Welcome To Macintosh 2008 DVDRip XviD-DOMiNO

Here we have an very interesting documentary for all the Mac fans, or even the others. Welcome to Macintosh is a documentary directed by Robert Baca. It stars many people as they talk about the history of Mac. The movie explores the many ways Apple Computer (now Apple, Inc.) has changed the world, from the early days of the Apple-I to the latest the company has to offer. DOMiNO releases a nice 1cd rip.

“Welcome to Macintosh” is the first documentary of its kind to mix history, criticism and an unapologetic revelry of all things Apple into a movie experience. The film explores the early years of Apple, the many challenges Apple has faced, and what the future may hold for the company and it’s products. Ex-Apple employees, engineers and community members offer insight on the company’s innovations, failures, cultural impact and what the future may be like beyond the reign of its co-founder Steve Jobs. Interviews include notable Apple personalities Andy Hertzfeld, co-creator of the original Macintosh, Guy Kawasaki, long time Mac evangelist, Leander Kahney, author of the book “Cult of Mac”, Jim Reekes, creator of the Macintosh start-up sound and Ron Wayne, original co-founder of the Apple Computer Company.

Wow, those early ipods were huge, and probably held a relatively small number of songs considering how cheap memory/drives have become now. Will be interesting to see how their personal music devices evolved into today's ultra compact ones. Given the size of the one the guy has on his lap, I am guessing that that one at least had a battery that could be easily replaced without technical skills, unlike the present disposable models.

Dave (#10), no iPod has ever had a user-replaceable battery. When the Sony lithium polymer batteries began to fail in the latter part of 2003, Apple was faced with a class-action lawsuit, and eventually agreed to replace them, albeit for a $99.00 fee.

Just to keep things factual, it should be noted that while certain elements of the Macintosh (and Lisa) interface were influenced by what was done at PARC (which in turn was influenced by the work of Vanaver Bush and Douglas C. Engelbart), much of the Lisa and Mac operating systems were written before Jobs' visit to PARC in 1979, and included features which weren't part of the Xerox Alto OS, such as dragging, double-clicking of icons, pull-down menus, a menubar at the top of the screen, the trash can and (for the Lisa) preemptive multitasking.

Also, the Macintosh was first to deliver this technology at a (relatively) affordable price, as opposed to the Xerox Alto ($40,000), Xerox Star ($16,000) or the Apple Lisa ($10,000).

To be quite fair I've found a great use for older Macs recently.

Take two G3s, a nice solid board, and some roofing nails.
Attach the board to the top of the Macs evenly on both ends and apply several nails.
The end result is a high-tech redneck coffee table.

Josh, that's not really the point that I am trying to make.

I will definitely not *buy* your movie. Sorry to say that, but:

I really am a movie-buff, but I only have about 20 DVDs, these are movies that I will definitely watch again and again and again.
But usually I sometimes go to the cinema and very often to a nearby rental store.

I use pages like this one here only to find stuff that is not available for me otherwise, TV-Rips from Channels not available in my country and Indie-Movies or Documentaries (like yours) which won't be released in Europe ever or at least any time soon.

So, I will watch this movie tonight or later this week, and if I enjoyed it I will be more than happy to donate you some money via paypal to show my support and appreciation of the movie. Even if I did not enjoy it I might donate you some, just because I actually watched it, it would have been the same if I actually got the DVD from the rental store. (And this money will probably be more than your net gross of one DVD-Sale, I suppose.)

I don't really know how much people would follow my example (kids and piracy these days, you know), but I do not do piracy just for the sake of it, it's often just a very convenient/fast/the-only way to get stuff.
But in the end I know that no IMDB-Rating or comments on websites will buy you breakfast or pay the rent and I am more than willing to actually _pay you money_ you if you enable me to.

Hey Josh, I'd second the suggestion for a paypal link. I have no interest in buying a physical DVD but it'd still be nice to kick in a few bucks.

Personally I use XP. I don't really care what the OS looks like or the fancy things it does because I never really see it. I'm usually too busy working inside an actual program to notice. *When* I switch it'll be to Linux. I'd do it now but there's still some driver issues I need to get sorted for it to run on my Lenovo laptop. Otherwise, Linux is fantastic these days. They're really starting to get it right. Then I can cut the corporate leash completely. :-)

To 21: Yeah, Xerox came up with a GUI that the rest stole. That's old news, and that's true.

But that linux innovates and the rest steals… then you have to completely forget about why apple is successful. Think of all the exterior design where apple innovates. Everything is about design, something linux developers know nothing about. Linux developers still don't know usability if it bit them in the ass. Ask anyone who's tried it and leaves it for OSX or Windows. And that's the clear majority of all computer users.

The idea of good modifiability while having an easy to use system that looks nice is no easy feat, and something linux geeks couldn't pull of in the 15 years they had time before OSX came along. And apple pulled it off then only a few years, or however long the production cycle was.

Trying to sell you their design objects by creating a history. Maybe their computers aren´t bad – but all this fanboy cult is so annoying… I´ll see if the movie has some more insights besides that all those nerds are fascinated by their macs…

anono (#70), as of a year or so ago, Taiwanese notebook manufacturer Quanta Computer was Apple's premier notebook assembler (following a shift of orders from Asustek Computer, also based in Taiwan). HP also contracted with Quanta for 10 million notebooks, while Dell ordered substantially less (if you can call 5-7 million units "less") due to their moving most of its mainstream notebook production to Taiwan-based Compal Electronics.
