Volver LiMiTED DVDRip XviD-BABiES

Three days ago I watched this great Spanish movie with Penelope Cruz “Woman on Top, Sahara, Bandidas”. The movie was released 2 months ago as Limited. I saw that RLSlog didn’t mention this movie on the site and I thought that a post would inform some of you for seeing this film. Oscar for best foreign movie goes to: “Volver”, I hope so!

VOLVER is a meeting of “Mildred Pierce” and “Arsenic and Old Lace”, combined with the surrealistic naturalism of my fourth film, “¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto!!” (”What have I done to Deserve This?”), that is, Madrid and its lively working-class neighbourhoods, where the immigrants from the various Spanish provinces share dreams, lives and fortune with a multitude of ethnic groups and other races. At the heart of this social framework, three generations of women survive wind, fire and even death, thanks to goodness, audacity and a limitless vitality.

They are Raimunda (Pénelope Cruz), who is married to an unemployed labourer and has a teenage daughter (Yohana Cobo); Sole (Lola Dueñas), her sister, who makes a living as a hairdresser; and the mother of both (Carmen Maura), who died in a fire along with her husband. This character appears first to her sister (Chus Lampreave) and then to Sole, although the people with whom she has some unresolved matters are Raimunda and her neighbour in the village, Agustina (Blanca Portillo).

Spanish sucks. I’m sorry but it does, and therefore everything that is made in the spanish language also sucks by relation. That’s just the way it is.

This is a very nice movie. Watched it a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it! You can see the whole potential of Penelope Cruz in a way you will never see in American movies.

Just don’t expect any crazy action stunts! :-)

I don’t care if spanish is the most spoken language in the universe, that doesn’t make it good. The fact is that all cultural influence stemming from the spanish language has been plain and boring. Those people need to just give up on making movies already and focus on whatever the hell it is they do well…I can’t really think of what that is at the moment since they don’t do much of anything, but I’m sure they must be good for something.

Now, I’m certainly not saying that the english language has produced the most or the best media. We do alright though. All I’m saying is spanish is worthless in this area.

Is this a new release? I don’t see the reason you are posting about it if it’s not.

(Sorry if I sound rude, but I would prefer not wasting time with old releases.)

Folly, in part you are right, but like a typical ass, you generalyze and that’s just stupid. There are many movies worth watching in Spanish, maybe you don’t get or don’t want the oportunity to see them.

It is normal to think that there are more english quality films because it is true, but im not sure which part would win in a ratio statistic of good movies/bad movies. There are shitty movies in Spanish but, of course, there are many more in English.

Anyway, if someday you change your way of thinking (seems difficult though) why don’t you check the filmographies of these Spanish directors:

    Pedro Almodóvar
    Luis Buñuel
    Víctor Erice
    Joaquín Jordá

Not fires and explosions, but hey, maybe you learn something.

Change my way of thinking? Come on, you make it sound like I’m unfairly biased against anything diffrent than what I’m used to. I love lots of foreign cultures. Expecially japanese and korean. Those russians have made some good stuff too. Indians have some great literature.
But everything I’ve ever seen come out of the spanish language was totally lame. All their movies, books, music, clothes, foods, buildings, video games, toys, all of it totally pathetic and boring. This isn’t bias, it’s just my fair and grounded opinion based on everything I’ve seen from the spanish so far. Maybe this movie is an exception, but I doubt it.

Folly is a racist. Pure and simple.

‘Fair and balanced view’? My ass.

This is good movie – not Almodovars’ best but better than Talk To Her.

All civilizations are equal, given everytime the local conditions (eg the century in which they were developed, the wealth of the people who developed it, even the local weather, eg cold in Alaska, heat in Sahara, and a million other factors like religious, cultural and social beliefs..Folly, who are you to judge all these wisdom? You need to get more universal. Cultural racism is a boomerang coming back to the one who throws it (just think of the Nazis and their arian theory, or the death of Saddam and his Kurdish genocide). It’s up to you to stay blindly arrogant or let the light of history enlighten your short existence..
