Valient Thorr – Immortalizer (2008)
I wish I was home at my PC when the Offspring release came out, I’ve been looking forward to that one for ages. Thanks Chinballs for that post!
Right from the BUTT, release group that is, we have a new album from Rock-ish, Grungy, kind-of ‘old-skool’ sounding Valient Thorr. These guys released their first album as a 1000 print release for those who attended their show. They have a cult fan following and have some pretty wild stage antics. I have never heard of these guys before this album, but I like their heavy, thick sounding tunes. This is the band’s 4th album release, and the third under the Volcom label. The band is a bunch of self-proclaimed boarders and rockers. Check out their myspace page (link at bottom) to see more. They have a hint of punk in them and they can be compared to older rock/heavy metal. It’s a bit of everything honestly! I’d recommend this to anyone who likes Metallica, Crüe, Maiden, Older NIN works maybe, etc… Enjoy!
The group has based their band backstory on a conspiracy theory and changed part to fit in with the band, which consists of the band landing their spaceship in North Carolina in 1957. Also, according to this story, they are from Burlatia, which is located inside the planet Venus near the three ice rivers. Check out their page (links below) for more info on this band. Kind of interesting, something outside of the normal Hollywood rockers. Finally .. Check out Wikipedia for more info on the band & their ‘backstory’.

if those beasts came running at me, I wouldnt be scared, but put my truck in reverse and floor it.
Probably good music, but the guy in the middle looks like a disgruntled elf from Santa’s workshop with his flunkie sidekicks ready to cause havoc!!!!!!!!!!1
excellent band, sound like the rockier moments of Clutch.brilliance.

Saw these guys in concert last year. Awesome show, two more groups of the same relative genre are Fu Manchu, and CLUTCH [both are outstanding LIVE!]
@13 hell yeah. Poseurs. You dont release wanna-be brutality on Volcom. Check for ManoWar..check for Celtic Frost for gods sake….maybe some Terrorizer?
This is fake, bandwagon, MTV-I-am-so-hip-look-at-me-I-have-a-beard-and-ride-a-skateboard-hipster-scenester-…..JUNK. They might as well have Pokemon hair and tight pants.

What’s with all the heavy rock and metal music posts on RLSLOG???
There’s so much creative and innovative music released these days yet most of what gets logged here are bands that are simply reworking a tired old formula.
@16 misled
manowar ?!?!?! lol lol lol lol lol kidie…
@John
What do you prefer? I release rock/metal and anything I’m into. Unfortunately I categorize the rest as ‘boring’. It’s my preference in my taste of music.
If you have anything coming up that you want released, by all means ask for it. I just post what I’m familiar with or what I like
Just listening to it right now… Its not bad at all!
Some upcoming releases that someone at rlslog should cover:
Wolf Parade – At Mount Zoomer
Silver Jews – Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea
Sigur Ros – Meo suo i eyrum vio spilum endalaust
The Melvins – Nude With Boots
Patti Smith – The Coral Sea
The Hold Steady – Stay Positive
Releases this week that deserved attention:
Jakob Dylan – Seeing Things
Martha Wainwright – I Know You’re Married But I’ve Got Feelings, Too (incredible stuff here!)
My Morning Jacket – Evil Urges
Something that should not have be overlooked, but was:
Mudhoney – The Lucky Ones*
*twenty years on Sub Pop Records, and still dishing it out
I know, it’s easy to be a critic from my pov, but I don’t mean any disrespect at all. Just hope you can drum up some more music posts in the coming weeks. Keep on keeping on.
Is anyone else with me when I say their logo greatly resembles Van Halen?
Sweet, they are due back in town this summer. DL this, but check them out live, ..all of the L4m3r questions will be revealed in one simple answer.. they rock.
this sort of shyte ruins rlslog aghhhh
@26 and I have a mushroom stamp reserved just for you. duhmass.
@ rlslog…keep up the good work.

“As a musician, I think it is irrelevant to me. It exists and it is out there and no matter what I try and do about it, it will always be there. I don’t mind kids trading tapes, that’s totally cool. Videos are cool too. They only add to the live show. A kid might show that to some of their friends and they might think that we are cool and might come out and see us next time.
The reality is that an artist has to have a record go gold, before they are even going to see a dime. Bands put out 3 or 4 records on a label and never see a dime from record sales. So, it is not like people who are downloading would be putting a dollar in my pocket if they would have bought the record. The industry is set up so that the record company will immediately get paid from record sales. So…download all you want!!!
I think that the internet has changed the record industry and will continue to do so. The record labels will find some way to make money. I think that the artists main concern is to concentrate on their live performance and be the best artist that they can”.[5]

Not a bad review,
Valient Thorr are sheer sonic fury Rock&Roll.
Best Live Band you will ever see. Honestly.
Amazing band. Definitely gonna be in line
come tuesday when this one drops!!!
Gwar and Thorr are two completely different genres. I dont know why, or care that gwar was brought into this disscusion, but comparing them or saying one is better than the other is rediculous. Dont judge a band like this unless you’ve seen em live and hung out with them back stage. They arent a bunch of rednecks and their music is not overplayed stuff. So 12, 13, and 16 dont know what they are talking about.
I agree with 31. Just because a band has dudes full of beards and has a southern draw in their voice, does not make them red necks. That’s stereotyping. If you actually looked up Valient Thorr, you would have realized that these dudes have always had beards.
And 16, these guys aren’t on MTV and never will be. If you actually took time to listen to their music, they aren’t by any means, trendy… or “hipster” (who uses that anymore?)… or scene. If you want all that, go look My Chemical Romance. And next time you wanna call a band trendy, don’t bring up Manowar… a band who clearly followed almost every trend of metal during the 80s.
This band kills. So much energy and a lot of talent. These guys only get better with every release and put so much energy into their live show. Valient Thorr are some of the greatest guys I know.
