Upside Down DVDRip XviD-REACTOR

Beware of the IMDb rating of 9.1/10 as there has only been 13 votes which could all very well be members related to the cast or crew. REACTOR is a group that flew under my radar, with 107 releases this is the first time I notice one. From what I can’t gather of the film, it is Macedonian in origin but with english? dialogue. This film may be something that film critiques like, as it delves into the creeping degradation of the individual and society life as a whole. So a sophisticated sounding film with no reviews on the internet to back it up.

Jan is the type of romantic malcontent who can’t find rest, who continually hurts people and gets hurt himself. This dark, raw and uncompromising Macedonian film presents a gloomy testimony of the degradation of the life of the individual and society as a whole.

    Agree with SilviaS14a.
Macedonia (Makedonia) is a tottaly GREEK name and it has nothing to do with the Slavian People living in the territory of FYROM (Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia).I don’t think Alexander the Great was speaking the slavian language. So get a life and find you true Identity do not try to steal the history of other Nations (Greece) and the language of other (Bulgaria).

I’m from Greece and i’ve been to FYROM many times. I like the people and i think they have a beautiful country. BUT there is not such a thing such as “Macedonian language” or a nation called “Macedonia”. The guy that wrote the post made a mistake and he should fix it. That’s all.

  30. Maddog
    January 1st, 2008 | 15:33

Wow, I never knew Greeks were such a bunch of insecure fools about the name of their province, Macedonia. Beware of countries who still celebrate victories or defeats from over 2000 years ago!!!
If we keep up this discussion, they’ll invade Macedonia (excuse me, FYROM) and ehtnic cleanse the problem. Maybe they’ll give a hand to their neighbors the Serbs and take care of Kosovo afterwards, thereby solving two problems at once.

Anyway, when we are finished with this infantile discussion about whether the country Macedonia is a threat to Greek egos, perhaps somebody can comment on the release or give a link to subtitles?

  31. Stereo Mike
    January 1st, 2008 | 15:54

You claim that your country’s name is Macedonia
although your ancestors had nothing to do with ancient Macedonians (who spoke the Greek Language and used to take part in the olympic games years before Alexander the great conquered all the cities of Greece and as you should know only Greeks took part on the olympic games and foreigners
    were not accepted)

You should also know that :
”Slavic people a branch of Indo-European peoples, living mainly in Europe, where they constitute roughly a third of the population. Since emerging from their original homeland (most commonly thought to be in Eastern Europe) in the early 6th century, they have inhabited most of eastern Central Europe, Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Many settled later in Northern Asia or emigrated to other parts of the world.”

”Slavic peoples are traditionally divided along linguistic lines into West Slavic (including Czechs, Poles and Slovaks), East Slavic (including Belarusians, Russians, and Ukrainians), and South Slavic; (Bulgarians, Croats, Macedonians, Montenegrins, Serbs, Slovenians and Bosniaks). For a more comprehensive list, see Ethno-cultural subdivisions.”

    from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavic_peoples

so you can see that there is no connection beetween the slavic and the Albanian people who live in modern Macedonia and the original ancinet Greeks that used to live there, you should study your history more carefully ,
even the name Macedonia is a Greek word, all modern Greeks can read the ancient script on the ruins of the ancient Macedonians that can be found all over the region of macedonian.

Yes it’s true that the geographical area you live is part of the ancinet Macedonia and thats the name of the region you live but this doesn’t mean tha you are not a slav or Albanian and you should be proud for this, but claiming to be Macedonian because you live in this area is like an American claiming to be an Iranian ecause he lives in Iran. And again we live in afree world youn can use any name you want for your country but stealing and manipulating history for your benefit is somrthing different…

I know that this country has suffered for many yers from civil wars of ethnic minorities and that the communist regime you had tried to find a way to keep the people united and used this ‘Macedonian comkmon ancestors” scheme to keep the country united but stealing another country’s history is not the rigth way to deal with an ethnic diversity problem.

You calim tha theis movie language is Macedonian when you know that is Slavic, people from many countries in the Balkans can understand the movie’s language (Serbs, the people who live in Montenegro) but you claim tha the movies language is macedonian,it’s like you are telling that a movie made in US has American language,a movie made in Australia Australian language and so on…when the movie’s language is English…

I don’t like flame topics, but it’s stupid to use names and words who are in still in question an not recognised by the united nations yet…So the post author should use the Un approved names of this country until things are sheteled.

”It was admitted to the United Nations in 1993 under the provisional reference of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), pending resolution of a naming dispute with Greece.[2] Many other international institutions and countries have recognised the country under the same reference, although a large number of countries recognise it as the Republic of Macedonia.” Wikipedia

The Slavic and Alabanian inhabitants of the North Macedonia region should be proud for their own histories, they don’t need to steal or use the history of others to feel great, because they are still great (or even greater) without believing and living in lies!

    (Sorry for the huge post)

In Greece people are proud for their rich and worldknown history and culture…Yes they celebrate and remember both their victories and defeats of the last 2000 years and more, because they have been making history for the last last 2000 year and more!
I feel sorry for other contries who don’t have such a rich history and i feel pity for those who wnat to make great things small because they can’t have them and envy them…

Even if there was a group even before Greeks there (we are talking for more tha 2500 years ago)which is very propable, they haven’t left any written scripts or ruins that can be found.
Historians agree that the history of a nation begins when its strats to write and uses writte language…
And i think that a 2500 and more years of presance its more than enough.

They lived in peace under Ottoman Empire.

    Ottoman rule

The consolidation of Ottoman rule was followed by two distinct trends of Greek migration. The first entailed Greek intellectuals, such as Johannes Vissarion, Georgius Plethon Gemistos and Marcos Mousouros, migrating to Western Europe and influencing the advent of the Renaissance (though the large scale migration of Greeks to the West, most notably Italian University cities, began far earlier, following the Crusader capture of Constantinople[1]). The second entailed Greeks leaving the plains of the Greek peninsula and resettling in the mountains, where the rugged landscape made it hard for the Ottomans to establish either military or administrative presence.[2]

    [edit] Administration
The Ottomans divided Greece into six sanjaks, each ruled by a Sanjakbey accountable to the Sultan, who established his capital in Constantinople in 1453. Before this division occurred, the Ottomans implemented the millet system, which segregated peoples within the Ottoman Empire based on religion. The conquered land was parcelled out to Ottoman nobles, who held it as feudal fiefs (timars and ziamets) directly under the Sultan’s authority. The land could not be sold or inherited, but was reverted to the Sultan’s possession when the fief-holder died.

    [edit] Economy
The economic situation of the majority of Greece deteriorated heavily during the Ottoman occupation of the country. Heavy burdens of taxation were placed on the Christian peasantry, and many Greeks were reduced to subsistence farming whereas during prior eras the region had been heavily urbanized. The exception to this rule was in Constantinople and the Ionian islands, where many Greeks lived in prosperity. Greeks heavily resented the declining economic situation in their country during the Turkish occupation.[3]

    [edit] Religion
The Sultan regarded the Ecumenical Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church as the leader of all Orthodox, Greeks or not, within the empire. The Patriarch was accountable to the Sultan for the good behavior of the Orthodox population, and in exchange he was given wide powers over the Orthodox communities, including ethnic Greeks. The Patriarch controlled the courts and the schools, as well as the Church, throughout the Greek communities of the empire. This made Orthodox priests, together with the local magnates, the effective rulers of Greek villages. Some Greek towns, such as Athens and Rhodes, retained municipal self-government, while others were put under Ottoman governors. Some areas, such as the Mani Peninsula in the Peloponnese, and parts of Crete (Sfakia) and Epirus, remained virtually independent. During the frequent Turkish-Venetian Wars, the Greeks sided both with the Venetians and Ottomans.[4] The Orthodox Church assisted in the preservation of the Greek heritage, and during the 19th century, adherence to the Greek Orthodox faith became increasingly a mark of Greek nationality.

As a rule, the Ottomans did not require the Greeks to become Muslims, although many did so in order to avert the economic hardships of Ottoman rule. Under the millet logic, a converted Greek, although retaining culture and language, was classified simple as “Muslim”. In the eyes of the Christians, however, they were deemed Turks. Some Greeks either became neo-martyrs, such as Saint Efraim the Neo-Martyr or Saint Demetrios the Neo-martyr while others became Crypto-Christians (Greek Muslims who were secret practitioners of the Greek Orthodox faith) in order to avoid heavy taxes and at the same time express their identity by maintaining their secret ties to the Greek Orthodox Church. Crypto-Christians ran the risk of being killed if they were caught practicing a non-Muslim religion once they converted to Islam.

It’s funny though how people who use a language that has nothing to do with ancient greek and are of slavic origin, claim the macedonian heritage. I don’t give a damn if these guys want their country to be named Macedonia, Athens, Cleopatra, Alexandria, New York or Liverpool. It’s just pathetic thinking that while Macedonians spoke the greek language (as all tombs have proven) and felt part of Greece as well, you deserve to use such a name. It’s not geography that is important in such issues, but the culture, the language, the history and the tradition. And regadless your preferences, Alexander The Great, Phillipos II and every other, had nothing to do with the slavic history.

First of all I would like to ask the admins to remove all those stuff about nationality because this is just not the place for it. Someone else can’t tell me who I am and where I come from. I won’t say more about all those Greek b*ttheads.
The admin that posted this should not, I repeat SHOULD NOT change the name Macedonia (Macedonian) in the post because the language there IS Macedonian and Greek people can’t understand it (hence it’s not greek lang.)

Other thing, for all those that might have interest in this movie…My personal advice for you is to download and give it a shot. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. This is not one of those typical American action movies, so if you want something different, see it for yourself.

Every time I see some post about Macedonia, Greek people answer with comments which we Macedonian find it very insulting. That just shows the insecurity of those people as well as the threat from Macedonia.

InFecTeD what language will you translate to make your english subs?
Slavian to English translation I believe is what you are going to do… LoooooL
Please study the world history about the area you live and the people that lived there and you will realize that Macedonia has always been a province of Greece with Greeks living there!
YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT to be called Macedonians but Slavians and only that.
If you cannot understand this please read the following two paragraphs from post #31:

I find it preposterous that some people take heed from a movie in order to launch an offensive against the cradle of civilization, Greece.

There is a PROVINCE called Macedonia an ancient Greek land now extended over three countries. There is NO country called Macedonia, only a product of a communist dictator named Tito who, in order to give substance to a mixture of slavik and albanian sector of his newly formed country invented on their behalf historic connections to the Greek province.

People from the United (my ass) States of Northern America, a country of ex convicts expelled from the UK only just over two centuries ago hardly are suitable or worthy to comment on historic issues. So are the subjects of a queen that still think they are part of an empire and still occupy part of a country and insist on calling it Ulster. IT IS CALLED IRELAND

Well…to all my friends from the friendly country of “North (Slavic) Macedonia”.
Am not Macedonian (as I know :) ). I am from south of Greece and I want to specify to all North neighbors and friends that…except of Philip the II and specially the Alexander the previous (and some years after the death of Alexander) history of Macedonia was….completly empty( of course there is always Aristotle…). The civilization that they (Macedonias) share all over the world was from the South Greece (Athens, Korinthos, Sparta, Thebes, Megara, and many others).
Also I believe that a Man who love Greece, study the Greek History and literature, and philosophy of how to live, he have the right to named Greek (not the modern Greek, I mean the Idea of the ancient Greek spirit of freedom and respect of mind and life) So it’s nothing right now about History or culture BUT it’s what are neighbors friends waiting for….after. Just ask them about the capitol of “Macedonia” and the answer will give you the “plans”…So, friends from the neighborhood…when here in South Greece made Parthenons, Democracy, Philosophy, Meds, Arts, and unfortunately Wars…you were on a tree with long tail eating bananas….Ahhh yes we f.ck to, as you said, also, but still the same time you was still on a tree eating bananas.
And believe me if you don’t step down from tree and discuses about the problems of your area…you just still staying on, and eating bananas (just look your friends from the west…they watching with side eyes because right now they watching directly Kosovo… but believe me the time will be sort).
    Still friendly. Aton (From south)
PS. My dream is The Balkans nations remove this hate from their mind (there is not hate in there heart) and be ONE.

    To all Vardarskans/Fyromanians.

There are several simple questions and undeniable facts and evidences out there, proving that Macedonians were Greeks.

    1) First king of Macedonia was King Karanos. A Doric Greek from the greek city of Argos in Pelloponese. He left the city at around 9th century bc and went north in order to estabslish a new kingdom.
    2) The language of Macedonians was a protohellenic doric greek dialect, close to the dialect that the Spartans used. All inscriptions and findings in the area of Macedonia were in greek while there is not a single evidence of the existence of a distinct Macedonian language
    3) Macedonians participated in the ancient olympic games where only HELLENES were allowed. The first that took part was king Alexander the I

    Paus. Phokis VIII, 2 & 4 [Loeb, W. Jones])
“Belistiche, a woman from the coast of Macedonia, won with the pair of foals … at the hundred and twenty-ninth Olympics.”

    4) Macedonians claimed to be direct descendants of Hercules (and dont try to doubt that Hercules was a greek)
5)95% of Macedonian names, including the word Macedonia are of greek origin. Phillipos = friend of horses (Filos/friend + hippos/horse, Alexander=the one that protects his men (Alex-protect+andras=man)
6)All ancient historians and geographers accept the greekness of Macedonians.

“The Aitolians, the Akarnanians, the Macedonians, men of the same language, are united or disunited by trivial causes that arise from time to time; with aliens, with barbarians, all Greeks wage and will wage eternal war; for they are enemies by the will of nature, which is eternal, and not from reasons that change from day to day.”
Titus Livius (from “The Foundation of the City”, Paragraph 31)

“Argos is the land of your fathers, and is entitled to as much consideration at your hands as are your own ancestors;”
    Isocrates (To Philip, paragraph 32)

Every seat in the theater was taken when Philip appeared wearing a white cloak and by his express orders his bodyguard held away from him and followed only at a distance, since he wanted to show publicly that he was protected by the goodwill of all the Hellenes, and had no need of a guard of spearmen.
    (Diodoros of Sicily 16.93.1)

    7) If Alexander the great had a language and culture of his own why he bothered spreading the greek language and culture to his vast empire?
“No king of the Hellenes had ever conquered Egypt with the exception only of Alexander, and that he did without war…”
    [2.4.5; Oration of Demosthenes]
    Plutarch. Moralia.

“Alexander lived many hundred years ago. He was king of Macedon, one of the states of Greece.
On the Fortune of Alexander, I, 328D, 329A [Loeb, F.C. Babbitt])

I could carry on with ancient quotations but thats enough to start a decent conversation with my dear Vardarskian neighbours. I’ll just end with a some words by their former Prime Minister, Kiro Gligorov :

We are Slavs who came to this area in the sixth century (AD)… we are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians.

and the late Gligorov was right: macedonians are slavs.
all other things pointed are irrelevant as they talk about facts that were true 2-3000 years ago.
ancient people that inhabited those parts were assimilated in the slav population and vanished over the course of history.
    period.

    @ cyc

“and the late Gligorov was right: macedonians are slavs.”

i hope you don’t imlply that ancient macedonians were slavs. do you?

“all other things pointed are irrelevant as they talk about facts that were true 2-3000 years ago.”

you know what we call history right? all those “irrelavant” things that talk about facts that happened 2-3000 years ago. yes, this is history. its written down by historians of that era, so… it is history. and guess what, it cant be distorted.

“ancient people that inhabited those parts were assimilated in the slav population and vanished over the course of history.
    period.”

any evidences, texts, quotations to rely your arguments on?
so greeks suddenly dissapeared from the face of the earth when the slavs came in the area in the 6th century A.D. i’d like to watch you explaining the continuity of greek culture and language through the course of history to modern days.

And one last question, where are you from my friend?

    @Bonandre

You claim that there is no ancient Macedonian language but a Greek dialect right?
What do you thinkg about this…

If the modern Greeks want to deny the ancient Macedonians their spoken language, then, they need to rewrite the history to suit their version.

[1] Quintus Curtius Rufus “The History of Alexander”

“Alexander the Great speaks in front of the Macedones of his army: “The Macedonians are going to judge your case,” he said. “Please state whether you will use your native language before them.”

Philotas: “Besides the Macedonians, there are many present who, I think, will find what I am going to say easier to understand if I use the language you yourself have been using, your purpose, I believe, being only to enable more people to understand you.”

Then the king said: “Do you see how offensive Philotas find even his native language? He alone feels an aversion to learning it. But let him speak as he pleases – only remember he as contemptuous of our way of life as he is of our language”. [p.138]

This is Alexander himself talking about “our way of life” and “our language” “Macedonians are going to judge your case” There is no need for any explanation.

[2] Eugene Borza. “The lesson is clear: the use of the Greek language as a form of written expression does not by itself identify the ethnicity of a culture”. (”In the Shadow of Olympus -The Emergence of Macedon”, p. 94.)

“As the Macedonians settled the region following the expulsion of existing peoples, they probably introduced their own customs and language(s); there is no evidence that they adapted any existing language, even though they were now in contact with neighboring populations who spoke a variety of Greek and non-Greek tongues.”

“Hammond’s firm conclusion that the Macedonian spoke a distinctive dialect of Aeolic Greek is unconvincing to me, resting as it does on an interpretation of a bit of myth quoted by Hellanicus, who made Aeolus the father of the legendary progenitor Macedon”. (”In the Shadow of Olympus” p.92.)

“The handful of surviving genuine Macedonian words – not loan words from a Greek – do not show the changes expected from a Greek dialect. And even had they changed at some point it is unlikely that they would have reverted to their original form”. (”In the Shadow of Olympus” p.93.)

“As a question of method: why would an area three hundred miles north of Athens – not colonized by Athens – used an Attic dialect, unless it were imported? That is, the Attic dialect could hardly be native, and its use is likely part of the process of Hellenization. To put the question differently: if the native language of the Macedonians is Greek, what is its Macedonian dialect?”

“On the matter of language, and despite attempts to make Macedonian a dialect of Greek, one must accept the conclusion of linguist R.A.Crossland in the recent CAH, that an insufficient amount of Macedonian has survived to know what language it was”.

[3] Earnst Badian “Stadies in the History of Art vol. 10: Macedonia and Greece In Late Classical and Early Hellenistic Times”

Regarding the Cleitus’ episode, Ernst Badian writes: “He used the only language in which his guards could be addressed”.. [Note: The guards could be addressed in Macedonian language.]

Episode #2. Eumenes of Cardia. In 321 B.C., Greek commander Ambiance, with cavalry and light arms only, faced the Macedonian noble, Neoptholemus, with the Macedonian phalanx. To avoid battle Xennias, a man whose speech was Macedonian, was sent by Eumenes to negotiate with the commander of the phalanx. Badian analyzes:

“Now, Xennias’ name at once shows him to be a Macedonian. Since he was in Ambiance entourage he was presumably a Macedonian of superior status, who spoke both standard Greek and his native language. He was the man who could be trusted to transmit Ambiance’ message. This clearly shows that the phalanx had to be addressed in Macedonian, if one wanted to be sure (as Ambiance certainly did) that they would understand. And almost equally interesting – he did not address them himself, as he and other commanders normally address soldiers who understood them, nor did he sent a Greek. The suggestion is surely that Macedonian was the language of the infantry and that Greek was a difficult, indeed a foreign language to them. We may thus take it as certain that, when Alexander used Macedonian in addressing his guards, that too was because it was their normal language, and because (like Ambiance) he had to be sure he would be understood”.

[4] Ulrich Wilcken in his book ‘Alexander the Great’ on p.22 notes that “linguistic science has at its disposal a very limited quantity of Macedonian words” [Wilken mentions Macedonian and not Greek words]

[5] “The Tumult and the Shouting: Two Interpretations of the Cleitus Episode”, (published by APA in The Ancient History Bulletin, Vol. 10, number 1, 1996) [I will not endeavor myself with "their" Hammond-Bosworth fight, for obvious reasons. What I will do, however, is lift certain references where these giants, specifically, deal/address the ancient Macedonian language in question.]

[6] p.20, line 23. “Alexander shouted out in Macedonian, and called the hypaspists in Macedonian”.

[7] p.25, line 4. “In my view”, writes Bosworth, ” there is nothing at all surprising in the use of Macedonian. Alexander was calling his hypaspists, who were Macedonians, and he addressed them in their native language/dialect. In Hammond’s view, however, the hypaspists would normally have been addressed in standard Greek. Macedonian proper he restricts to the people of the old kingdom, Lower Macedonian, while the tribes of the mountain districts of Pindus (Upper Macedonia) spoke a dialect of West Greek. The evidence for this hypothesis is decidedly tenuous.”

[8] p.25 elaboration: Bosworth cont. “I deliberately refrain from adopting any position on the linguistic status of ancient Macedonians. It has little significance outside the nationalistic propaganda of the contemporary Balkan states, in which prejudice and dogma do duty for rational thought. What matters for the present argument is the fact, explicit in Curtius, that Macedonian was largely unintelligible to non-Macedonians. Macedonians might understand Greek, and some Greek (like Eumenes) with experience of Macedon might speak Macedonian. However, even Eumenes took care that a vital message was conveyed to the phalangites of Neoptholemus by a man fluent in Macedonian.”

[9] p.30, line 28, we find the final statement by Bosworth: “He used Macedonian because the troops would instantly understand and (he expected) would react immediately. There is no need for more complicated explanation.”
