Underoath – Survive, Kaleidoscope (2008)

Here’s a new release from group FNT, this is the new live album from Underoath. Which is quite impressive, over 2 weeks before store date. I first discoverd this band on the Madden 07 soundtrack, their track was one of the few I could bear to listen to. The music they make is kind of a melodic metalcore (I hate that word, but thats what been adopted). Enjoy!

Underoath makes a triumphant, yet special return for all of their fans on Survive, Kaleidoscope. The release features not only a live CD, but also a full live set on a 16:9 widescreen DVD. The DVD features such hits as “They’re Only Chasing Safety”, “Define The Great Line”. The CD is 12 live tracks from select tour dates across the world!

Underoath is a Grammy-nominated Christian metalcore band from Tampa, Florida formed in 1998. They are currently signed to Solid State Records and are the label’s best selling band. After several line-up changes, Underoath’s only original member is drummer Aaron Gillespie. During the band’s early years, when they were fronted by former vocalist Dallas Taylor, Underoath displayed a more Deathcore sound, with double-bass drums and breakdowns. With Taylor, they released Act of Depression (1999), Cries of the Past (2000), and The Changing of Times (2002). Following his leave, Spencer Chamberlain became lead vocalist. The band then released They’re Only Chasing Safety (2004) and Define the Great Line (2006), gaining a certified gold rating and the highest-charting Christian album on The Billboard 200 since 1997, respectively. These two albums gave them more mainstream and commercial success.

Yeah, way too much metal and techno on here. But after putting up a non metal CD as terrible a Simple Plans a few months ago (yeah, I still haven’t forgotten or forgiven that crap), I don’t blame them for being scared.

underoath isn’t brainless, unless you consider christianity to be brainless. Thanx for the post.

Firstly, these hipsters need to stop borrowing their sisters pants…and those haircuts are so Euro-2002ish.

    @7…and that makes it better?

@23….yes I consider modern christianity to be particularly brainless.

Come on….bands like Stryper and Metal church rocked the hell outta (no pun) these guys…

    20. theres nothing brainless about this music. sure, theres more complex music. but to say that techno is less brainless is like trying to ride a bicycle without knees.

i wouldn’t say this is metal. this is really not death metal. however, the boundaries of every genre are very vague, especially in this type of music. something is metal, then metalcore, then it’s pop to the 80-90s hardcore moshers. it’s all relative, so why use these high levels of sub genre.

“this is bright (not light) goth doom metal.”

still, i like these guys, define the great line is one of the best albums i’ve heard (considering my OWN TASTE). I’m awaiting their next studio album (due later this year) with anticipation.

btw they win ALOT of american listeners by just adding that “christian” tag. not to say thats their purpose, but still.

    im not religeous at all,
    and i like this band.
the singer/screamers voice is one of the best out there.
and its easy to genre this style once youve tasted all the different styles out there.

and i hoped with the new music editors that rlslog would have a vast different array of music releases from a multitude of genres…….

    anyway
keep it up rlslog :) :)

out of all the good music in the world why do people choose this whiny dribble? I’m a musician and respect any other (except racist haters and the like) band for their musical talent- but these guys just seem to want to LOVE JESUS a but too much….wink wink

Whoever thinks that all that RLSLOG posts is metal, must be blind or dumb or both. The last two weeks has been nothing but a bunch of Lil Scrappy wannabe Oakland posers who think they can rap. I swear, take any 12 year old, put a chain around their neck, work the studio magic, and I guarantee they’ll come out sounding great… posers is all they are.

It’s about friggin time we get some hardcore metal… Melodic goth and hardcore is what it’s all about.

@38 I find it interesting that as soon as a Christian band who rocks (like Underoath and Demon Hunter… just to name a couple) puts together a CD, everyone jumps on the Christian hater bandwagon.

Funny, I never see people bashing Buddha or Mohammad like they do Christians…
