Weekend in Paris

A friend of me decidd to go to Paris for one extended weekend at the end of this month (20-22 January), and I’d like to hear some recommendations or tips from you, because he asked me for a help, but I haven never been in Paris as well – he will travel alone or with one female friend. We all know that French people don’t like to speak English too much, but this shouldn’t be too much of a problem, at least the younger generation can talk quite well :) . We’re currently in the process of looking for some type of accommodation – either in a cheap hotel, a students college dorm, or anything actually. He doens’t want to pay €100+ for one night, especially when hotels work only for a sleep there, nothing more. This accommodation should be also either near the city centre or at least connected to it with some bus or underground transportation.

I was also thinking of whether it would be better to pay for bed and breakfast or to buy food in the city – I have absolutely no idea about prices in the centre of Paris. He’d also like to know a little bit about the internet there like how much they charge per hour in some net cafés or whether it’s possible to catch unsecured WiFi on the streets (he’s taking his laptop) – the best option would be to have inet access in the hotel, but you can’t rely on this too much being that this is usually offered only in the better and pricier hotels. Every tip or recommendation is really appreciated. Thanks.
