Before you read this, this whole post is a spoiler of the game so don’t whine… Poland played a great game to Austria today, leading the game 1-0 up until the very end of the game when Austria got a penalty kick, and not much to say, except they got the point and tied the game :( It was almost our win but the referee, who I think has been bribed as he was handing out yellow cards to us left and right, called the foul towards the end of the game which I do agree with as it was obvious, but damn, we almost won…

Boruc made four crucial interventions to frustrate a vibrant Austria before Roger was in the right place to tap in on the half-hour and give Poland the lead. Austria were staring a second successive 1-0 defeat in the face but, three minutes into added time, Marcin Wasilewski pulled Sebastian Prödl’s shirt and substitute Vastic became the oldest player to score in a UEFA European Championship, finally beating Boruc from the spot. These teams now have one point apiece, two fewer than Germany who are Austria’s final opponents on Monday, when Group B winners Croatia are the opposition for Poland.

    One more thing. Marceli have you seen tha game? Haven’t you forgot your glasses? That wasn’t Wasilewski. It was Lewandowski who was responsible for the penalty…

    Yeah exactly, how much did Austria pay this ref so he would give poland an offside goal and not give them the deserved penalty… So clearly biased towards Austria not funny…
    Only because they are the hosts they get the special treatment.
    Not like Austria had 3 x 100% score chances in the first 30 minutes and the ref decided to use the bribe money from austria to give poland a goal. Logic? nice nice

    the ref also gave poland a very obvious offside goal, so no, i dont think the ref was paid by austria…

    also the first game austria vs croatia, croatia got a penalty against austria and won the game with this.

    the refs of this euro suck so far, but the games (except for france and romania) were awesome!!

    F*ck this ref and every ref in every sport… there’s corruption in every sport. Remember the ref who was caught fixing games in the NBA as well as betting on games he was residing as a ref. You can even see fixing in the NHL especially against my NY Rangers! During the payoffs, the ref didn’t call a penalty on a rangers breakaway when the rangers player got tripped tripped from behind. Of course everyone BUT the ref didn’t see it and no penalty called. The only fair sport I think of is baseball, they just get it wrong instead of not calling it. I watched the the polish newscast after the game and damn were the people pissed at the ref lol.

    why does everyone feel treated unfair all the time? since the post was clearly written by a poland supporter i want to tell you folks waht the austrian comentators said:

    “the referee did a very poor job and made a lot of decisions against austria… bla bla… didn’t give a penalty much earlier when ivanschitz was fouled and the first goal was offside…”

    i am from austria, but it pisses me off that everyone always blames the referee. ITS JUST A GAME!
    i love soccer but nationalist idiots that make their life depend on the results of sport events spoil it for me (doesn’t matter where they are from).

    The ref did well, was indeed a penalty, the letter of the law is that if you shirt pull someone to the ground it’s a foul, so ref called it correct. Ok so shirt pulling goes on lots during every match; but the ref had spotted the same player shirt pulling 1 min early’r during game and warned him about it, obviously he inored the ref’s warning and continued shirt pulling, and end result was he got caught ‘again’ inside the penalty box.

    Anyway… both teams totally crap and opening goal was offside (linesman didnt spot it, now THAT was a poor), no chance of either making the knockout stages before a ball had even been kicked. At least Croatia and Germany can actually play the beautiful game ;)

    Wasn’t a penalty, such pushing is common. If that was to be given every time there would be 10-20 penalties in every match! In the EPL this happens all the time and no penalties are given for a bit of barging here and there. A penalty should be clearcut, should be based on the denial of a goal scoring opportunity, not because some players do the usual shoving inside the box long before the ball gets there.

    Goal for Poland wasn’t offside. The keeper played Roger onside with the intervention. Of course you couls say that it wasn’t a shot but a cross, but it could go either way.

    Anyway Poland was ripped off against Germany with the first goal being offside but not given, then Poland having being onside yet having their effort disallowed.

    first goal by poland was the most clearly offside goal i’ve ever seen. this was more than 1 meter offside. bad luck the ref was blinded on both eyes.
    austria dominated the first half but got mentally tired as none of the many goal chances suceeded.
    good match in any case!

    I am from Poland and I have to agree that Poland sukcs very much again during this championship.

    The penelty was stupid (please don’t argue with that cos it’s obvious – soccer would have 20 of such penelties every match)

    Roger was not offside in my opinion – cos the other one was SHOOTING when he was – he got the ball when it bounced from the defender and goalie.

    – but the final score is fair considering how lucky we were in the first half.

    It’s a shame that Benhaker brought with him players that are out of shape, or tottally beginners not ready for the championship.

    We don’t have Błaszczykowski Zając, Brożek, Baszczyński…and many more…

    Instead we got Smolarek (not doing anything at all), Dudka (who can’t pass…and his is in the middle suppose to be making play…) no real attacker (only saganowski that was playing as a right midfileder with austria…) Golański and Jop and Bąk can’t defend, Krzynówek is tired…..it’s a catastrophy!

    Benhaker failed my trust….a cant understand his decisions, and why is he keeping repeating them…(dudka…..)?

    It, s a shame we show ourselves AGAIN from the bad side.

    We still have a chance thought…austria just have to win with germany 1:0 and Poland with Croatia 2:0 ;)

    I think it’s so funny when fans say “we” when talking about the team that they support. “We” ….hmmm, which position were you playing?
    There is a difference between a fan and a fanatic. And personally, I believe that soccer or “football” hasn’t become very popular in the U.S. is because of the hooliganism. I personally think that it is a very cool game. While I am not a huge fan, it is an interesting sport.

    Hi, iam from Poland. Thx for release and i think what was realy unfair. Maybe we shot the gol from offside, but anyone saw that. this ref realy wantet to see PL loose! Ok sry for my English, but iam still learning :)

    the ref did a misstake with the offside goal from poland so he decided to give the austrians a similar chance ..thats how football works

    penalty call was ok.
    austria should have won the game in the first 20 min. (2, near 100% chance to score) but they couldn’t manage to roll the damn ball over the line (untalented by nature).
    poland’s goal was a referee-mistake, the player who shot the goal was in offside.

    and the game: to all the polish people who said their team played well, please load it and watch it again!!
    ‘we’ (the austrian team) had 4-5 pretty good chances in a short period of time so don’t tell anyone ‘you’ played well, don’t do it!!!
    and yes, let’s kick german asses, they deserve it!!

    It was a funny game, the austria team had lots of chances in the first period but Artur Boruc is a skilled boy, defenced even with his balls ^^

    1 goal was refrees mistake, and the foul too.

    I`m polish but i live in Germany but I`m now wishing austria wins with germany :D
