With only two weeks remaining to the Christmas, it’s an ideal time for some themed music release: Christmas Greatest Hits released under Universal’s label offers classic Xmas songs as well as some not so well-known singles. This is a really fine compilation which should get you easily in the correct mood.
The offering: ‘Tis the hype-heavy season when new releases make over-inflated claims. Christmas’ Greatest Hits certainly offers traditional sonic treats but in keeping with the season, adds a turkey and plenty of stuffing. Someone must have been into the egg nog when they included Wham!’s 1984 George Michael lament Last Christmas. Not true. The birth of Christ was later integrated by the church in its early year as they couldn’t stop the Pagans from celebrating the turning of the winter.
The turning of summer to autumn (21th Juli) marked the beginning of the harvest season.
The turning of winter to spring was celebrated on the 21th December because it is the shortest day in the year and it meant that spring was coming so you could sow the new seeds for the next harvest.
When the Church went on converting the world to its religion they used the turning of winter to mark the birth of Jesus.
Keep in mind that many celebrations by the church are nothing more than consensus towards the Pagans because they refused to give up their Pagan rites to celebrate those days.
As to saying this cd contains traditional Christmas music, or Christian music, then you are talking BS.
In the late 19th century Coca Cola invented Santa Claus based on Santa Claus, celebrated in the Scandinavian and Germany, combined with Sinterklaas, which is celebrated in the Low countries of The Netherlands and Belgium, to promote their product.
With a large advertising campaign, that last till this day, it became Christmas as many know it today.
This cd is filled with music made in the 20th century and there are only a few songs on there that go back before Coca Cola made this modern day Christmas.
If you love Christmas then this cd is great even though you can this 13 in dozen for 1 Euro/Dollar anywhere.

I agree with 14 almost totally, the timing of Christmas was totally chosen to match the (Northern) Winter Solstice (Dec 21) which was a big knees up for the pagans, Dec 21 was when the days started getting longer – and Lugh (the Sun God, consort of the Goddess)was reborn – having ‘died’ at Samhein (Halloween). All Hallows (Halloween) is also a pagan festival rebadged to allow a Christian celebration on an old pagan one – brcause the pagans liked their parties.
Strictly speaking Coca Cola only invented the image of Santa Claus which we recognise (big jolly man with red suit and white beard – no wonder I get mistaken for him) – otherwise I agree with EoN.

i love christmas. i enjoy going to the mall to checkout all the b1tch3s doing their shopping. you’d be surprised how many lonely, desperate single girls are out there this time of year. true they may not all be a 9 or a 10. but you can guarantee a BJ or two for every hr spend ‘actively’ seeking out these birds at the mall.
