I agree with 31. Just because a band has dudes full of beards and has a southern draw in their voice, does not make them red necks. That's stereotyping. If you actually looked up Valient Thorr, you would have realized that these dudes have always had beards.

And 16, these guys aren't on MTV and never will be. If you actually took time to listen to their music, they aren't by any means, trendy... or "hipster" (who uses that anymore?)... or scene. If you want all that, go look My Chemical Romance. And next time you wanna call a band trendy, don't bring up Manowar... a band who clearly followed almost every trend of metal during the 80s.

This band kills. So much energy and a lot of talent. These guys only get better with every release and put so much energy into their live show. Valient Thorr are some of the greatest guys I know.

Gwar and Thorr are two completely different genres. I dont know why, or care that gwar was brought into this disscusion, but comparing them or saying one is better than the other is rediculous. Dont judge a band like this unless you've seen em live and hung out with them back stage. They arent a bunch of rednecks and their music is not overplayed stuff. So 12, 13, and 16 dont know what they are talking about.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Paul_Gaster

Gaster on file sharing

"As a musician, I think it is irrelevant to me. It exists and it is out there and no matter what I try and do about it, it will always be there. I don't mind kids trading tapes, that's totally cool. Videos are cool too. They only add to the live show. A kid might show that to some of their friends and they might think that we are cool and might come out and see us next time.

The reality is that an artist has to have a record go gold, before they are even going to see a dime. Bands put out 3 or 4 records on a label and never see a dime from record sales. So, it is not like people who are downloading would be putting a dollar in my pocket if they would have bought the record. The industry is set up so that the record company will immediately get paid from record sales. So...download all you want!!!

I think that the internet has changed the record industry and will continue to do so. The record labels will find some way to make money. I think that the artists main concern is to concentrate on their live performance and be the best artist that they can".[5]

Some upcoming releases that someone at rlslog should cover:

Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer
Silver Jews - Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea
Sigur Ros - Meo suo i eyrum vio spilum endalaust
The Melvins - Nude With Boots
Patti Smith - The Coral Sea
The Hold Steady - Stay Positive

Releases this week that deserved attention:

Jakob Dylan - Seeing Things
Martha Wainwright - I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings, Too (incredible stuff here!)
My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges

Something that should not have be overlooked, but was:

Mudhoney - The Lucky Ones*
*twenty years on Sub Pop Records, and still dishing it out

I know, it's easy to be a critic from my pov, but I don't mean any disrespect at all. Just hope you can drum up some more music posts in the coming weeks. Keep on keeping on.

@John

What do you prefer? I release rock/metal and anything I'm into. Unfortunately I categorize the rest as 'boring'. It's my preference in my taste of music.

If you have anything coming up that you want released, by all means ask for it. I just post what I'm familiar with or what I like :D

What's with all the heavy rock and metal music posts on RLSLOG???

There's so much creative and innovative music released these days yet most of what gets logged here are bands that are simply reworking a tired old formula.
