Ubisoft released RELOADED’s crackfix for Rainbow Six
Ubisoft, the French video game developer and publisher, was recently caught with its pants down, releasing a pirated hack as an official fix. Ubisoft sells the PC version of its game Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (RSV2) in a boxed copy format and through the online store, Direct2Drive. When the publisher released a new patch for the RSV2 this month which added play modes and other goodies, customers were eager to update. Unfortunately the patch also added a check to confirm that a CD was in the PC before the game could play. This was obviously a problem for customers who downloaded the game through Direct2Drive and lacked physical media to validate.
Naturally, this theft prevention tool was meanwhile no problem for software pirates. A hacked executable removing the CD-check was soon readily available — although Ubisoft understandably forbade and punished discussion of the crack on its website forums when Direct2Drive customers came for help and advice. Complaints about the physical media snafu kept coming, so a zip file was eventually uploaded by an Ubisoft employee to the help/support site, named “R6Vegas2_fix.zip.” But then Fileforums.com user Twingo discovered Ubisoft’s little secret. The fix was, in fact, a cracked version of the .exe file modified by the pirate group ‘Reloaded.’
Users on Ubisoft’s official forums have provided proof, the “official” fix was Reloaded’s crack by running the executable through a hex editor. The file has since been removed from the website, so can’t verify the claims. The response from Ubisoft via a forum post by a “UK Community Manager” was obviously negative: “we doubt it has come from an external source [..] the matter is being thoroughly investigated by senior tech support managers.” Talk about getting owned…

Well altough modified by someone else, the file is their property so i dont see any broblems here legally.

this is a bit of an honor Reloaded though, they used their crack! I wonder if it was done just because the guy who uploaded it was an idiot or if they decided that Reloaded’s was a good stable crack that they couldnt do much better.

Dugg this earlier this week, quite shocking really, it proves that Companies shouldn’t be so pissed off with Piracy/Scene Groups, they can help the industry and quite possibly improve the industry, RELOADED have just proved that there crack can help, i hope to see what over cracks will work with games in the future.

i see nothing wrong in them using Reloadeds work, it is in sense freeware. But they should have left reloadeds name on it though, then it wouldve been more “legit”

i reinstalled this game again after a format with the new update i have a legit key for it but no dvd just reloaded dvd but i went to go online with it i logged in with my username and password then went to input my key but it took me right into the servers with key input? wtf so im assuming you might not need a key for this game anymore 2 play online not unless my username and password had stored the key god knows but theres not many people playing this game maybe they have ditched the cd key thing so they can get more peeps playing it hopefully this is useful to some people wanting 2 play online might no work but worth a try its a good game online

RLCSemperfi figured out how to run SADS in Vegas 1 and they then announced they were releasing a SADS (Stand Alone Dedicated Server) using his commandline.
Squadgames.com fixed their custom camo issue which would crash the server anytime someone connected using custom camo in 1.01.
They released Highstakes mode and it didn’t work until Squadgames fixed tht issue as well.
Maybe UBI should hire their community modders to do their work. ROFL

I patched to 1.03 and still use the nocd for 1.02, but the thing is : it works, but i still don’t get level updates. The max is still 20/20/20 (after patching i should be able to level to 99/99/99)

reloaded never cracked a R6V2 patch.
so basically ubisoft not only used a cracked exe to fix their cd-check problem but also downgraded the game exe of updated game to the retail version. that’s brilliant work by ubisoft’s support team.

IMHO rld and ubi work together - rld gets games from ubi, rls them, and then we can play only one lvl (assassin’s creed). rld gets credit, we get demo of the game, ubi is happy when no proper crack is rlsed until they release the game. some ppl say: not working, ima gonna buy the original. ubi gets more money. same with this fix - rld gave it to ubi, ubi rlses it, but someone forgets to wipe out rld out of the file. he gets fired. everyone is happy.

Come on, are we really all that surprised? This is Ubi we’re talking about here. Any fan of the Tom Clancy series of games will tell you that Ubi’s crappy support and high level of hypocrisy is nothing new.
I had a hearty lol over this one. Considering UBI’s already well tarnished reputation over their horrendous console ports, and waning popularity with the PC crowd, this must feel like a kick in the nuts after already being pummeled by review sites, and forum regs.
