Another cut of Watchmen – this time it’s ULTIMATE cut which is something like 3 and half hours long. Quote from Warner Bros: “Warner Home Video has officially announced release of ‘Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut’ for November 3. Ultimate cut will contain the animated comic ‘Tales of the Black Freighter’ woven into the director’s cut of the film. The total running length will be 215 minutes.” I wonder what’s next ULTIMATE DEFINITE REAL TRUE EXTRA cut? :mrgreen:

Plot: In a gritty and alternate 1985 the glory days of costumed vigilantes have been brought to a close by a government crackdown, but after one of the masked veterans is brutally murdered an investigation into the killer is initiated. The reunited heroes set out to prevent their own destruction, but in doing so discover a deeper and far more diabolical plot.

    hey @18, theres nothing OTT about it. There was a theatrical version, a director’s cut, and an animated short for the one comicbook issue that is not part of the main story. Here, the short has been inserted into the film for the most complete version. That’s it. Pretty deserving for one of the greastest comics ever written. See? Not so OTT…

    @20 thanks for the input, but that still doesn’t explain the upcoming ‘Rough Cut’. This is the ‘Ultimate Cut’, that includes the ‘Black Freighter’ short. I have no problem with that. I’m just curious as to what’s in the extra 36 minutes and why these things aren’t just released together. It would appear they just want completists to buy every copy. Seems to me they are cynically milking people of their finances. Thank god for the internet (and RLSLOG of course :) )!!

    @36 – I agree with 27, it has relevance if you understood the book.

    @24 – The reason for the multiple releases is simply the time it takes to make them. The director has to find time to go back into the post production studio and re-edit a new cut while working on new projects. I for one am glad Zack Snyder is making this effort for the true fans of the book.

    @15 b – The “rough cut” was the original rough cut previewed to the director’s peers, before the movie was released. It’s not a new cut that comes after the Ultimate Edition.

Haven’t see this release in full, but the animated parts look good, they seem add to the total story, rather than detract. Some folk find any film (movie) longer than 2 hours too long for their eating habits.

    You need to make sure you have a AC3 filter/decoder for this one, it’s AC3 5.1 audio. http://www.free-codecs.com/index.htm all you ever need in video/audio. ;)
