tacitus, born sometime between A.D. 52 and 57 (no one seems to agree on this). He was the Roman governor of Asia and the son-in-law of the governor of Britain, and to him we owe much of our knowledge of the Roman emperors, including Tiberius, Claudius, and Nero. In his Annals, first dating from around A.D. 117, he wrote:

    “Christus, the founder of the name [Christians], was put to death by Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius.” Annals xv.44

    Justin Martyr, born A.D. 100 in Palestine, called himself a Samaritan but was probably of Greek or Roman ancestry. A well-educated philosopher, he studied the doctrines of Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras, and the Stoics, but decided Christianity was the only philosophy that was “safe and profitable.” When forced to defend his beliefs to the Emperor Antoninus Pius, he referred the emperor to the report written by Pontius Pilate at the time of Jesus’ crucifixion for details of the incident–a report which Martyr presumed must have been on file in the imperial archives but which has unfortunately been lost through the centuries. Martyr, of course, was killed for his beliefs.

    • Suetonius and Pliny the Younger, other Roman writers of the time, also referred to Christ. Suetonius was a Roman historian and a court official in Emperor Hadrian’s government. In his Life of Claudius he refers to Claudius expelling Jews from Rome on account of their activities on behalf of a man Suetonius calls Chrestus [another misspelling of Christus or Christ]. Pliny was the Governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor (AD. 112). He was responsible for executing Christians for not worshipping or bowing down to a statue of the emperor Trajan. In a letter to the emperor Trajan, he describes how the people on trial for being Christians would describe how they sang songs to Christ because he was a god.

    • Lucian of Samosata was a Greek satirist of the latter half of the second century. He therefore lived within two hundred years of Jesus. Lucian was hostile to Christianity and openly mocked it. He particularly objected to the fact that Christians worshipped a man. He does not mention Jesus’ name, but the reference to the man Christians worship is a reference to Jesus.
    • Mara Bar-Serepion Some time after 70 A.D., Mara Bar-Sarapion (spelled either Se- or Sa-), who was probably a Stoic philosopher, wrote a letter to his son in which he describes how the Jews executed their King. Claiming to be a king was one of the charges the religious authorities used to scare Pontius Pilate into agreeing to execute Jesus.

    The most annoying thiing about the xtian superstition is the xtians insistence that everyone else has to joinn up. Those of us raised in nations that were once established outlets for the xtian superstition take that for granted and imagine that all religions recruit other overly credulous humans to their fairy tales, when in fact none of the other major religions do it> So when a xtian has a hissy fit and throws off the shackles of his/her superstition it isn’t unusual for them to go chasing after an islamic cleric, a rabbi, or a pantheist (eg Hindu) priest and try to sign up to a different line of BS only to find the bossfella of the other religion isn’t much interested in the hassle of indoctrinating an outsider in to their community’s social network and common mores.

    Which is why xtianity has been at the heart of the subjugation of humanity by whitefellas.
    Some xtian above actually tries to argue that soigning up to a superstition and finding it incorrect at death is somehow less annoying than not signing up and finding it was correct.

    I just can’t see that we only get three score and ten (70 years) of life in this universe out of billions and billions of years of the universes existence. Yet spending that 70 years trying to live up to a bunch of BS designed to oppress other humans and make the rich richer instead of living as fulfilling and useful a life as possible isn’t the worst thing that could happen?

    For me it is. In comparison finding that the switch wasn’t gonna be turned off when I kark it but have to go somewhere that isn’t as good as the place alla the lick spittles, morons, perverts, toadies and clones were going to would be mild in comparison. Alhough I suspect I would be asking to see doggie heaven, or, how the civil engineers managed to compress many billions of years of the universe’s development into 1 week.
    Puzzling away on the questions of how the universe remained in equilibrium despite the plethora of irrational physical contradictions would keep me happy despite the higher than normal ambient temperature.

The death was mandatory to save the likes of a lot of commenters in this section. For God knew that one day those ignorant (not knowing) individuals would need salvation for the works against him.
