UK pirate site shut down
A little surprising news arrived from the United Kingdom: antipiracy organization shut down a fairly popular UK website linking to new episodes of TV shows. The first closure of a major UK-based pirate site was also accompanied by raids and an arrest, the anti-piracy group Federation Against Copyright Theft (Fact) said today. A 26-year-old man from Cheltenham was arrested on Thursday in connection with offences relating to the facilitation of copyright infringement on the internet, Fact said. Fact claims that tv-links.co.uk was providing links to illegal film content that had been camcorder recorded from cinemas and then uploaded to the internet. The site also provided links to TV shows that were being illegally distributed. Visitors to the site could get access to major feature films, sometimes within days of their initial cinema release. Recent links took users to illegal versions of the Disney/Pixar animation sensation Ratatouille as well as to most of this summer’s blockbusters.

“Sites such as TV Links contribute to and profit from copyright infringement by identifying, posting, organising, and indexing links to infringing content found on the internet that users can then view on demand by visiting these illegal sites,” said a spokesman for Fact. The group’s director general Kieron Sharp said TV Links was the first major target in a campaign to crackdown on web piracy. The disturbing aspect of this raid and site closure is that the guy behind the whole thing didn’t really offered any illegal content, but only linked to “proper” sites which offered the content. That’s basically the same thing we do here, at Releaselog…

muahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Guys, I look forward to raping your buttpipes in prison
/cry R.I.P
this is very bad news, it is only a matter of time before FACT, RIAA shut them all down. Obviously they can’t control the whole internet but any site making money from advertisements could certainly be getting a knock at the door.
sucks sucks sucks
lol owned!!
its a sad day on the internet…
We are coming for you rlslog……..
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
pfft, never heard of it… uknova’s the place for uk tv downloads, everyone knows that.
they do now….nice one.lol
Crap. Now all I got is easy tv
@JAiLBiRD
…I hope the guy is a 250lb Hell`s Angel who shiv`s you with a sharpened toothbrush, it`s guys like him that provide the links for guys like you to download stuff…
…without the admins, etc of TPB, Rlslog & Tvlinks type sites we`d all be reduced to BUYING the things we want…
…I hope the guy gets probation and sits at home laughing to himself about it….
HA HA!!
*Ahem*
Anyways, pray that that doesn’t happen to rlslog. That’d be catastropic. Screw you, Mister killer of piracy.
@ Matt Black
everyone buys the DVD’s.. downloading is not for stealing, its for backup purposes only. shhh
Ugh. I actually liked that site for obscure 80’s & 90’s cartoons.
yeah man, without releaselog we’d have to look at one of the other 15 million release sites out there. the ones that arent full of 1980s dvd rips and scrabble downloads. that’d be a shame.
he’ll get a fine and probation all uk jails are full so he’s nothing to worry about
@mano
..true, true… i buy a lot of the stuff i own but i also use downloading for preview purposes, for a few reasons..
1) i smoke so i dont want to sit in a place for hours where it`s banned AFTER i`ve paid a fortune to do so..(cinemas)
2) i want to watch/listen to the movie NOT some muppets talking on the phone and laughing
3) i`m involved in the movie/music industy and know exactly how much the real creative forces behind the productions get as oppsosed to the studios (hardly anything) whereas the studios, etc get the majority.
..theres a few more reasons but i suppose most know what they are…
whats the site’s link?
Is there any other sites like this one?
Tvlinks was great for cartoons Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers!!!
This sux. TV-links was one of my favorite sites.
@19
The addy was tv-links.co.uk
I really don’t think that matters now.
Damn, loved that site, made finding stuff so much easier.. :-p
http://www.tv-links.co.uk/
you break the law you deserve to be caught simple as.
Matt Black is a tarded lil tw@t huh?
No, Matt Black is 100% right. Capitalism makes piracy. Piracy makes us terrorists now. People going to jail because of some stupid tv shows… in the ages of VHS you could just record anything you want…
Duh piracy isnt terrorism, distribution is the problem here, but if a law were ever passed to classify hyperlinks as a method of distribution then BANG no more WWW …
so we’re safe
http://fatboymedia.com/movietv.html2nd best site ever rlslog first
http://fatboymedia.com/movietv.html sorry thats it
@25 the guy wasn’t hosting the files (so no crime), they obviously couldn’t bring down the sites that were hosting, so they got the next best thing….
http://www.66stage.com/ another 1 click right hand side links
Seems to me that 10% of the people here want to talk about the OP and have a serious discussion. The other 90% are opportunist leeches who don’t give a damn.
It’s those 90% who take down sites like these.
Martin, my advice to you my friend would be to immediately make this site Registration and 18+ only. Lose the kiddies, because when the knock at your door does come – and believe me it will – they are going to claim that rlslog was not only a pirate site but also distributing to minors, which will outrage public opinion and sentence you before you even get to court.
Just MHO – they can’t get for hosting or distributing hyperlinks, but they can get you judged by public opinion mate.
I don’t know what the law in the UK says, but here in sweden it would not be deemed illegal to link to downloadable content. Only actually hosting or downloading the files would be considered illegal by traitors such as Antipiratbyrån.
This whole thing is really spinning out of control. It won’t be long before Softwarepiracy is considered an act of Terrorism and then you can be sent to prison with no proof of guilt and with no lawyers to protect you.
Something needs to be done.
http://www.alloftv.net is another site like it. You can use that now tvlinks has got shut down
why in the uk if i own and can not back up myself i download or does this brake the fair use law as well 1 copy for a copy your own use if you are the ownly one with it
sorry cannot spell well
@ 36
Dont worry – they dont care about you doing that. Leeches are the symptom, not the cause.
What they want is to close the topsites. They’ll never do that, so then they want to close the trackers. They can’t do that, so then they want to close the tracker-pointers. It’s not legal for them to close tracker-pointers (like rlslog), but you know they can bend the law to discourage peeps from pointing them.
Fair use = No one ever got busted for downloading something they didn’t have to hack
dam i like using that site to i was on tv links everyday and it was the best link site to watch stuff online.
i will miss it
Real mistakes that guy made were using a .co.uk addy and serving ads
without those he wdnt have got busted
It is really getting nasty out there.
When the f**k will the RIAA stop this folish acts.
Whether they like it or not the internet will remain free land which can’t control.
I hope they don’t start raiding on RLSLog
I suggest you guys find a few decent private trackers. Faster speeds and quicker releases.
There is http://www.Araditracker.com... It is a private tracker which I believe still has free registration so give it a go.
If you hate uploading there are certain tools to fake your upload, but I don’t want to make it that easy for leachers and link you or give you a name if you don’t know…
This Guy Gets shut down for making a list of all sites that have videos that “other people” put on “other sites”. I guess the anti piracy people will have to arrest themselves as they have made the same lists! What next? People are slowley loosing thair freedom, it’s sad!
Dammit, I really liked that site… for anime and tv shows. No wonder I couldn’t access the site yesterday. Damn MPAA, damn you to HELL!
*ahem*
well i got other sources (but still…(sigh))
- I’ll be really pissed if this site is closed like that. Pray it’ll never happen.
Wait for your day in court and tell them your willing to stop when they shut down google.co.uk and any other search engine for it,s links to torrent site.
@NuZZ, you don’t need any f***ing tools to hack the upload ratio in private sites. There’s a simple trick that can be done with any of the popular BT client (uTorrent, Bitcomet, Azureus, etc.) out there. It’s as simple as editing a key setting in the client itself to bypass any tracker system (private or public).
However, I don’t recommend anyone doing this though, b/c remember “sharing is caring”. The BT world can only exist with this balance of sharing and leeching. (I hold the key to destroy this balance, but I will not use it – ‘cus I LOVE BT) So don’t try to email me, those who wants to know.
Im fine… Still, private trackers have their own little ecosystem where there are most often far more seeds than leachers… I don’t know, but making it more broadly public could screw things up (ratio haxing).
Does anyone know of any other sites like rlslog jst encase this one goes down!! I’d hate that to happen as i love this site!! Long live release log!!!
Does anyone know of any other sites like rlslog jst encase this one goes down?? I’d hate that to happen as i love this site!! Long live release log!!!
Why has the monopolies commision never look into the BBC for forcing you to buy a licence if you want a tv.
Why didn,t they sue sony pictures for false advertising, for selling me the Special Collector’s edition of spiderman 2 only to find an extra 8mins of it before the release of the third.
And why is there an antipiracy advertisement at the cinema “the way its ment to be seen, on a big screen” when they sell it to you on video after its cinema run to watch on a little screen.
NOO MOTHER CHUCKERS I LUVED THAT SITE NOT SAYING THAT I USE IT THOUGH!!!
no worry..I already send an email to RIAA website about RlSLOG…Lets pray boys that they come for RLSLOG soon…

Hello and welcome to 6 years ago.
Seriously is this the first time you have noticed that facilitating P2P links isn’t viewed any differently than hosting the content yourself ?

“It’s not legal for them to close tracker-pointers (like rlslog), but you know they can bend the law to discourage peeps from pointing them.”
That is complete BS.
However it does raise the question of what it would take to fill you in on what is and isn’t legal. Here in this story you are told someone has been arrested and charged with precisely what you suggest isn’t illegal.
Is that not some sort of hint for you ?
dammit!
i mean… i never used it..
back to streaming mst3k on winamp
What the MPAA really need is good leader, like McCarthy or Hitler to stir up public opinion.
They could accuse torrent site of hosting porn.
Arrest people for linking to torrent sites( except for those with more money like google).
Drag know sympathizer from there bed in the middle of the night.
And Gas a Couple of million
While standing in a que in my local supermarket, the old lady at the front was buying a music cd. Her friend behind me said to her that she was thinking of picking it up, “don’t do that she shouted back to her i’ll get my husband to make you a copy, theres only one good one on here anyway”. “Thank you” said her friend, “that will saved me and i can get a proper one when a ‘best of’ comes out”.

Why dont they have a go at sharing the rest of us think its a good idea.

Got to stop making comments theres an anti-terrorist squad knocking on my door.
@53
Teko, there is no law anywhere to prevent hyperlinking on a web page. If there was such a law, there would be no WWW and the MPAA would be looking at CERN like it was the 3rd Reich.
So kindly take your misinformed turd of a brain and put it back up your buttpipe.
Thanks
Right, they didn’t get this guy for hosting hyperlinks … they got him for attempting to make money out of hosting links which pointed at pirate releases. There’s a difference. If you host a link you can’t get arrested. If you host a link on a .co.uk or .com which is serving ads, then you can get arrested.
Get it?
Touchable…
@9 – UKNova Maybe a Good Site for downloading UK TV “Torrent”, but UKNova does not allow you to Stream & View the Movies & TV Programs without the need ro download it, like this site that got Busted.
People who post direct links on this or any other “Scene Release NFO” site (Like Rapid Share Links), will not do sites like this any favours, as this site is allowing People to post links to access & download the files, rather then stay focused on informing people about releases.
Take http://www.nforce.nl/ For example. They are doing exactly thw same as what tlslog or doing, which is offer news on scene related releases, they however dont post links to Torrent File downloads. Same goes for VCDQuality.com. You Dont see them posting Torrent File Links next to each release that comes out, and further more make it very clear on their forum of several rules to abide by. 2 of which are :
#2 DO NOT DISCUSS WHERE TO DOWNLOAD MOVIES OR SAMPLES
#6 NO SCENE-RELATED DISCUSSION/RUMORS (ESPECIALLY
REGARDING BUSTS)
Now, dont get me wrong
I aint bothered if there are links to torrents on here or not, and I’m not saying that RS Links and Torrent Links should be banned on this site, as it’s not me getting busted at the end of the day. But at the end of the day, these guys aint really gonna be making enough money off this site to pay off fines etc if they get caught. And what do they get in return? Perhaps Tons of Comments saying “Thank you Releaslog” Which then puts Releaselog Higher Up in the Google Search Ranking making it more easy for companies like the RIAA & FACT to concentrate on sites that are generating high traffic to a site which provides links to Rapid Share Accounts & Torrent files.
Shame really, as this site is quite cool & very informative. But would be a shame for it to get busted unneccessarily, especially when all it takes is A quick search on A site that is there to provide torrents or Torrent Search engines.
bout time tv-links got shut down, your just asking for troouble with a lame site like that
Well just stop posting torrent links and RS links. It cant take long for an idiot to search up a rls for themselves.
“Illegally cistributed” TV shows? Are these the same TV shows that are broadcast unencrypted over the air?
Isn’t that like suing someone for Xeroxing a free pamphlet?
(Yes, I know it’s illegal, I’m just making a point that it makes no sense)
ARGH! That should be “illegaly distributed”…
FACT will shut down google.uk next?
The more ppl they sue, the less i
care about the laws.
anyone tried ‘deezer’ for music? screw riaa.
Well, I for one hate watching TV shows and films from Regular bradcastings. It’s infected with comercials before, especially during, and after every program. It annoy me to hell and back. I need to pay for an insane amount channels just to get a hold of my selected 7 shows.
They also don’t send the shows when I am rdy to see them, Meaning I have to keep track and record every single one, or adjust my schedule to a Tv. That doesn’t work for me.
Support shows and buy Dvd-Seasons, but paying the whores broadcasting them with tons of comercials? NO!
I am curious … can I put a torrent in my @ass – and if so, will it feel good?
@66 – why would they sue google?… tvlinks SPECIALISE in giving out links to illicit material, you dont need to search its just there, google you have to type in what you want an it might find it
the laws are not in tune with democracy
It’s a sad day when the world can’t have free speech, free thought, and free life. Welcome to the world dominated by the Fascists. The MPAA and the RIAA are no better than the Nazis. One day, they will get their cummupence. It will happen, when, where? Idk, but eventually it will happen.
I’d say they’re a little better than Nazi’s. They just want money, it wasn’t money that Hitler and his Nazis were after.
If you recall, Hitler felt he was victorious in his genocidal and then took the easy way out.
I, perhaps, was misunderstood. They aren’t like the Nazi’s in the sense that they want to kill people, they are like the Nazi’s in the sense that they want total control. They want to be in total control of the world, they internet. They want more than money, they want power. They have no regard for freedom, they are the anti-freedom.
And that is what makes them Nazis.
LOL @ 68
LOL @ 57
Does this mean that there will be two more sites just like it by the end of the week?
Facilitation of copyright infringment…?!? that’s their argument ? Come on men..!! i can’t believe it… there’s no way linking is illegal, not a chance. that would make us all pirates. why don`t they shut down you tube or google. If that’s the case, I’m sure Google is the biggest “facilitator” of the world… ha ha ha but i’m taking all this in a real cool way, cause i found in sidereel the fountain that calms my thirst for tv series and movies..! LOL so that you can be calm too, here goes the link http://www.sidereel.com Oh, no..!! i just linked and facilitated piracy..!! who’s gonna protect me now..?? ha ha ha and there’s also stage 6 or Dailymotion, ups… I did it again…!
