The subs are there – there’s perhaps 10 min of non-English dialog, most of which transitions to English. Only the critical parts are translated and have subs… but they are there.

Please post subs for non-enlish parts (or at least normal english subs). The NFO says english subs are included, but they are missing in the mkv.

You don’t need vsfilter… if you have ffdshow and MPC it’s enough. Uninstall or disable it so that it doesn’t interfere.

The problem is CoreAVC… it’s not linking with Haali to display the subtitles. That’s why ffdshow Video Decoder is needed. It links with Haali, renders the subtitle to an image and overlays it onto the output image… indifferent whether it’s VMR9 or the Overlay mixer.

In MPC look in Options External filters and add ffdshow Video Decoder to the list. Now set it to prefer and double click it and you should get at the codec’s own settings window.

At ffdshow Video Decoder settings window you need to set at Codecs the Raw video format to all supported and H.264/AVC to disabled. Now look for the Subtitles check box by scrolling down a bit and activate it.

When you play an MKV and it has subtitles you need to access the Haali splitter either from the system tray (right click) or from the filters context menu in MPC and pick the preferred subtitle.

After that you need to reopen the MKV in MPC… it won’t work if you just stop and play it.

That’s all there is to it… and not that hard to do.

I still cant get it to work, I use vsfilter to subtitles and ffdshow to nothing, coreavc is my video filter and I also use haali media splitter.

I can play off animes that has softsub, but they then ask me first if I want it.

Perhaps I downloaded the wrong version? there is a 4.42 one and a 4.38 gb version

Mikkel, you need Haali media splitter for MKV, CoreAVC for video and ffdshow-tryouts for audio and subtitles.

To display MKV embedded subtitles in MPC you need to set in ffdshow video decoder* at Codecs Raw video all supported and check Subtitles Accept embedded subtitles.
* leave H.264/AVC disabled
