VA-The Watchmen (OST) 2009-MTD

I actually plan to go to theater watching the premiere of “Watchmen” this Friday night and I’m going to choose the IMAX version. Hopefully it would not disappoint me. And here is OST release brought to you by MTD in advance. Enjoy!

Watchmen’s Music From The Motion Picture is as wildly adventurous as the film-from Modern Rock hero My Chemical Romance covering Bob Dylan’s ‘Desolation Row’ and 1960s classics from Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin to unforgettable gems from Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. Watchmen may be the first soundtrack ever to include both Leonard Cohen and KC & The Sunshine Band.

    ;) – - – - – - – - – - – Warning! Spoilers: Don’t read

The Comedian was not as special as I expected it to be, the actor failed miserably to hide his young age while playing the role of the Old Comedian. The brutal rape scene which was a pivotal part, was a joke, almost like the PG version rape scenes in a ballywood movie. The Rorschach relied too much on actions, so I was not able to feel the same connection with that character as I had felt with the literary version. Rorschach was mainly about a rebellious stand; His ideology. Attitudes of a very special mind. And Doc Manhattan was almost like Barney the Dino. Too much reliance on VFX and digital trickery has killed the "coldness" and inner conflict of his character, making it a plastic toy of some sorts. Only the new Night Owl looked somewhat OK to me.
However, some last minute editing may still be able to save the bums of the minutemen before they release the final theatrical version. I know will be very happy if that happens.

@5 No one (in reality) expected the theatrical cut to be a dark as the graphic novel. However, the 270 minute Blu-ray Extended Edition should be a nice surprise for the hardcore fans of the book.

Watchmen is in IMAX DMR format, not full frame IMAX like certain scenes in Dark Knight.

Im planning on going out and getting completely drunk on Friday and hopefully getting a kebab on the way home while accompanied by an equally drunk female companion before indulging in wild carefree sex.

i may see Watchmen later on in the week, Im not the type of person who HAS to go see a movie opening night. Its not THAT cool, Really it isnt.

Can't remember whether the version I saw was EC or DC, but it was neither rough cut nor theatrical.

And Ozymandius was a fail too. Same prob: the actor failed miserably to hide his young age while playing the role of the older version.

Watchmen is gonna fail for sure.

I have to agree with some of the other comments on here, its allready quite clear some of the actors look far to young to play the parts and that = fail some of the back story has been cut and the story of the black freighter looks to be missing from the movie alltogether = fail, why is it that hollywood can make a mess of just about anything they touch these days its no wonder alan more wants nothing to do with this movie.

    @14,

alan moore is an old lemon, he does not like anything these days. he is not a visual guy anyway, he hated V, he hated watchmen.

i mean, if you write somthing harsh and brutal, how do you expect that to be in a theatrical rls??

I'm sure no-one here cares about you or your definition of 'cool', i hope you catch a horrific sexually transmitted disease from the skank you pick up on Friday whilst i partake in some movie-going culture.

Why? because I broke your heart? I myself am not happy seeing it as it is :( . Go see it yourself & check with my comments again (hopefully if you are familiar with the artistic language of cinema and capable of identifying bad acting and direction from good one).

I hope they correct the mistakes they made after a decade or so by remaking it.

Only fools believe that a movie will be as great as the books they read… regardless of whether it's a graphic novel or regular novel, someone is always disappointed. Most fans agree that Lord Of the Rings was handled well… however a lot of fans were still vehemently dissapointed in the way many characters and situations were handled.

Just do what I do… go for the movie… not your "book on screen".

I know that a movie adaptation has to differ from the literary version is most cases for obvious reasons, otherwise I also would have ranted just like #14 saying "some of the back story has been cut and the story of the black freighter looks to be missing from the movie alltogether" but I didn't. I wanted to see this movie as a movie only and independent from the literary version. But is it too much to ask for good acting in a supposedly good movie? Where will I look for the acting then? In the graphic novel?

I just watched the movie and i think it was really great! The feeling, costumes, atmosphere, acting, story…. exactly like the comic. Ok, i agree, the actor choice of Ozymandias wasnt that good, but he made the most of it. And especially Rorschach was fantastic! The story was perfectly cut to the point, "the black freightener" isnt important, if you wanna see it, watch the extras on the dvd. And i loved the new ending! I myself think its much better than the original! Way more fitting in the story. The only thing i missed was the last important question of Veidt, the last picture of the comic. That would have fitted great in the credits.

In conclusion, i can really recommend it! I dont know how understandible it was for the ones, who dont know the comic, but real fans will love it!

@26 The last page of the novel (part 12) ends with 2 ppl talking in the publication office and there was NO panel with Veidt in the last 3 pages. The final panel is a lame John Cale quotation.

@Johnny666 – The Black Freighter story line has been re-integrated into the Extended Edition cut (due July). Also due July is the Directors Cut which will have a limited theatrical release.

Personally, I think the movie has stayed true to the book as much as is possible. The actors are not that young, it's not like they're a bunch of Hollywood teen stars. Nite Owl passes for a 40 year old in my view; people, even men, an look younger than their years nowadays.

People have commented elsewhere that Rorschach's voice is not right, but it's just how I imagined it when I read the book. Kinda like just how I imagined Peter Parker's voice to be like that of Toby McGuire.

Dr Manhatten's voice is okay, but I imagined it would be slightly deeper in my mind, but it still worked for me.

I initially thought Ozymandias looked a bit young, but then when I looked back at the book, Ozymandias does look young. He may be older in age but to me he seems like someone who has maintained a youthful look because he has not fallen victim to the pressures of the world.

Many, many, many scenes are photographed as presented in the book, except now with motion. Some extra scenes are needed of course to translate to the big screen but they are also in keeping with the original style. Dave Gibbon's influence can be seen everywhere.

There's no doubt it will be a financial success. My local IMAX is sold out through to April, with the opening weekend having showing 24/7.

I ment the last scene with Ozy and Doc. Manhattan, when Ozy asks him if he did the right thing…

@30: First, its not a book, its a graohic novell. Second, if you make a movie of a story, either a book or a comic, you have to compare them. Theres no other way to indicate if the movie's good or not. Especially with such an important script as Watchmen.

@31: Ozy was well played, but the actor didnt fit to the charactor. Ozy is the smartest man on earth, representing the perfect human. Perfect in brain and body. Thats why he ist painted like a greek or roman hero. And the actor doesnt fullfill this characterstics. He is too young, too small, too lank. Thats why he seems to be bumptious and overweening… which he isnt, in the novell….

Lord of The Rings,The Sword of Truth(Legend of The Seeker),Superman,Spiderman,Constantine, etc are just a few novels and comics that have not been potrayed as they were written in their respective literature..stop comparing..hollywood will never make adaptations literally or verbatim..

@32 – I agree with you re how Ozymandias is depicted in the book – graphic novels are a sub class of books ;) – but I felt Snyder still made a good choice. Not sure if there's a more A-List actor that would be a better fit without taking over the movie.
