Usher - Here I Stand (2008)

One of the biggest albums of the year, the new Usher, hit the scene today. It’s scheduled to hit store shelves next week, but because of GT4, it’s here today. In addition, MOD has provided the bonus track. The album has already produced 1 #1 single and will likely feature several more. So if this is your kind of music, make sure you grab it.

Here I Stand is R&B singer Usher’s fifth album, scheduled to be released May 27, 2008. The album leaked online on May 20, 2008. Usher originally hoped to release it in November 2007; it will finally see release on May 27th, 2008. The album’s cover shows a license plate 1126, the date of his son’s birth.Songs for the album have been recorded with Jermaine Dupri, Dre & Vidal, and Polow da Don. In an April appearance on MTV’s TRL, Usher stated that Beyoncé and Jay-Z will both appear on his album. Beyonce is featured in the album’s second single, “Love in This Club, Part II”, while Jay-Z will appear in “The Best Thing”.

Usher Raymond IV (born October 14, 1978), known simply by his first name Usher, is an American R&B and pop singer and actor who rose to fame in the mid-late 1990s. To date, he has sold approximately 30 million albums worldwide and has won five Grammy Awards. Usher is also a part owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers National Basketball Association franchise. He also has his own record label, US Records.

This is an extremely poor effort from Usher. He is pushing 30 now and for me he hasnt grown as an artist one bit. He has never been renowned for being a great vocalist, usually heavily relying on being an entertainer and also relying on recording manafactured tracks from hot producers. The problem here,is that the production/writing/vocal arrangements are mediocre at best.Myself as a fan since 94,I just cannot listen to his music any longer. I don’t get anything from this album. The guy has not grown vocally, artistically nor ultimately as a musician.

The test is,whilst his older fans have grown out of listening to his music, will the younger cats find Usher’s music more appealing than say that of Chris Brown? I find that unlikely and I would bet my left nut that Usher doesnt have another 1 single from this album.

    May 21st, 2008 | 03:08

@37 why post in here … PERIOD… just keep moving … i have respect for all genres… ppl that claim to be true music fans and only stick w/ one genre or just think everything else is garbage but what THEY ONLY listen to are ignorant…

  40. Casaubon
    May 21st, 2008 | 03:11

@39 First of all I’m voicing my opinion about the lack of diversity in musical genres available at rlslog. I, and anyone here, am entitled to do so.

Second, who said I only listen to one type of music?

  41. May 21st, 2008 | 03:17

@leon - Rap was the label the group gave to this. I know it’s more R&B, but I ended up deferring to them.

And can we please stop the racist comments?

I don’t know how you can say Usher hasn’t grown. Confessions was all about growing and becoming a man. That’s real talk right there. Now, this album is no confessions, and I see where you come from, but to say he hasn’t grown as an artist is ludicrous.
