    Last keygen about 3 weeks ago for this program had a trojan in it. Wonder if this version is clean?

    The new version 3 really sucks because of the horrible, horrible interface. I went back to an older version because the interface wasn’t as insane.

    A mad man must have designed the new menu system in ConvertXtoDVD 3.

    People that author and sell scene release DVDs know all about this bad boy. If you need to create a full DVD with menus, subtitles, etc prepped for Nero burning ASAP with as few as steps possible wrapped in a simple interface this app cant be beat.

    I admit that when they changed the name and the look a bit i was leery but after using it for over a year since it was called DiVX 2 DVD i can honestly report that it does its job very well.

    I author @ ~150fps for a single project or x2 @ ~75-85fps/ea on an E6700 (stock)

    As far as I’m concerned this program is still in beta with the users acting as QA. There are too many bugs that should have been resolved prior to the final release but greed is a funny thing. They still haven’t addressed the lack of an option too automatically erase a RW. Shame on them.

    I had probs with burning mkv with this as well, especially for dropping frames, and I was using one of the 2.9xx versions, but since upgrading to 3.0, mkv’s are handled and set up perfectly, no complaints with 3.0 at all. New menu templates addend on the newer version as well, but I don’t bother using them myself.

    I just hate the fact my end result on the DVD copy is still alwayz cropped STILL. I posted this same topic on “Power Video Converter v1.5.57.13-SQUNK” on rlslog a couple dayz ago about this same issue. I have tried user-defined video settings and everything…..I still lose like 2 or more inches from left to right and top to bottom. ANYONE ELSE? Before you think I am crazy, pop in a dvd you did with convertX and go to a certain part of the movie like 12:35 and study the entire scene layout i.e. flowerz on a table on the far right etc., then go on your CPU and go to the same minz and secz and look for the cropping. Use this version or previouz versionz, does’nt matter. I have been using VSO for a while now but I prefer WinAVI 8 and other versionz cause I get such a bad crop with convertX. If someone knowz something I am doing wrong, I would prec the advice and right settingz I should have, and yes I think I have tried them all, but nobodys perfect….

    Don’t know if you tried this but go to settings,then to image processing, then video resize method pick bottom choice(User).Next add your video, then tileset1 then video then video resize method then click little arrow then go to the right of the box and you’ll see a little television screen, click it and you have all the resizing and cropping adjustments that you should need.

  67. dan
    April 2nd, 2008 | 13:15

    I dont know why all of you are complaining about this program. I use Ripit4me and I have YET to run into ANY dvd (blue ray/hd or not) that this program cannot and will not rip to my hard drive complete with all the extras and menues. Then if it is larger then 4.5GB, I just use either dvd2one or dvd shrink. BAM, the exact mirror image of the dvd with no quality loss and it is now on a blank dvd that I bought at office max.

    You people seem to try and make a mountain out of a mole hill.

    The ONLY time I use this program is when I get a sh%$$y mkv file. and why anyone with any sense would use a crappy and poorly coded russian program is beyond rational thought. Half the time it tosses the audio a full 30 sec after the video, and the other times it places it a good 6 nano seconds after the video. And it is clearly noticeable when you watch it, thus requiring you to install even MORE programs just to speed up the audio to match the video.

    Not a very good program (mkv) and all the computer mags, agree. So why it is still being used is dumbfounding.

  68. riggsthecat
    April 2nd, 2008 | 13:54

    Love this program, been using it for awhile now.

    @65 The reference to the main part of the computer “CPU – Central Processing Unit” was used when they first came out and for years following. So in fact, using that term means you’ve had or been on one for many years (if you are still using that term) so who is the n00b? It’s you.

  72. Dionysus
    April 2nd, 2008 | 17:06

    I’ve downloaded and been using this new version 3 and I don’t like it compared to the version 2.21 I’ve been using for the last year.

    Here’s the problems with the new version, plus some constructive improvements I have observed:

    1) In this new version you cannot preview your main menu screen at the moment until VSO adds this at a later date, (you could on v.2) So when you use your own jpeg image for the background you cannot see if it fits well or if your menu text is overlapping the jpeg image’s film title text for example.

    2) The simplicity of use from v.2 has completely gone. It was so easy to just get things up and running with v.2 and v.3 has over complicated the process extensively.

    3) The whole font settings procedure is over complicated. It gives you more options but the interface is unecessarily convoluted and also does not give you an escape default option if you mess things up.

    4) Out of about 200 films I’ve converted with v.2 including .mkv files I’ve only had about 2 that failed. The first file I attempted to convert with v.3 (.Rec) failed. I wasn’t impressed.

    5) You can now merge two video files (with their subtitles if required) into one continuous video file. That’s an improvement.

    6) You can have and animated video background menu and thumbnails with audio for individual titles if you require it.

    7) Improved .mkv compatibility, though new technology for processing .mkv files is being introduced everyday so it is an ever continuing process of updating for VSO or any other company for that matter.

    8) Retains all the features of the previous v.2 but the whole interface is inferior in it’s convoluted and non intuitive layout.

    My advice, keep with v.2 for the time being sadly.

    Dio

    Have to concur this is still in a beta stage thats why there has been so many versions over the past month. However I use an earlier version all the time and for speed v quality its hard to beat. Correct @70 the cpu is the computer everything else is a peripheral.Never noticed the problem pAbLoEsCo @66 has but thats cos I probably haven’t been looking for it, now will have to check it out myself, so thanks @66 for pointing it out.

    apparantly mkv format is great for hd, but i just extract and make my own avi file out of it anyways lol. also subtitles suck to watch on mkv, overlapping of words make you miss whats being said.

  75. kmac
    April 2nd, 2008 | 17:53

    @60 just tested it with avi & dvd, very difficult as had to use 2 different apps to make sure that the time was exactly the same i.e inc tenths of a sec. To be honest I did not notice much if any cropping however apparently the exact time on both the avi and the dvd do not correspond with the same frame/scene so it’s difficult to be sure.

    @54
    Thanks for the reply. My problem is with “no audio” when I play the DVD. The video looks great, just can’t hear anything.

    Is there a special step needed for the audio file when dealing with .mkv?

    Again, I’m talking about a problem with .mkv x264 blueray/HDDVD rips posted on this site. Video works fine- just no audio. Using VER 299.13.900. Otherwise, the non-HD/.mkv files burn perfectly with this program.

    MKV, Matroska, isn’t a program, it’s a container format. In my opinion it’s one of the best container formats out there, not to mention it is open source. It has built in support for subtitles too, which is great because many rippers are now including the subtitles in the mkv file (Not burned-in, hard subtitles), which eases the task of having to look for subtitles. The problems you cite are due to either a player which has problems reading MKV (As do old versions of VLC) or the person who created the MKV file. Read up on MKV, it really is here to stay: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matroska

  82. Sicky

    @ 78 beatdown.
    I think if I remember that I had an earlier 2.9xxx version and then I updated to a new 2.9xxx version and then onto version 3 when it came out. The problem with “no audio and perfect picture” happened once with me with the middle version that I had so I kinda postponed my mkv burning until this version. Please don’t say you still having problems after downloading this version because if so then I’m totally stumped. As for steps involved before writing the mkv files, I have found that it always comes out perfect with mkv’s if the aspect ratio is set to automatic.. otherwise it used to stall with me and I always had problems. Try that if you’ve upgraded and see.

    @80
    same as above setting AR to automatic… don’t know why it works but it just does!

    @83
    When the conversion is done, depending on your speed, it’ll take anything from 2-10 minutes to create the menus, I’ll always found that it stops responding for me as well but if you hang on for a bit it should eventually just burn it automatically if a blank is in, or ask you to “insert media” in a sexy as hell voice! :)

    Hope this works for you guys!

    Bigger doesn’t mean better

    @ 83 Diskodawg78
    Do you insert a dvd before starting the process and wait for your system to process it?

    Yes I do insert a blank DVD (-R), but nothing happens except that the program freezes. It also freezes if I try to run anything else while ConvertXtoDVD is running.

    I’m having the same problem as Pablo seems like a cropping thing I suppose in the opening credits for the names and such they are off the screen. As far as pic goes seems fine but what settings should I set it as to get everything perfect because the opening names are off the screen few inches cut in half thanks.

    Just a word of caution don’t download the TE release of this it seems to have stripped half the stuff on it therefore there are big bugs when trying to convert a movie, Just download the trial via the official site then get the serial number posted here by Wolfin:

    ConvertXtoDVD – 3.0.0.9
    =======================
    Download from VSO and use this serial number

    Serial: 22222-22222-22222-22222-26L6F-A

    @89 optimusp and 60 pAbLoEsCo

    I can’t remember where I read this and I don’t know if it will work for you but it did for me. Make sure your dvd player is set to play in letterbox mode and not pan and scan. I’ve had no problems since changing this setting except for one dvd I made of Prison Break episodes which cuts off the Fox logo in the bottom right corner. I even made other dvd’s with Prison Break episodes that play fine but for some reason with this one dvd the edges are cut off.

    @60 and @93

    I’m facing the same problem as pAbLoEsCo here, with this version carrying serious cropping issues. I even went back to the earlier version i was using, before i came back to try it one more time(just to see if it could be resolved or not). The cropping is still very bad, even in user defined mode or in letter-box mode. A very good portion from the left and right get cropped. i changed the TV format to 4:3, which solved the cropping issues from the upper and bottom level, but the sides are still messed up. My advice… stick with Version 2 of ConvertX, Version 3… (with a special mention to this one), is trully a disappointment. Version 3 is more show than substance. Unless someone could convince me otherwise, by helping me out of this over-cropping mess.
