Video games industry with mixed results in October
Revenue for the video-game industry in October, the first month of the critical fourth quarter that includes the holiday shopping season, grew by 18%, despite a significant decline in sales of portable players, a market research firm said. Sales increased to $2.2 billion for the month, keeping the industry on track to top $22 billion for the year, the NPD Group said. The 18% rise over October 2007, however, was less than the year-to-year increase of 26% in September. Despite the October growth, NPD said sales were “mixed” in the month.
“The console portion of the market made significant gains at 26% across hardware, software, and accessories, while the portable side of the market stalled, declining 14%,” NPD analyst Anita Frazier said in a statement released late Thursday. “Year-to-date the portable segment of the market is still up 7%.” On the hardware side, the greater supply of Nintendo Wii paid off with the console recording its best sales month since last November and December. Price reductions on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 resulted in a 7% increase in unit sales over September.

LOWER THE PRICES ON CONSOLES AND GAMES BY 50% AND MAYBE THERE WILL BE LESS PIRACY AND MORE SALES.

Well except for the fact that most games come out first on consoles then PCs now a days and if you want to play online with em you gotta buy em.
now..i paid 199$ for my xbox360, flashed it for 20$, and haven’t had to pay a cent for any games…so hows that for value…and all the downloaded games work online as long as they are already out.
so o’ pc faithful, maybe youre jealous.

I owned an XBOX 360 up until a month ago witch was chipped with ixtreme and was also downloading my games free, BUT i sold it because i prefer pc’s.
The difference between my pc and ur xbox 360? My pc will outlast and outperform your xbox 360. THAT is why i prefer my PC. plus PC graphics are WAY better.
But thats just my 2 cents, everyone has there preference and PC is mine.
No offense in anyway.
the experience playing a game with buddies or alone over xbox live sitting on the couch is way better than sitting in front of a monitor like an idiot!

I’ve been a dedicated pc gamer for roughly eleven years, and as far as pc gaming is concerned since the birth of broadband and consoles it’s now became catch 22 for pc gamers & developers.
Pc gamers tend to download games rather than buy crappy ported games & developers don’t want to dedicate much time porting these games.
Are we shooting ourselves in the foot?
Or are we really just getting the most out of the inevitable?
Also, the time space between console releases is quiet a few years inbetween. My current comp will Embarrass any console. Given another year I can upgrade again, but you button mashers still have the same hardware.

yeah, except I can play on my couch with a cordless logitech for sports games, cordless k+m for fps games, on a 52″ LCD in 16xQSAA in true 1080p. Have fun with your jaggies in xbox and have fun paying for xbox live.
does anyone know where or how to make a PS 3 play pirated disc’s…every where i checked nobody had hacked the PS3 hardware……plus wen will they crack it…no PS3 games… my poor friend bought one is sad that buyin 10 games wud cost him exactly as much as the console………

Time to cash in the crappy PS3 and build yaself a beast of a PC coz there aint no way to chip or play back up games on your PS3. How long has PS3 been out for? and theres still no chip LMAO!!!

The PS3 is not hacked because the hardware is too complex. It’s not as simple as soldering a chip. Cell processors are not so straight forward. The PS3 is an excellent showcase of ingenuity. It’s got some great games that will never be on a PC or a 360. Each platform holds their own. Anyone that says otherwise is a dumb ass.
remember that video games developed in pc not in console and pc development is behind video games progress
Fact 1. PC Graphics is far superior to anything console.
Fact 2. Console games do not need cracks or installing (you still have to burn the damn thing though)
Fact 3. Damn recession everywhere, of course sales are down.
