Violent games causing German school attack?
Still very controversary topic of violence in video games is again on the top of the media interest. The masked 18-year-old man stormed the Scholl secondary school on Monday in the western German town of Emsdetten, wounding as many as 27 people before committing suicide. The young man, identified only as Bastian B., was known to authorities and due in court on Tuesday for weapons violations, local police said. According to German media reports, he had a fondness for war simulation and computer games. His friends and schoolmates reported Counter Strike being his most popular game, and because of that he probably decided to try in in real conditions.
Christa Stewens, family minister for the conservative-led state of Bavaria, called for a nationwide ban on war games like paintball and laser tag, in which players hunt down and pretend to kill each other with guns firing paint balls or laser beams. “The federal government must finally ban (simulated) killer games… Bavaria has had such a ban in place since 2002,” Stewens said in a statement. She added that children should also be prevented from playing violent computer games. Does this woman ever played some computer game? I don’t think that mentally mature person could even try to immitate some Quake 4 stuff in the real world…

a game cant make such a big impression on a normal person that they decide to kill someone.. unless ofcourse this person isnt normal to begin with. Id do two things, examine the child for damage to the frontal lobe(common indicator of child abuse and, at times connected with psycopathy) and b) check up on the childs previous social behaviour. Therein you will find the answers to why, most likely. Someone who does something like this might be affected by a game, but then again they were sick to begin with. So what they are really saying is, we should ban everything that the minority of people might be affected by. well gosh, im alergic to pollen.. lets burn that shit!
actually media in my neighbour country germany repeats :
he only had black fashion, he played with soft air guns and he had CS installed on his computer
but independend media reportet that he was pretty much into army stuff (guns bombs etc etc) he even made fake execution videos and army training videos, he also had complete army outfits and all his friends and his parents thought thats strange but okay(!) and imo those are to blame ..
ah and he rebuild parts of a cs map in his cellars to replay cs scenes with his friends …sicko
its easy to pass judgement, he was doing what he liked, had he been accepted for it maby he could have become a productive member of society making exspending munitions on civilians in some other nation.

Instead of playing CS he could have been going out & killing animals if he had some real interest in death. Or perhaps slowly becoming involve in killing other people like the idea of how criminals in gangs are formed. For all these idiots can understand, CS could have SAVED lives by making him go out with a big bang rather than slowly become involved in such a thing and perhaps becoming good at it. And gec is right, it’s more based on the human as a whole not on a single action like playing a video game.
And blaming video games is the bs if ya haven’t caught on. If he went out in army gear such as that pictures then he could have watched “Saving Private Ryan” earlier that day and cried and decided to just go nuts at a school cause human life was worthless. Or someone seen him cry at the school and was going to tell everyone and he had to go stop him. Either way it’s just as logical to use that excuse for it as it is video games.
Anyhow, if any of you reading this go nuts like this kid, do us all a favor and take out those idiots who blame video games and ban them, not some kids at school who haven’t learned how to be decent humans just yet. The kids at least have a chance to become decent humans, those rejects in the governments of the world missed their chance(s).

i didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when i heard of the proposition to ban violent video games AGAIN. this is so sad. in what stupid black-and-white world do our state representatives live, in which a video game can be the sole reason for a person to commit violent acts and murder?? this is so paranoid. think about it, they must die of fear every evening when they put on the tv… this is a severe case of stupidity and should be treated in a closed asylum, not the bundestag.

and about childs growing with violence, I totally agree that if they are exposed to innecessary violence, they become insensibles to violence, and then any outrageous act of violence would be a normal thing, and that’s awful.
But if they stop playing violent games (and some are too gore for childs let’s face it), they will still be exposed to innecessary violence, in TV, Movies, the NEWS.
So, the solution is not in banning, is on re-educating people. If there weren’t so many blood-thristy people, companies wouldn’t produce violent games. All in all is a consumer-producer effect, if there is no demand, there is no product. It’s that simple.
People don’t go on killing sprees and commit suicide because of video games. They do it because they are messed up in the head.
If anything the video games provide an outlet for violent tendencies. Without video games he probobly would have done all this much sooner.
The only way to prevent this kind of thing from happening is to ban guns. Sure, people can still go crazy and kill eachother just fine without guns, there are plenty of other killing tools available. But without the guns he wouldn’t have injured nearly as many people before he was stopped.

Well people cant just blame violence games about the stupid kids actions. Millions of people arround the world play violence games and just because they play they dont just start killing, lets say that this kid was mentaly disturbed and he needed treatment, now think and dont blame games.
I plan to go out and re-enact PES6 in my local park, because the game made me do it!!
