    My personal experience:
Kaspersky is good and I’ve heard only good things about Nod32 as well. For a firewall I use COMODO - its really good and absolutely free for personal & commercial use.

You don’t have to wait 20 minutes. Just turn off and on your router and that resets the thing on RS.com

everything is better than windows firewall, even no firewall at all. Windows firewall is like having sex with a used and torn condom …

    November 24th, 2007 | 01:11

Basically this is how windows firewall works.
It allows all incoming & outgoing traffic.
Unless you tell it to block it.
Then it tries to filter some. And fails. Miserably.

Ive tried numerous versions of this

Do you know whats common to them all ?

They all stop working after a couple of weeks, the serial gets blacklisted and then you are stuck.

Try if you want, I wont.

Whats with all these anti-virus programs on RSLOG, I’m getting sick of it, I like seeing new movies, and tv shows, not this crap. Stop downloading garbage and you won’t have a need for virus protection, or get a mac.

Used 2007 version 9 months; updated to this 2 months ago. Set it and forget it. Works fine. Have other machines using Nod32 and ZoneAlarm. This one works best for me. ZA & MCE 2005 do not play well together. Will try Eset & Comodo firewall; should speed up system.

“Windows firewall is like having sex with a used and torn condom…”

Can you rephrase that into something most of us will understand?

He meant that Windows firewall can be really easy bypass even using simple hack-tools… Personally I use Kaspersky Internet Security 7 and before I was using 6 and I don’t have problems with that. Once I entered page which wanted to hack me and install 3(!) trojans - and this was in one moment !! KIS7 detected all.
If u have not very high hardware specs try nod32 coz it’s uses less system resources (I don’t know how it look is eset smart security which is nod32 + integrated firewall).
For me KIS7 with default settings (except I added registry protection) uses at thiz moment 4,118KB (~4MB) + 11,500 (~12MB) so it’s totally 16MB’s. Mostly KIS uses so “much” system resources :)
The choise is yours but I really suggest u using some firewall.
Btw - ZoneAlarm is hated coz it’s also very easy to bypass by hackers and thiz iz why ppl stop liking it :)

I really don’t understand you people. Why are you all so mad about firewalls and antivirus software? What do you keep on those computers? I have one backup of XP and live cd handy and every now and then format C:\ - it takes no more than 5 minutes a month. Beside that use Opera for browsing and webmail and never had any problems! Beside that try to use free software if you can’t afford to buy it! There is plenty good options for every paid software!

    Cheers

sorry for this offtopic, but did you guys saw euronews today? in France some company proposed to their gov to create a law witch would make users to get a warning when trying to download something illegal, and when done they would get banned from the internet, they even talked about creating a blacklist of these users, also they would monitor the users by their ISPs…

i can’t find the news in euronews website though :\

The best firewall, if you are computer savvy is BlackICE….

It can be daunting to get configured properly though.

But as far as Intrusion prevention, it is THE BEST.

Everyone says Windows firewall is crap…

Let me step in a bit deeper:

Windows XP firewall is not blocking outgoing traffic, which means it’s slightly better than no firewall, but more of a false protection.

Windows Vista firewall is not as useless. If you use it in combination with Vista Firewall Control it’s actually pretty good! I have done several official leak tests and it has passed them all.

With that said: If you use XP’s firewall, get yourself a better one (Comodo is a great one).

If you use Vistas firewall, download the free version of Vista Firewall Control, and you got yourself some good protection.

You can get it here: http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/index.html

If you want to test your protection, here’s one good site: http://bcheck.scanit.be/bcheck/

A friend of mine had his house burned down recently after his pc went on fire. I was wondering if having a firewall would protect a computer going alight?

    @Pitu

That was extremely intelligent. I post my honest opinion and you call me a “douche” what are you 13? maybe 14? I have 23+ years as a pc service tech. I thought my input would be helpful. but apparently, the only people that visit this site are ignorant teenagers. Go learn some manners kiddy.

    November 24th, 2007 | 16:22

I noticed your other post was a great nugget of wisdom too. “Install them all at the same time” Thats gonna work great idiot. How bout, install them all ONE at a time and evaluate each one BY THESELVES. people dont install more than one firewall or antivirus. It is overkill and sucks up system resources and may cause conflicts.

    November 25th, 2007 | 21:34

Well, a little off topic, but McAfee is also good to have; tells you if a site is safe or not. doesn’t stop trojans or anything, but will keep you away from the site they’re on.

@44: I think no one is that stupid. I think we all got it: it was a joke.

Relax a bit, things will be better.

Then about Internet Security 2008, I hope it loads quickly, my laptop takes a lot more time to load after I installed Internet Security 2007.

I installed Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 but when I try to activate its ask about email address.
Anyone know what the email addres is?

  51. mit
    December 2nd, 2007 | 15:28

You write any email address man….They want to register that key. SO that key which you added from the keygen will be registered on your email id. No one else except given id and password can use that key after you register it…

    Bert,

Uninstall and re-install using a different key. Click on the generate button like a million times or something and then use that key. The first few has probably been used by others already.

You can just close out of the window that asks for the email address. It is only for activation of the professional features. The firewall a/v and other main features will work with just a serial It will also update *after* you close the window asking for your email. So to recap:

Install with a serial from the keygen and then close the window that asks for your email. It will work just fine.

    January 17th, 2008 | 20:26

    Instructions:
Download Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 Trial Version. Then use the keygen.
When activating, if serial does not work, use a new serial generated using the keygen by using the following steps:
    1. Exit Trend Micro.
    2. Go to Start Menu > Run and run regedit.exe
    3. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, go to SOFTWARE, TrendMicro, PC-cillin, and double-click the registry named ‘SerialNumber’.
    4. Create a new serial and paste it here.
    5. Start TrendMicro and try to activate again.
    6. Repeat if necessary.
