Warner Cable sued by Los Angeles City

In the two years since becoming the major cable provider in the Los Angeles area, Time Warner Cable has drawn sometimes colorful criticism from its subscribers. On Wednesday, the Los Angeles City attorney, Rocky Delgadillo sued the company in Los Angeles County Superior Court accusing it of engaging in “unlawful, unfair and fraudulent business acts and practices and deceptive advertising.” The suit says that the company has subjected subscribers to delayed repair appointments, deceptive pricing and Internet outages. “Time Warner Cable must be held accountable for illegally deceiving and ripping off its subscribers,” said Mr. Delgadillo in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr. Delgadillo is seeking $2,500 in civil penalties for each violation. A spokesman for Time Warner Cable said that the company disagreed that it had “misled customers in any way.” Time Warner’s Los Angeles area subscriber base grew from 360,000 to about 2 million after the acquisition, Mr. Dudly said. Since then, the company has done an extensive renovation and upgrade of the system it inherited. “We now receive fewer complaints than we did before the acquisition,” said Mr. Dudley. “I think that shows some substantial progress.” Message boards for Los Angeles area residents rating the city businesses are filled with comments complaining about botched cable services. I guess the yesterday’s news about capping the bandwith by Warner was latest impulse which may start an avalanche of similar complaints.

    I have always had a problem with TW thats why I switched to Verizon. TW has always had unlawful spy practices on its customers. Yesterday’s news about capping the bandwidth was the funniest thing I heard yet. So glad I left. I would like to see TW go bankrupt from lawsuits.

    Hate Time Warner…

    They secretly took money from my bank account for services I didn’t receive…and never sent me a bill. They provide poor value for the money and are a poster child for everything that is wrong with corporate America. Your internet access will be radically different in 5 years if they have their way…

    Can’t understand why anyone would support a company like this…then again, I couldn’t understand why anyone would vote for Bush either.

    This is just the first lawsuit, expect more against them in the future for more deceptive practices.

    What has having a bad experience with your GF got to do with TW ? Surely you can’t blame them for that ! LOL

    Thank you LA! Finally a city with some morals. Here in Las Vegas, Time Warner would just bride the city commisioner to let everything slide. It’s so common, the commisioner’s office should have their own website with info on where to send bribes…

    @3

    All you have to do is divide by 8 ( 12mb line means you d/l at 1.5. )

    I sense the same strategy by the Los Angeles Superior Court by the U.S. in the ‘Bay of The Pigs’….sparking an overall revolt….getting everyone else to start suing them.

    They all want to charge extra money for larger downloads and higher speeds. I’ve been following the stories at various sites and Time Warner has a nasty, paltry plan to charge users per gig over only 40gig per month. The USA is among the lowest speed internet service in the world, at the highest prices (Sweden and Japan are currently at 100mps) yet they want to squeeze it customers as if they are getting something great. I hope LA wins so Comcast will have less incentive to implement its new capping plan.

    Alright, STOP your whining and crying. Use something called a “search engine” and you will come up with over 2.5 MILLION pages that all say that the new TW pricing system will, and I will type this slowly since most of you are just learning how to use your computers it seems;
    “T H E N E W P R I C I N G S Y S T E M W I L L N O T
    E F F E C T T H E E X I S T I N G C U S T O M E R S,
    O N L Y T H E N E W C U S T O M E R S T H A T G E T AN
    A C C O U N T A F T E R T H E N E W P R I C I N G
    S Y S T E M I S I N E F F E C T.”

    Got it? GOOD. Now stop whining like a bunch of little girls.

    It shouldn’t effect any customers. Doesn’t matter if it only extends to new customers. It shouldn’t extend to anyone.

    Maybe if the companies were doing their job well in the first place they could try some fiasco like this. But I’m not getting what I paid for already, and f em if I’m gonna let them rape and pillage me.
