Transformers 720p HDDVD x264-SEPTiC

PEOPLE! Finally it’s there: the 720p SEPTiC release of Transformers! This is probably what you have all been waiting for so just leech this one, even if you don’t like it! :P No intro’s here, just leech and go.

A long time ago, far away on the planet of Cybertron, a war was being waged between the noble Autobots (led by the wise Optimus Prime) and the devious Decepticons (commanded by the dreaded Megatron) for control over the Allspark, a mystical talisman that would grant unlimited power to whoever possessed it. The Autobots managed to smuggle the Allspark off the planet, but Megatron blasted off in search of it. He eventually tracked it to the planet of Earth (circa 1850), but his reckless desire for power sent him right into the Arctic Ocean, and the sheer cold forced him into a paralyzed state. His body was later found by Captain Archibald Witwicky, and before going into a comatose state Megatron used the last of his energy to engrave a map, showing the location of the Allspark, into the Captain’s glasses, and send a transmission to Cybertron. He is then carted away by the Captain’s ship. A century later, Sam Witwicky, nicknamed Spike by his friends, buys his first car. To his shock, he discovers it to be Bumblebee, an Autobot in disguise who is to protect Spike, as he bears the Captain’s glasses and the map carved on them. But Bumblebee is not the only Transformer to have arrived on Earth – in the desert of Qatar, the Decepticons Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base, causing the Pentagon to send their special Sector Seven agents to capture all “specimens of this alien race,” and Spike and his girlfriend Mikaela find themselves in the middle of a grand battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, stretching from Hoover Dam all the way to Los Angeles. Meanwhile, within the depths of Hoover Dam, the cryogenically stored form of Megatron awakens…

Why would someone make, download or watch movie in resolution 1280x. Last time I checked human eyes dont have such resultions. To watch on big monitor, while sitting back 8 meters away? Right, move closer to the screen and use smaller one.
I’m guessing that a release for all those human-bugs with enhanced eyes. I see those often.

    Nice release !

    ___

Why the scene says “x264″ ?

    x264 is a software : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X264
    whereas H264 is a codec : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264

    I never understood that.

What the heck is bx talking about? Of course our eyes have a higher resolution than 720p! Or maybe you think that we walk around in a world of vcd resolution of 320*240?

Can someone plz explain me if i can play this on the ps3 and how?

  14. October 28th, 2007 | 11:42

    –EDIT–
    Proper reason:

Septic have overcropped the movie on the width by a few pixels
and stretched it using resize to fill 1280×528. This matters as
it distorts the aspect ratio (hurrah for fat heads) and is
    inefficient. Ours is good.

    ——
Basically nothing wrong with the SEPTiC release. Just dl this one ;)

alex@30: You are aware what an HD DVD is right?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD

This is a high quality rip of an hd dvd movie encoded in x264 via an mkv container file.
Would you really want that quality b!tch slapped down in quality to the size of a dvd?

Re-encode the damn thing yourself if you want.
Or hell go buy the damn thing.
I saw it at Wal*Mart for like 25$.

  37. KnowsEverything

  38. mondo
    October 28th, 2007 | 12:46

this might be a daft question, but can i watch this movie on my laptop(screen resolution of 1280×800)?
    and what codecs are needed?

  39. alex
    October 28th, 2007 | 12:50

hikaricore@36: yes I do know what an HD DVD is.
I was not complaining, it was just a question. But thank you for your really cool answer.

  40. dannybuoy
    October 28th, 2007 | 12:53

Yes you can – although 40″ LCD TV is nicer. ;)

Either install one of those dodgy codec packs if you want a quick and dirty solution, or preferably just install Haali Media Splitter (google for matroska splitter) and ffdshow tryouts. You can then go a step further and install CoreAVC (buy it or obtain illegaly), and disable ffdshow processing of H264. CoreAVC is more efficient, especially on dual core CPUs – most PCs will need this to play 1080p stuff.

  41. pihug12
    October 28th, 2007 | 12:59

Please, explain me why the scene says “x264″ ?

    x264 is a software : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X264
    whereas H264 is a codec : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264

  42. Hell_Ripper
    October 28th, 2007 | 13:00

hey guys can someone post the 1080p when it’s avaliable, i think for the diference of size is a lot better to have 1080p :S

  43. DSX

Thanks very much for info on eztv.

  44. foobar
    October 28th, 2007 | 13:17

Why the scene uses x264? I will answer this with a counter question:

Why does the scene use XViD and DiVX?

  45. zxq4b
    October 28th, 2007 | 13:40

@44: I think Mr 41 is wondering why “x264″ is in the release name, when the codec is called H.264, and x.264 is a random application

  46. mondo
    October 28th, 2007 | 13:48

    @40
    thanks for the info

  47. asd
    October 28th, 2007 | 13:57

    x264 sounds cooler, that’s why.

@the guy saying our eyes have a resolution of whatever:

humans=!computers; no such thing as a resolution for eyes, for the simple reason that our eyes aren’t made of pixels… :|

  48. Emm
    October 28th, 2007 | 14:00

@38, mondo, get Haali Media Splitter, CoreAVC 1.5 pro and AC3Filter or use PowerDVD’s 7 AC3 decoding filter if you have it installed.

  49. Eric
    October 28th, 2007 | 14:02

Because I know I will DL this one but not know how to put it onto a disc or even know if my computer can put it onto a disc, I’d rather buy the HD DVD for $25 because this movie is that good. Let me emphasize that again, it’s that good. (get the scrubs joke?)

Plus I don’t have an HDTV yet

  50. FMT
    October 28th, 2007 | 14:05

@25 mkvmerge will do the job (.srt is fine)

I also don’t understand why size is 6.5GB?
If the bit rate is not enough for 4.37GB (DVD-R)
    Make it 8GB (DVD-R DL or 2 DVD-R)

  51. pihug12
    October 28th, 2007 | 14:14

    @45
“I think Mr 41 is wondering why “x264″ is in the release name, when the codec is called H.264, and x.264 is a random application”

    Yeah, you understand my question.
So do you know the answer ?

  52. blunden
    October 28th, 2007 | 14:17

@bx: You are a little off there. ;)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_High_Definition_Video

    At 7680×4320 it’s closer.

  53. FMT
    October 28th, 2007 | 14:18

OK, I think I got it.
movie is 5800kbit/s, so beyond that is overkill.
    so 6.55 is 1.5 DVD-R.
I guess we need to cut it to ~4.37GB and ~2.18GB
    so 2 6.55GB movies will fit in 3 DVD-R.

    first DVD-R: Movie 1 part 1
    second DVD-R: Movie 1 part 2, Movie 2 part 2
    third DVD-R: Movie 2 part 1

    Not convenient though.

The HV version is on the newsgroups now. It has about 500kb more bitrate for the video and the DTS soundtrack and it takes up a full DVD-9 instead of this 6.55GB bullpoop. Sadly I was too impatient too just wait for the 8GB one. At this rate I shoulda just gone for the CtrlHD 26GB release!

i downloaded the sample. I also have Haali Media Splitter and codecs and playing it on vlc on my laptop (inspiron 9300). Can’t really see the difference between this and non-hd. If I connected laptop to hd-tv through vga cable would this make a difference? thanx

6.55GB? Seems a bit arbitrary. Is there a lower-quality version that would fit a single-layer dvd and still be an upgrade over the 1.4Gb dvdrip version?

  84. John Woo
    October 28th, 2007 | 16:46

I was comparing the sample of HV version to same shot(s) from the Septic version and although I wanted to be biased towards the HV version because I have an inner hatred of 6.55GB rips initial comparison seems to favor the Septic release. The septic release has a lil more ‘grain’ in the image which the HV version is mostly clear of. However, the HV version seems to show more compression artifacts even though it has a higher video bitrate. The color of the HV release seems a little deeper. I was actually suprised to find a noticeable difference between the two different encodes, but, there definitely is one. Which one is better though is probably a matter of personal preference. The more I look now though the better the Septic release is looking. I guess they know what they are doing after all…?

So is there actually anything wrong with either the Septic or HV releases?

Septic got nuked, then hV released a proper, but that was nuked because there was no need for a proper. So SEPTICS release was OK, but so was hV’s as well…

    :s :s :s

Both releases seem fine to me. Either one will be satisfying to 99.9% of people.

For those of you wondering why scene uses x264 in the name, here is what I think:
First of all, H.264 is not a codec. CoreAVC is a codec.
That said, I believe what they mean is to tell in the name what encoding solution they used… Like saying “I used XviD and my source is a DVDRip”, then you’ll see movie.dvdrip.xvid-group.
Same thing with x264 and HD releases: movie.resolution.source.encoder-group…

Is there anyway to watch this on on a 360 using windows XP SP2?

  95. pihug12
    October 28th, 2007 | 19:34

    @93:picky
Yes it could be an explanation.

So H264 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H264) is a standard for video compression and CoreAVC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CoreAVC) is a codec.

But it’s strange that every groups use x264 as encoder.

    @95

They all use x264 because it’s a scene rule. Just like they have to use Xvid for dvdrips.

So, essentially, the only difference between the SEPTiC release and the hV release is the audio? hV has DTS whereas SEPTic does not, correct? Want to know because I’m using an external decoder, and would definitely prefer DTS….
