U2 – Magnificent x264 2009-SRP

“Magnificent” is the second single from U2’s 2009 album, No Line on the Horizon. The track was originally titled “French Disco”, but was renamed later in the recording sessions.

“Magnificent” originated from the band’s improvised recording sessions with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois in Fez, Morocco in June 2007. The track was created out of a series of chord changes in the midst of a jam. The Edge noted that “The basic chord progression had a power that got everyone inspired. I think we all knew that it was inherently joyful, which is rare.” A group of Moroccan percussionists played along with the band, and the result quickly became a band favourite during the sessions.

Bono noted that the lyrics were influenced by both Cole Porter and Bach, and that the song is about “two lovers holding on to each other and trying to turn their life into worship.” Lanois described the song’s origins: “We wanted to have something euphoric and Bono came up with that little melody. And he loved that melody, and stuck with it. Almost like a fanfare. And then I was involved in the lyrical process on that, because we wanted to talk about sacrifice that one makes for one’s medium or one’s art. I thought it had for a setting New York in the 50s; looking out a small bedroom window. Maybe a Charlie Parker kind of figure.”

@13 Too true, just like Sting. stop playing and writing music and replace it with world sounds and weepy bullsh1t designed for the whale f*ckers of the land.

    "Magnificent
    Magnificent

    I was born
I was born to be with you
    In this space and time
After that and ever after I haven't had a clue
    Only to break rhyme
This foolishness can leave a heart black and blue

Only love, only love can leave such a mark
But only love, only love can heal such a scar"

Seriously, spare me; this isn't U2 it's a world music cash grab. The rest of this album is just as bad.

I think this is the one time that posting such a useless quality rip, overcompressed garbage for kiddies with earbuds and no ears, actually doesn't matter.

It just happens that Rolling Stone Magazine is the greatest music magazine in decades…and that's because they're filled with anti music douches…

They must be doing something right to break record ticket sellout times at nearly every venue they are scheduled to play at this year. Chicago Sold out in 45 minutes! To have 22 Grammy awards which is more than any other band. To still sell nearly half a million albums their first week, even in our current economy here in the US. All these magazines boasting that U2 is STILL the biggest band in the world and the most musically relevant. Just because some people are to dumb to comprehend their meaning doesn't mean there isn't one. And all you losers insulting people that like this band just because you don't, get a life people!

Their discography has been impressive til now, however, this album sucks monkey ass. Its awful, had it been released by anyone else it would have disappeared immediately.

I feel sorry for the fans clinging to this failure, you cant polish crap into gold, sorry. Sill relevant….I suppose so but 1st warning.

U2, only they have the power to bring so many people out of the woodwork to criticise them, i know of no other band that is more loved and hated at the same time, I think it shows just how amazing they truly are to have people feel so passionately about their music that they feel the need to post how they hated it on sites like this.

I hate lots of music, but i have never felt the need post about how i hate this and that. U2 has got under your skin, and that is power, they love people like you, you fuel their fire. If they were crap and irreverent as you say, then you wouldn't even care to talk about them or even waste a moments thought on U2. I can only conclude that you are small minded people that can not understand this bands mass appeal and are jealous that the music you are in to is considered lesser to the great audience, get over it.

Nicely said Aaron. And i do agree that this album is not as good as some of their others, but i know a lot of people that love it, including me. Ya, the magnificent video is quite awful. But I love the song moment of surrender, it is now one of my favorite songs. I also love the songs Breathe, Magnificent, No line on the Horizon, unknown caller, among a few others from their new album. I find myself listening to them daily. It all comes down to personal interest. They have been around so long that of course people are gonna hate them. But it is impossible to deny that people also still love u2. Larry Mullen, the drummer, claims that their next album, which is already finished, debuting next year, will be their final album anyhow. They are just trying to cap things off in a Magnificent way. I will always remember u2, they inspired me through the toughest times of my life.
