UFO EXTRATERRESTRIALS-POSTMORTEM

I’m pretty tired so I’m going to keep this short, POSTMORTEM have released the ISO of UFO: Extraterrestrials. It is your pretty standard strategy game with standard graphics and standard gameplay. The only thing that look particularly interesting about this is the alien theme and that isn’t enough for me. I’m falling asleep so I’m not going to write anymore, goodnight!

The year is now 2025 and on the newly colonized planet Esperanza our space devices have not just been approached by alien machines but attacked. The player controls a squad of soldiers, light and heavy support combat vehicles, robots and air units located in a base on the planet Esperanza that had been colonized by the spaceship Magalhaes in the year 2023.

This squad was brought together by the Esperanza government to face a threat that comes from deep space. In case the player succeeds in averting an alien impact on Esperanza, the story will continue on the planet Earth which has been subdued by alien forces. The title Combines global strategy with small squad based tactical combat against an alien invasion. To repel the alien invasion the player must take full advantage of the terrain and his surrounding environments.

Features:

  • We have set our aim on the development of an advanced artificial intelligence for the alien units, that guarantees a real challenge for every great strategist.
  • Free Movement Standard makes a unit’s movements very real. For example, if your soldier can’t get inside a building due to aliens blocking all the entrances, do not worry. Go around the building and use a proper weapon, for instance a rocket launcher, to make an entrance of your own.
  • The third side in UFO:Extraterrestrials includes the police, army and civilians. The police keeps eye on everything that is happening in the cities, the army maintains it’s bases and civilians mind their own business, such as shopping, dating, harvesting crop in the country, mining in the mines, or just trying to save their lives…

System Requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows XP
  • Processor: Pentium 1.5 Ghz
  • RAM: 256 RAM

Hey you sleepy head! Don’t forget about all the background information that takes us to this game!!

Does X-COM or UFO: Enemy Unknown say something to you?

It’s true that this game isn’t a sequel of those from the past, but it sure is a… a… a… (I don’t have the words)… F*CKN GOOD THING to the lovers of those games!

    Thanks!!
Ps.: It’s a good job you do here! Keep on it!!! :-)

If you like these types of games I’d seriously recommend looking into Jagged Alliance 2. Completed it the other day & while it lasted it made me proud to play PC games & strangely enough relatively old ones.

Is this game like Fallout ?

Is there any modern PC game like Fallout ? Because that’s the best game ever made.

Been playing this for a few weeks now. It’s basically X-COM with updated graphics. It’s pretty decent if you don’t feel like playing X-COM again and again.

Product, you can try Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics(which isn’t an rpg, but it’s still Fallout). Fallout 3 is coming soon from Bethesda.

Well… I know tomorrow better how this plays out… I’m looking forward that mod which was mentioned too.

Meanwhile, this is for turn-based combat junkies:
Funny that Jagged Alliance 2 was mentioned… Great mofoing game. More so now. It’s source code was released after the company who made the game went out of business (ironic?). It’s been developed by fans ever since. With crapload of new weapons, features, bugfixes, improvements and some sector maps, JA2 v1.13 (as they now call it) brings modern turn-based combat, mercenary management and taking over a small country as close to realism as humanly possible. (Well… there’s always room for improvement). If you liked vanilla JA2, you will drool, laugh, jump up and down in excitement as you fight your way through Arulco in JA2 v1.13. Also check out a program called SVN Tortoise for frequent JA2 updates. Install your JA2, install v1.13 update and you’re good to go. I do recommend that SVN too, it’s optional however.

Additionally, JA2 project could probably use few more experienced and volunteering C++ coders last I heard. So check those forums for how to get involved if you’re a coder junkie.

Not to mention, JA2 v1.13 can be near-endlessly modified by editing a number of .ini and/or .xml files, both can be opened and edited with Notepad. So if you find something wrong or don’t like, you can change it. Just be careful if you decide to edit weapon damages as enemies use those same weapons too…

After playing a while Extraterrestrials, all I can say is: get that Bman’s Mod. It adds bunch of essential functions and enhancements such as hotkeys, quicksave/load and faster animations. Notable differences to X-Com - Ufo Defense:
    - Making money by manufacturing and selling stuff is no longer possible
    - Much less inventory management (for example, there are no storage facilities in bases)
    - Player gets to decide which stats to increase (soldiers) after combat as opposed to stats increase based on what you did during combat and how much.
    - Hiring personnel works automatically, I haven’t figured out if player can affect the rate new soldiers arrive to the base. Building workshops and labs always give flat 10 scientists/engineers. Also player can’t seem to build labs or workshops anywhere else but the Main Base (your initial base).

I say it’s about high time someone recreates the original X-Com Ufo Defense with better graphics and whatnot features. This crap should’ve not been published. On the bright side, like someone said, UFO Extraterrestrials is HIGHLY moddable, possibly making up for its shortcomings.
